Saw this in the theater when I was 9 years old. In an alternate timeline Guttenburg would have had a career like Tom Hanks.

Fun fact: the actors of Scrotter and Newton Crosby also star in Police Academy. Thanks for watching this! I remember seeing this as a kid and the end really had me crying. If you liked this, please please watch the sequel. It’s even better.
@laurakali6522Ай бұрын
Oh you might like Batteries Not Included. And a fun comedy nobody reacts to is Three Men and a Baby. Steve Guttenberg is in that one too.

A childhood favorite. I rented this a lot at Blockbuster.

"Johnny 5 is alive!" Love this movie. You should definitely watch the sequel. 32:05 you were on to something when you noticed one more was missing

Watched both movies so many times on VHS as a kid! Still have the first movie on VHS and I'm never giving it away!

My family had these (and a ton of other movies) recorded from TV broadcasts onto VHS. But I don't have any of those tapes floating around any more. Picked myself up copies on DVD when those became available at least, though.

2:49 The Hallway if Dooooomm! 10:35 Hey guess what.. 15:43 Play dough 18:47 I like that annoyed sound he makes, earlier we see Newton make that same noise when Ben comes to bring him to the party. 26:43 He reminds me of that learning video game from way back when that had a robot called Socrates that looked like Number 5.(seemed to have the same kibd of graphics as the Oregon Trail game) 32:14 Yayy!! 🎉

Great movie. Another great 80 adventure movie is Flight of the Navigator 1986.

Still my favourite film, I’ve been watching this since I was five. David Shire did an amazing score for the intro, I still listen to it daily.

This was one of my favorite films when I was a kid! I'm pretty sure it helped me develop my empathy and open-mindedness. Just because someone is different, doesn't mean they aren't a person, or shouldn't be treated with respect. Ah yes, Ben, the stereotypical Indian guy. He was played by Stephen Fisher, who is very much not Indian. Not great, and especially notable in this day and age. The fact that he's the main character in the sequel might put you off from watching it. _However,_ I think the sequel is better the original, so I'd still recommend giving it a watch.

Pardon my language but I'm so fucking glad you reacted to this. This is one of my favorite movies.

For being mid 80s the effects are great. Neat fact the sound of the lasers firing is the sound of the Ghostbusters packs powered up.

For I thought this can’t be the ending for this movie when friendly robot tried to understand the world and human will accept him to be their friend. Until I hear his voice 32:02, it makes me happy when I was 10.
@LegnaiaUndergroundАй бұрын
30:17 I just realized this joke was lost in translation in the Italian dub. There it goes like "At the instant?" "At the instant!" "How much time do I have?" "Not even a second. We need that robot.", no pun at all. The original "stats?" "Stats!" "What does that mean anyway?" "I don't know!" is funny instead. No idea why they didn't just translate the joke.

This one of my favorite Movies because Johnny 5 is ALIVE !!! - Number 5 in the movie is originally called by the acronym S.A.I.N.T. “Strategic Artificially Intelligent Nuclear Transport” which was a complex machine that many people were needed to operate it in fact his voice actor was one of those puppeteers which is Tim Blaney who also voices Frank the pug (Men in Black) & sung the Goofy Goober theme song while he has puppeteer for Muppets, MST3K, Angel, Dinosaurs, & many more - Speaking of the machine itself his eyeslids / eyebrows were not only to express emotions but was to shade the camera lens eyes from the light & also as for his laser uses the same sound was from Ghostbusters proton packs - John Badham the director actually made a cameo in this film where he plays the role of a news cameraman - They filmed this movie in Astoria, Oregon which was a well known spot of filming like for other movies like Kindergarten Cop, The Goonies, Turtles III, Free Willy, & many more - There was a music video for this movie called “Who’s Johnny” by El DeBarge

If one thinks about it, it makes little sense to have just built five PROTOTYPES worth 11 million dollars (from the 80s) each and already having multiple vans around filled with spare parts for those robots, enough for building more than one complete robot each... But who cares, I love this movie! I watched it countless times as a kid!
@matveynoname708319 күн бұрын
I heard that Pixar called the similarity of the main character to Wall-E a coincidence.
@XperimentorEESАй бұрын
To think they actually made something like a dozen of these robots for the movie, rarely get that kind of dedicated creativity anymore. Not the only scifi film to do so of course, but the other that comes to mind isn't remotely as family friendly lol.

You ask about the sequel? Some like it less than the first one, some like it even more, it depends on personal taste. Worth a watch? Yes. They managed to make it a bit different, and still brong some strong emotions to 80s kids.

A movie where you can just lose yourself for awhile.😁 5. I found "Short Circuit II" disappointing.😒 PS: If you haven't already check out "Saturday Night Fever"
