I don't know if it's a good or bad thing but I don't watch a lot of reviews from others On Tools. I prefer to buy myself and see what I think about them. Sponsored videos are not bad as long as the person gives their true opinion regardless. I have had some companies send me tools, but any video I put out is 100% my opinion. The only thing I have done different on a sponsored video is gave the company the option of me not doing a video if I didn't think it was a good product.

Before purchasing the 10" Bosch Glide, I did lots of video watching and reading forum posts. There were some claiming there's too much deflection and I thought there had to be something going on. Got mine, gave it a once over to verify the factory setup and its been excellent. What your video shows is, someone has to be either intentional with the deflection or just so ham fisted with technique that it creates deflection. Keep a smooth front to back arm movement and it'll be good.

Nice, very detailed review, one of the best I have seen. I checked both, I ended up buying the Bosch because the refinement was not even close - not for the price. I agree with the lack of a shadow line on the Bosch - I ended up making my own, which works fine - which pisses me off because the very same saws sold in Asia and Europe do come with the shadow line and a much better wood holder. Bosch international makes decisions that are just infuriating. I am going to be buying the cordless 18V Bosch version (Which comes with laser lines) and take it to Greece (Where I spend three months every summer) because in Europe they go for over $1200! Good review, keep it up.

I just got the Bosch recently and accuracy was my main reason for purchasing this. Prior to the Bosch I had the Metabo slider 10" and I wasn't overly impressed. After less than a year I noticed wearing on the slide bars and increased blade deflection at full width cuts. I looked at the Dewalt, Delta, and Ridgid before I bought the Bosch. Despite no shadow line I'm very happy I chose the Bosch. If I want to I can add a shadow line without sacrificing accuracy. It is however a bit on the heavy side but I use it primarily in my shop and only move the saw and stand a small amount depending on what I need to cut

The easiest would be just putting in a led like I did in the video I made for the Bauer. With that, you have to put in an AC to DC power adapter as those leds run on DC power. I want to add something like this so I can use a bulb with the power adapter built into the bulb. amzn.to/3NMefXU

I just bought the RIDGID 10” Sliding Miter Saw - R4241, for $219 at Home Depot during their Spring Black Friday sale. 49% off. At that price it was WAY worth it! Aside from the deflection, both saws are pretty damn close, so the LED cut line and butter smooth operation sealed it for me. I typically do not rush my cuts so I’m not very concerned about deflection impacting my accuracy.

Thanks for a great comparison video. However, I opted for the 10" Rigid which I got for a steal price of 219 from my local Home Depot. It was the last one they had in stock. I also love the shadow line which was one of the reasons I went with the Ridgid. I haven't noticed any issues with deflection. I don't yank of the handle when making a cut as I am not building fine furniture. A few thousands of an inch doesn't seem to make much difference to me in any case. In addition, Delta has stated that they have addressed the deflection issues that people mentioned with the newest batch of gen 2 saws.

Thanks for this comparison! Great review. I was lucky enough to have picked up the Bosch several months ago at Lowe's at half price ($325). Couldn't pass that up. Just a couple comments: 1) I believe there is a stiffness adjustment for the bevel in the back. 2) As another commented pointed out, the European Bosch version has a shadow line. I ended up following a video by Drew Fisher of Fisher's Shop (no relation) where he installs a simple shadow line. I took it another step and wired it with a switch to the saw's power and added the light switch into the saw's handle. A little work, but fun and it's sooooo much nicer now.

Great review, just what I needed. Ended up going with the ridgid because of the shadow light. With proper form and going slow on cuts, deflection can be minimized. Additionally, 90% of the cuts I make are not extended and in the fixed position from which there is considerably less deflection. Besides if precision is critical I’ll probably take it to the cross cut sled on my table saw. Price helped too, snagged the ridgid 12” for $399 at Home Depot

Bosch's lack of a shadow line was the deal breaker for me. I went with the Delta Cruzer. (It was on sale at Amazon for less than $400 at the time, which helped!) As for the accuracy question, I rationalize that both saws cut very accurately if you use proper technique. You can pull either saw off line, but it appears it's easier to pull the Ridgid (or Delta) to one side or the other. Besides, when I need maximum accuracy, I either lock the arms so the head of the saw just pivots up and down (which virtually eliminates deflection) or I use my table saw.
@ShopRamblings Жыл бұрын
I felt the same way. I caught the Bosch on sale and figured I could sell it and get my money back. After testing it, I realized how much easier the Ridgid was to get deflection. I have only had a couple of times last year when I found cuts out of square. I was not sure if it was deflection or if I didn't have the board against the fence. I was surprised at the difference between the two saws. I will definitely be adding a shadow line to the Bosch.

@ShopRamblings7 ай бұрын
The question is, why were you having trouble getting 90⁰ cut. I was able to make 90⁰ cuts with both saws. The Bosch is easier to get 90⁰. Is the issue the saw needs to be squared where it makes the same cut every time but is not 90⁰ or does it cut different angles?

Great comparison, thanks. I've been looking at the 10" Bosch. It's a real shame there's no shadow line; hopefully they will refresh this model soon. The deflection on the Ridgid is absurd, but I'm not happy about the amount on the Bosch either (I do more woodworking than construction). I have a crappy Ryobi and want to upgrade because the deflection is so bad. Even if your pressure is perfectly straight down, the blade will wander - maddening! I can get better cuts with a circular saw and a rafter square. Maybe I'm expecting too much, but I fail to see the point of a miter saw that can't reliably cut miters. Maybe I should try a non-sliding model, or reconsider my need for a miter saw altogether. :D
@ShopRamblings11 ай бұрын
I definitely could not do without a miter saw. It is second only to my table saw. But you do need to depend on it being accurate. I had the power 10 sliding miter saw and it was the most accurate out of all of them. It could cut the widest board, even wider than the 12 inch Bosch or rigid. But it was almost 4 foot from front to back. It just did not fit where I needed it to go. They not sliding will be a lot more accurate. However a 12-inch non-sliding can only cut about an 8 inch board. I am happy so far with the Bosch and will be much more pleased once I get a shadow line at it.

Great review. I am curious about the deflection test. You have come up with an interesting way to test for deflection. Have you accounted for any difference in the blades? It would appear that the blade deflection is contributing or what is actually being measured. It also looks like you have two different blades on the saw. The Bosch blade does not appear to have the same level of burnishing on it. This might contributing to the chip out difference? I do not own either saw so I don't have a dog in the fight. I also own both Delta and Ridgid equipment. Again, thank you for the comparison.

I added an Oshlun LG-M01 Laser Guide for my Bosch miter saw for about $31 and it works perfectly. Only marks the left side of blade but that's about 95% of the cut position I use. I've owned a couple of these saws since 2011 and would not buy another brand with what is currently offered. The Festool has more bells and whistles but it's more than 2.4X the cost of the Bosch. The Bosch is the best for the money and if you have a Menards in your area, they often are $577 with the 11% rebate, which has been running for most of 2024. I also have the fixed base Bosch miter stand, which is much more stable than the gravity lift portable stand and has 6' extensions on both sides of the saw, which is longer and more rigid than the gravity stand. Cheaper too. I took my old gravity stand and mounted a cheap Metabo 10' miter saw on it for when I need to take it to a job site. If you want a longer fence, I replaced the Bosch fence with 3" x 36" long multitracks on each side. By adding a POWERTEC 71119V 36 Inch Double-Cut Profile Universal T-Track with Predrilled Mounting Holes under the multitrack, I can cut thin stock without it slipping under the 3" multitrack. Added additional bracing for the multitrack off my dust box I made, but that's another story. I have almost zero dust with my dust box connected to my 6" DC.

They were out of stock for several months. Then they came back in stock, then gone again. I think they buy container loads at a time but only get shipments every few month. The best way is to sent an inventory notification.

The Bosch Glide has been around a long time. How do they justify asking $600 for a saw and not so much as throw on a laser guide?

I think DIYers wil be happy with the Delta/Ridgid. But, it I was running a shop Bosch/Makita for sure.
@ShopRamblings3 ай бұрын
I think most people will be happy with either. They are both good saws, but both have their issues. I just wish the Bosch had the shadow line.
@mpe7778 ай бұрын
Also, I saw that Delta makes practically the same saw called the Cruzer.

Yes, if you pull up the schematic, any part that is not orange has the same part number. They are both made in the same factory.

The Bosch has a laser guide. Two beams that the blade cuts between. Pretty sure mines same model. It's the 12"

What is the model number of yours?

I've had several Bosch saws over the years. Id pick that over the HD/Delta all day long. A buddy has the HD.. its like comparing a Chevy to a Toyota. For retirement i treated myself to the Festool.... its far too expensive but.... it beats the Bosch...all day long
@ShopRamblings4 ай бұрын
Maybe one day I will be able to get a Festool, but I doubt it.

I added a shadow line to my Bosch!
@ShopRamblings11 ай бұрын
Once I get one added I believe it will be a great saw.

Please tell me the exact part you got to add a shadow line to the Bosch.
@phcalama10 ай бұрын
@@jdw6727 Wish I could tell you exactly but I'm unable to identify the exact part I used. If memory serves it was from a sewing machine light I bought off Amazon. There is another KZbin video were someone else added a shadow line light to the 12" Bosch glide using the light salvaged from a sewing machine light. Perhaps you can find the details there. Good luck.

This style saw has been out on the market for years now and for the interest of continuing quality improvement you better not be holding your breath. 😂 I don’t know why tool manufacturers can’t or won’t build something that craftsmen demand as a basic function such as repeatable accuracy, durability and ease of use? They all seem to lack respect for the end user of their tools.

The housing is already molded for a light. Like you said, it has been out for years. Why the don't offer an add-on beats me.

The European Version of the Bosch has a Laser. This is why there is a empty housing.

Does the laser go on both sides of the blade or just one.

One day, I may be able to afford to find out. I caught both of these on sale for about $300. If I ever find a Kpex close to that, I will get it.

@ShopRamblings Even FLEX has a higher tolerance that bought, for you isn't foot print is larger but by far a better product. DeWalt makes a tried and threw product at a similar price. If you had to tune the arms on those miter saw you will be in a world of hurt.

Makita makes a good saw. It is $739. I paid $320 for this one. I can deal with this one for $400 less.
