NOTE: I didn't realize while prepping this video that E.M. Carroll had changed their name / pen name and accidentally refer to them with their old pen name. This is my own mistake, and the correct name is reflected in the captions of this video!

Every time you give a new list I'm already spoiled for choice but this time around I had to pause halfway through because I ran out of holds in my library 😂🧡 I am definitely saving this list for later!

Side note a novella that I think fits the bill that I've heard a lot of people like (though take that with a grain of salt because I personally wasn't a huge fan of the execution, though I still like the premise) is Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire. 176 pages, it's about a home for children who went through the door to Narnia/Wonderland/What have you, and came back too fundamentally "different" to reintegrate into "normal" society. It turns into a spooky murder mystery and generally has those good fall vibes, though I wish it were longer so it could have lingered on the character dynamics more/made the twists and turns feel more impactful. Overall a fun queer read for spooky season 👍🧡

5:36 I loved Garlic and the Vampire! The sequel was pretty good, too. Edit: Cute, cozy, and casually queer. 💜

‘Let Me Out’ in particular sounds amazing. Loved ‘Mapping the Interior’.

I recently read The Night Wanderer by Drew Hayden Taylor, and while the novel itself is longer, I found out it has also been adapted into a graphic novel! It's about an Anishinaabe vampire who went to Europe and got turned shortly after Europeans first landed in the Americas, but now is coming home to connect with his community. And while it's more fluffy than spooky, I love Mooncakes by Wendy Xu and Suzanne Walker, which is about a witch and werewolf fighting a demon that's trying to steal the werewolf's power

Destroyer is so good! I'd forgotten that I have actually read two by Victor LaValle (The Ballad of Black Tom being the other--also recommended!). And I just read The Halloween Tree this year for the first time, and...sadly, didn't love it, even though Bradbury is one of my favorite writers. I obviously need to check out the animated adaptation! Thanks for the great list!
