So! About the Polaroids: they're fully analog and not digital cameras with printers built in. However, some models now are Bluetooth enabled so you can have remote shutter functionality and also manual controls(depending on the model). Also, the Polaroid company that exists now is not the same one from yesteryear. A company called The Impossible Project purchased the machinery from the last Polaroid factory in the Netherlands and had to reverse engineer the photo chemistry. The new formula ended up being physically thicker and thats why there's now only 8 exposures per cart instead of 10. Eventually, the impossible project was able to get the rights to use the Polaroid name, giving us the modern Polaroid company we have today!
@chrissoclone11 сағат бұрын
Still even pricier and not yet up to the quality of Instax, which is also analog. I really tried to love Polaroid (Impossible) and still have two cameras, but the price for just 8 prints alone kills it, and Instax has just the better quality. I wish Fuji would make film for Polaroid cameras... or come out with a more "classic" Instax camera design (I know they tried a few times, but I still don't like them).
@abearham10 сағат бұрын
@chrissoclone yeeeeeah, the polaroid ecosystem is quite small and they only have a glass lens on their i-2 now(I think?). While on the instax side, you have people like Leica, Lomography, and Mint making much more interesting cameras (and sharper lenses) for the format. Plus since the instax chemistry has been around for ages compared to the new Polaroid, Fuji has had time to refine their formula to be more color accurate. I just think the story of the modern polaroid company is neat

The video where he took a pic of a bar's cat and gave it to the barwoman was amazing 😍

I have to say this video was poorly researched (I'm a fan, so this doesn't come out of spite). First, the photos from the second polaroid need to be kept in the dark to develop well; it's plainly written in the instructions. Also, that model is more expensive because it has a bluetooth connection to the smartphone app and it allows for full manual control. I'm only saying this as it is a pity the second polaroid was disregarded so quickly. It's not cheap, sure, but you can get the same model with no bluetooth or manual controls, for quite cheaper.

Light doesn't matter on instant film. Instant film is specifically developed in a way that light only reaches the areas when it's already developed - that's the whole point about them and has been since their invention, what you're thinking is developing a normal film by adding the chemicals yourself in a dark room, where light entirely destroys the image and no protection layer is present.
@Barkugou4203 сағат бұрын
You have to keep them dark because any light (in this case studio lighting) is gonna fuck up saturation and contrast of the image while it's developing. I'm not so sure about the instax film though

@@DenisRyan Well, it's missing the analog quality and haptics, it's simply digital print - a 4 color print quite similar to a laser print, which was never fantastic and to me looks just like an average digital print. Instead I'd rather buy a pack of photo paper for my inkjet and get much better print quality for cheaper and any size I want. For that instant film look and feel I'd rather have a truely analog solution, not just a pocket laserprinter... but to each their own I guess.

So the Leica has an internal screen that exposes the film when you want it to? That's fascinating, also why it can print photos from your phone onto the flim.

The only real utility I see with Polaroid/Instax is that you can take a picture, and everyone involved will know for a fact that the picture doesn't exist anywhere outside that one print unless someone in possession of the print takes a photo of it.
