Short Circuit was absolutely my favorite movie as a kid and still is in my top 5. The second seemed a little sillier and less clever, but damn, the beating and afterward really is brutal, and that soft piano music as he tries to get up is like the most heartbreaking music in anything ever.
@alvexok5523 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I agree with you on all that you said. I agree that the second movie is sillier than the first, but it's still a good story with Ben trying to make it in the big city (it's Toronto although the movie says it's a US city but doesn't specify which one). I like the scenes with J5 struggling to fit in when roaming the streets, and Ben teaming up with Fred (Michael McKean) to make a profit from wholesaling smaller toy versions of J5. I kinda wish that Stephanie (Ally Sheedy) and Newton (Steve Guttonsburg) returned to this one. It's mentioned that they've gotten married while living together in Montana, which they said they were driving towards at the end of the first movie. And they decided to send J5 to Ben in the city.. Oscar (Jack Westen) and his 2 goons played the bad guys pretty well, and it went well with the plot that it wasn't revealed until later that Oscar was one of the bad guys and was only just pretending to befriend the protagonists and J5 just to find a way to get to the jewels he and his goons were wanting to steal. And Oscar deceitfully using J5 to dig under the street to break into the bank vault that contained them. I've noticed that that soft piano tune is played a few different times throughout the movie, once when Johnny 5 looks at his reflection in a shiny artifact after a couple of passerbyers consider the artifact repulsive and J5 thinks they meant him. And then the tune is played again in this sad scene after J5 is beaten and mangled. And it plays again when Ben puts the defilibrator on J5 and brings him back to life after he was thought dead for about a minute.

11:17 - Okay, I get what you're saying, but you are forgetting one thing: these are prototypes. They're only meant to be used for presentation, as we see at the start of the film. They are nowhere near being the final product. Most prototypes of anything are far away from being a final product. Basically, if the whole Number 5 being struck by lightning never happened, Nova would have been given the financing they were trying to secure and they would have rebuilt the robots after doing more testing to find out any weak spots (this explains why Number 5 wasn't able to handle the gunshots earlier in the film when Stephanie meets Ben and Newtown, because the Nova SAINT robots were prototypes, and not armored). So, as a result, Number 5 was able to exploit a weakness to water in the mud, a weakness that would have been discovered through further testing after funding and resolved for the production line model.

Always loved this movie, I think because as a kid I related to Johnny 5 more then any adult characters in the movie, because he's a freaking four day old and 90% of his life experience is what he saw on TV or in a book and as such relies on them far more then any other character would. That's why he's always quoting them, and why his idea for Ben's date involves a scheme overused by way too many shows and movies to name...which actually worked exactly like what most of those episodes would've had it work out like. Damn maybe that was his plan all along.
@shizachan84212 жыл бұрын
Also the whole scheme was surprisingly not as creepy as they usually play out, he got into the date honestly, his social anxiety made him feel like he needs Johnnys help in what he should say and he reveals it during the date instead of building anything on this.

Nate J. Chappie is R rated? Oh I forgot that everything that has more then one "fuck" is R rated in US. Year later I watch it again because my dad told me that this is not THIS movie and again I run away :D I was able to see the whole movie when I was 13, and I become a fan of the trilogy since (probably some kind of Stockholm syndrome). Thought film ratings become a thing in my country when I was 10, and they where very basic: green for everyone, yellow to watch with adults, red adults only. Films like Alien or Predator had yellow marking, red markings were very rare. Chappie would probably get yellow

Doug doesn't ever really seem to point stuff like this out, but it really irritates me when a movie wants to defy physics and gravity. When #5 is spinning those two goons around in a circle he isn't spinning them fast enough for them to lift completely in the air like that. If they wanted to hold onto their weapons so badly (which they should have let go of anyways) they would of just awkwardly had to sidestep with #5 or be dragged along the floor while #5 probably has a harder time spinning in a circle while trying to drag their weight along with. The scenes in superman piss me off for the same reason, unless superman is somehow sharing his power of flying she wouldn't be flying right beside him like that, gravity would be trying to kill her as superman only held onto her hand.

You realize that wasn't the military in the beginning, it was Nova security. They just pretended to be military.

Johnny 5....that sounds sorta like J-5. Speaking of J-5, when are you gonna do a review of Blankman? Thumbs up for a review of Blankman.

Ngl when I watched the part of him getting like beaten down while calling out that he was alive, left and then seen just slowly picking himself up and rolling his painful way and writing 'dying' the tone was so fucking different. Also the quality from then and now is pretty noticable in your videos

hackman669 Then wouldn't he say his parents were from, you know, India? The whole point of that joke in the first movie was that Ben is a born US citizen who just happened to have an incredibly overstated Indian accent: you assume accent = foreigner, but he isn't one. I guess whoever made the second movie didn't get the joke.

I NEVER knew as kid living in another country when watching Short Circuit 2 that it was shot in Toronto, as an adult now i am a Canadian Citizen living in Toronto.... crazy.

The first movie was a staple in my screwed childhood. I love that movie so much, but my dad forbade me watch the second, saying that it was too stupid, or it was too much a stretch to even call it a sequel or even related to the first... I've never watched it, so I can't say, but to be honest I don't really want to if Johnny Five gets beat nearly to death in that one. Plus I'd miss Stephanie and Newton, I loved them in the first.

Lmao watching this with closed captions and toward the end, Doug says "So Fred actually does a fairly decent job of putting Johnny 5 back together, even though his lifespan seems to be dwindling..." but the CC says "...even though his wife's panties beep...." I'm laughing way too hard at this

I'd love for Johnny 5 to come back in a movie or Netflix series, but only with practical effects! Heck, with the advancements in robotics these days, they could actually build a functioning Johnny 5 bot!
@Bookmite18 жыл бұрын
You know... I don't want a remake of this, I want a continuation! Seriously, I want to see a movie set in the future, where robots are commonplace. You know, your typical 'robot rebellion' sort of movie... Until suddenly, Jhonny 5 either shows up, or is found and rebuilt. Basically imagine the movie Toys with J5 and a mini J5 robot army, in the future. Also, much as I hate to say it, directed by Michael Bay. Come on, it would be awesome.

26:03 - Funny enough; I was exactly the same in the Cinemar at that scene. Eyes glued to the silver screen, carefully watching the blue lines of fake-electricity moving up.... Sooo... The scene was intense and highly remarkable without a doubt, given its time and target audience.
