I am such a fan of yours. I love 52 Masters. And think you are quite the karateka. Little bias, studied Okinawan Shorin Ryu when I was a kid in Gary, Indiana. Master Yamashita would come to the dojo often. This was back in the 70's. Keep up the great work.

Great interview! I first met William a few years ago. He's a very fine martial artist and gentleman. We see each other every so often at Dragonfest and functions at the Martial Arts History Museum in Burbank. I can totally vouch for his series 52 Masters -- it's really well done. And "The Last Dojo" is a must watch for everyone who practices traditional martial arts.

Shorin Ryu is a great Karate style. As my first introduction to martial arts, I loved it in all the wrong ways. I had a very cute instructor, so I had to go to another dojo since my attention was not in the dojo. 🤣 I don’t know this guy, but he is obviously very cool. Awesome video Dan Sensei! Shorin Ryu was your first style? That's awesome (for whatever reason you were there hehe). The school I used to teach for sublet the school out for a Shorin Ryu class and it was interesting to see the contrast from Kenpo.

@@ArtofOneDojo as a young student, the Shorin Ryu Karate dojo I attended insisted on intensive stretching for high kicking. It wasn’t helping me for what I needed at that moment in my youth. Once I started taking Judo, the results were immediate and progress was rapid. 👍

Shorin Ryu is arguably the close to traditional Okinawan Karate and still has that strong Shaolin influence.

Very good, informative interview. Mostly because you allow the interviewee to talk without a lot of interruptions (unlike most other interviewers today). I agree that many arts today use techniques that are not found in the original art. And I think it's happened so often and has been integrated so seamlessly that many practitioners wouldn't be able to tell you if the particular technique was from the original art. If you can't find a certain move in any of the style's katas, then where did it come from?! That's not a bad thing, though. Innovation and adaptation are natural because things and circumstances change. As long as you maintain the original katas as a history lesson of the style.

Sensei William Christopher Ford aka: Dennis from the Karate Kid 3, was always one of my favourite characters or antagonists, that I wish would have got a bigger and more extended role, to showcase his martial arts talents. I feel that perhaps along with 'Karate's Bad Boy' Mike Barnes, they both could have been the representatives of Cobra Kai Karate at the tournament in the Karate Kid film, where he could have fought a number of competitors, before squaring off against Daniel Larusso and giving him a fair bit of a thrashing, before Daniel would eventually find a way to win and move onto the very final match of the tournament, against Mike Barnes! It would have been nice to see 'Dennis' perform a few more training drills with Mike Barnes, along with Sensei John Kreese, as well as Sensei Terry Silver in preparation for the tournament. Or why not even have at the beginning of the film, have Sensei William Christopher Ford (Dennis) spar with Sensei Terry Silver, as one of the two training martial arts partners, that he brutalised at the top of his luxurious mansion, besides the balcony, courtyard. 'Dennis The Menace' how awesome that such a classic cartoon character, inspired Sensei William Christopher Ford, to come up with the name for his Karate Kid character (Dennis), when asked by John Avildson on the spot what name should they name his henchman character. I definitely concur with Sensei William Christopher Ford, that cross training in other martial arts, such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Catch Wrestling, Muay Thai, Boxing and so forth, can unlock our minds to see, that the movements of our katas in our respective Karate styles, have various other possible applications, that might have been forgotten, or not explained over time, or that its bunkai (applications) might be possibly more than just one. I have definitely seen his KZbin channel series the 52 Masters series, up until the the most recent episode and I agree with you Sensei Dan that it is definitely worth watching. It is great to see that he is a very skillful individual, yet he remains humble and open minded, about learning other techniques from other styles, to not only improve and refine, his own personal knowledge and growth as a martial artist, but also that of the students at his dojo. If and should they bring back Mike Barnes into future Cobra Kai series, I would definitely like to see Dennis (Sensei William Christopher Ford) character return, along of course with Sensei Darryl Vidal and perhaps them even squaring off after all these years, to hypothetically see where all their skill levels are at, after all these years just as Chozen did in Okinawa, after Daniel Returned back to America at the beginning of The Karate Kid 3 film. A mind blowing interview with carefully crafted, questions and detailed observations as always Sensei Dan, thank you so much for bringing us Sensei William Christopher Ford to your KZbin channel, Osu🇲🇽🇦🇺🥋🙏!

Only person on the Cobra Kai I would say I would need to do a training camp against William has some skills on Cobra Kai I would like to see lyoto Machida with his karate background and his muy tai kickboxing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu background it would be interesting to see the next step into the MMA cage not just point sparing look any type of fighting your going to get hit if your not knocked out accept it adapt and change and keep going William I see as someone interesting he has some of that mindset of Jeff Speekman who takes that Ed Parker mindset

In elementary school, karate kid 3 was the first book i ever read to completion. I believe i got it at a scholastic book fair. I might still have it somewhere

YES! That's where I got my copy as well! 1989 and I was in 6th grade and I ordered mine from the Scholastic book fair. I picked up the novelization for KK1 and KK2 on eBay a couple of years ago.

taekwondo was founded by the general choi and he was a Tang soo do practitioner but later tang soo do is announced the style is splits up into 9 styles after the korean war
