Unfortunately I'm absolutely not into Apple products and as such can only give you a cursory answer that I kind of snatched up in the last few videos of the Apple Studio Display. The main issue with 4K is that Apple is scaling differently than linux/windows. I cannot give you the details, but it uses a weird custom scaling that perfectly fits with 5K display resolution but makes e.g. text on a 4K display look slighty unsharp/fuzzy around the edges of characters. I can only presume this to be the mentioned problem but this might be enough to google for more details
@speedyg123.2 жыл бұрын

@@speedyg123. Like with many questions regarding such topics, there is no general best option. I myself still use a 1080p 144hz monitor because it is enough for me and your best choice depends on your intentions. If you wish to primarily watch movies or game, this impacts you much less than daily work in office 365 or programming. Also depends on you not minding the scaling issue when you have the monitor yourself (ofc sending it back then is still an option). As a general approach, I would honestly just go for the 4K and see for myself how bad it is - worst case sending it back and looking for a 5K or maybe some 2k mac scaling compatible choice

There are tons of them. Professional creator and editor needs accurate color calibration to do their works..

You didn't mention if there are ads in the Samsung smart TV UI because I know they've baked in ads into their smart TV so I would have liked to know if it was in this monitor. Given that you didn't mention it though I guess it doesn't have any ads

I will not buy another smart display after Sony/Google decided to add banner advertisements consuming the top 1/3 of of my 3 year old $1000 TV during an update. They claimed that it's "for my benefit" but the feature that lets you turn off home screen components that you don't want is greyed out for the adverts.

I'll take a Sony with Google TV that's always supported. Every single LG and Samsung with webOS and Tizen lost support for Netflix, prime, and/or Hulu, and I needed to buy a Roku for all of them. The scrolling movie/TV show banner at the top is a non issue. For me, they're not really ads anyways, as I have access to all the shows they show in the banner anyways.

I have to say, since I've been using bluetooth speakers (no space for actual shelf speakers, or too lazy to make space). I don't think I'd ever accept any basic monitor or laptop speaker anymore, the extra bass a simple bt speaker can add makes a huge difference even when watching podcasts, shows or other basic audio stuff. Prime example would be listening to Markiplier talk on Distractables with and without speakers with bass, is a huge difference.

I got the M7 predecessor to this - Samsung had discounted it and also had a cashback to clear stocks ready for the M8, so I got it for £187 ($244 inc tax). At that price, the M7 was well worth it just for being a 32" 4K monitor. After trying them out once (the built-in Office stuff was horribly laggy/slow and it had a Teams icon that told you it does nothing and you have to run Teams on your PC instead - ridiculous, but maybe they fixed that in the M8, especially now there's a webcam included), I don't even bother using any of the smart features because I have a Linux desktop attached. I did do the initial setup in my kitchen with nothing attached for the lolz and I do use the remote control to turn it off and on, but that's it. Every monitor, dumb or smart, should have a remote control in addition to onboard controls - it makes monitor UI navigation so much more convenient. One thing that the M7 suffered from was being a rather dark display (I believe this has been improved with the M8), but I found the right M7 settings to boost the brightness to a reasonable level (no, it's not just increasing the brightness to 50 [yep, 50 is the max, not 100]). The M8? Well, the $729 price is frankly ludicrous - three times the price of my M7! I like the M8 webcam (but I have a good Logitech USB 1080p webcam attached to my Linux PC already), but very little else seems to have improved over the M7. In fact, the M8 is available in 4 colours, none of which are the M7's black (all my kit is black and I suspect I'm not the only one) - it's very dumb of Samsung to not offer the M8 in black. Conclusion: M8 is a nice monitor but massively overpriced and not a big enough advance over the M7 to justify its price or even its existence. It's made me even happier that I got the M7 so cheap (trying to find a sub-£200 32" 4K dumb monitor in the UK is impossible, let alone a smart one).

If you don't care that much about gaming (or you mostly play slower-paced and not very resource-intensive games), this would be the ideal dorm room setup. You have your Netflix and other streaming services, you can connect your phone with Dex (or a laptop via USB-C) and be productive, you can go on video calls with the webcam, maybe even do photo editing in Lightroom... Would have been really nice had this been released during the pandemic when everyone was getting devices for online school and remote work.

Can't wait for M9 with hopefully a QD-OLED high refresh rate display, maybe they can also take the metal build, thunderbolt connection, and higher pixel density from the Apple monitor for a higher end version. It's a shame that no one has been able to make a more efficient while still powerful chip compared to Apple still, that would have made the smart features experience on this basically perfect.

What I want is an IPS 32" - 40" 1440p display that supports ARC to use as a bedroom TV. No such product exists to my knowledge. "Smart" is a tick in the negative column. No display needs internet connectivity, "apps", or assistant BS (in fact no device ever needs assistant BS). I do NOT want to see service specific buttons on a remote. I want lots of discrete buttons for all inputs and menus.

Note, it’s brightness rating is 400 nits not 4,000, opposed to Apple Display with 600 nits. In my opinion I had to exchange M8 with Apple Display, I do graphics and food photography and was not pleased with the color, the text looks so faint you have to squint to read, even though you adjust the scaling. Maybe it will be good as a second monitor, you can place your tools if you are editing video or doing graphic in illustrator or other apps that let you do that, like in DaVinci Resolve if you are doing color correction, you can place your scoops on second monitor.
