Thanks ! They can get big here but no really big ones this close to shore, maybe a 15lb salmon if you're lucky but 40lb salmon is not uncommon in boats just offshore. At the ocean shore there are large/sharp barnacles that your shoes grip very well to so I try to stand on those. They do look like freshwater bass, some people call them sea bass, or rock cod but the proper name here is rockfish. They come in many colors and patterns, Google pacific rockfish to see what I mean, they are beauts!

Had really bad luck last 3 years. Stopped bringing cameras cause I never catch anything, hopefully with the decent tides that day you'll run into a few, I'm sure. Good luck!

So on part of this video you used a clear bobber and what was on the end of your leader?

I went out there to Beechy Head for the first time (just getting into shore casting) but there was kept everywhere and couldnt continue. I dont see any kelp in your vid. I was trying for Salmon but maybe thats too difficult for me, I should try for rockfish like your doing here.

What rod(s) do you use for saltwater casting? Also for salmon? What pound test? Thanks
@FishingWithDanVictoriaBC9 жыл бұрын
Max Nish Rod should be a med-heavy, for line try either mono: 15-20 pound test or braid: 20-30 pound test(with a 15-20 pound leader).

Hi, using small jig heads with curly tail grubs, they love 'em !
@rickyhall29527 жыл бұрын
any particular color grubs, white, yellow? I fish they jetty in Oregon. I use live sand shrimp but I hate paying for bait that you lose every other cast, or when a fish or crab eats it. I catch a lot of rock fish with swim baits, just not any greenling with swim bait.

How big do this fish actually get here? Aren't you afraid of slipping on the rocks to when they get all wet and you are fighting a fish? They look just like the largemouth bass I catch here except they don't have the stripe... good vid brother...

Hey man, cool video ! I'm new in town and I just wanted to aks you a few tips for east Sooke Park. I have a Shimano Blue Romance Jerkbait, normally used with long jerk lures, big spoons, and big silicone lures, which are actually the lures I have plus some smaller minnow. What ( predatory ? ) fishes can I target in the first 2 metres of water starting from the surface in those spots ? Do you think shore jigging with jigs between 45 and 100 grams would work for any fish there ? Thank you !

Forgot to mention that my reel is a Penn Spinfisher V with a 50 pounds braided line. ( I'm looking for big fishes )

Salmon are do-able but not every time you go, from a boat is good but from shore maybe 1 in 10 times if you're lucky so you gotta invest a lot of time and like hiking in and out, never seen a ling over 13 inches there.

Hi, It depends on where you fish/what time of year and you also need to know where rockfish conservation areas are before you go fishing but...KZbin will not allow me to post links to the regs you are asking about so.... You should ask questions and on the local facebook group, search: "Shore Casting Van. Island" and get answers/links. Oh and click here> 0:16
