1966 is my birth year. This was already a classic by the time I was old enough to remember seeing it. As far as I am concerned, this is the ONLY Grinch show. I don't recognize the Jim Carry movie. This one. Only.

In Sweden, we celebrate Christmas on December 24 and typically we open the presents after 16.00 when From All of Us to All of You is over on TV. Also unlike in England and the US. Santa comes to the homes of kids to deliver them in person rather than going through the chimeny when everybody's asleep and put the presents underneath the tree (though in some home there are a gift or two in the stocking to be opened on Christmas Eve morning.

I was six when it came out. Instant classic!

Originally there was only one pause in the movie for a commercial. It was at the point where the Grinch is on the sleigh at the the top cliff going down to Whoville. The man who sang the Mr Grinch song was the same voice actor who did the Kellogs Cornflakes commercials where he did the voice of Tony the Tiger saying "They're Great!"

Yes, in that part the movie faded to black and then came back, so it makes sense xD

You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch isn't in the book but the lyrics were written by Dr. Seuss specially for this special. It was sung by Thurl Ravenscroft, most famously for vocing Tony the Tiger for Kellogg's Frosted Flakes/Frosties but also did voice acting and singing in choruses for many Disney and other animated movies, such as Sir Bart from The Sword in the Stone, Al the Alligator in Lady and the Tramp, Captain the Horse in 101 Dalmatians, Monstro the Whale in Pinocchio aand Kirby the Vaccuum Cleaner in The Brave Little Toaster Trilogy.

Dr Seus wrote the book.The movie was made by the animator who did the Bugs Bunny cartoons. The cartoon was narrated by Boris Karlof who also did the voice of the Grinch. It was one of my father's favourite Xmas movies. He bought me the book in 1968 when I was six. I still have it.

Thank you so much for watching the original. As one other person stated, I grew up on this. I can't even bring myself to watch the Jim Carrey version. Strikes me as downright disrespectful to the wonder that IS the original. :)

I think that I saw part of the Jim Carrey one as a kid, but yeah, always the original first!
@johng482 Жыл бұрын
I thought the same but was convinced to watch the Jim Carrey version. It’s more like a love letter to the original rather than something to try to replace or disrespect the original. Obviously, they had to add to it to fill out 90 minutes but they gave the Grinch a backstory and made him a sympathetic character you wanted to see redeemed.

One of the all-time classic animated television specials! The author of the original book is known as "Dr. Seuss" (his real name was Theodore Seuss Geisel) who wrote and illustrated many classic children's books. And, yes, the narration you hear in this is all from the original book (and, yes, it all rhymes). The song "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch" was newly written for the TV special. The director was Charles M. Jones who directed many of the all-time classic Looney Tunes cartoons (Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Road Runner and Coyote, etc.) If you get a chance check out some of his all-time classic cartoons like "What's Opera, Doc?", "The Rabbit of Seville", "One Froggy Evening", "Duck Amuck"...(there are many, many, more) The voice of the narrator was Boris Karloff. He is best known for playing Frankenstein's creature in the classic Frankenstein movies from the 1930's. He also portrayed The Mummy in the 1932 movie. The voice singing "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" was Thurl Ravenscroft who was the voice of Tony the Tiger, the animated spokesman for Frosted Flakes cereal for more than 50 years. His famous catch phrase was "They're GRRRRREAT!!"

This Christmas special was directed by Chuck Jones who was famous for directing Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons for Warner Bros. such as Bugs Bunny cartoons like Long-Haried Hare, The Hunting Trilogy (Rabbit Fire, Rabbit Seasoning and Duck! Rabbit, Duck!), The Rabbit of Seville and What's Opera, Doc?, Daffy Duck cartoons like Drip-Along Daffy, Duck Amuck, Duck Dogers in the 24 1/2th Century and Robin Hood Daffy and the creator of Looney Tunes characters such as Wile E Coyote and the Road Runner, Pepe Le Pew, Marvin the Martian, The Three Beaars, Hubie and Bertie, Marc-Anthony and Pussyfoot and Michigan J. Frog (from the famous cartoon One Froggy Evening, me I dislike that cartoon as I find the frog to be a jerk). He also wrote the screenplay for UPA's Gay Purree wih his wife Dorothy and made character designs for the movie (unfortunatley, when Warner Bros. became the movie's distrubitor they found out his contract violation and therefore was fired from the company in 1962) and later made Tom & Jerry cartoons for MGM through his independant studio Sib Tower 12 Productions. He also produced the compilation film The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Movie which contained his best Looney Tunes shorts such as those mentioned above. He made this movie in collabartion with the book's author Theodore Gielsel AKA Dr. Seuss, who was a friend of Jones and collaberated on the Private Snafu shorts for educating soilders during World War II. In 1996, Chuck Jones won an Honorary Academy Award for his achievements during the years, especailly during the Golden Era of Theatrical Cartoons. He passed away in 2002 from congesrive heaart failure.
