Great that they are putting so much time and effort into their machines, I'm happy to see Lenovo doing what they do... But the price! Here in Denmark in terms of price it starts at about 1.7 modern gaming spec desktop computers, and the top of the line bells and whistles version costs 2.5 gaming desktop computers.

I'm glad they kept the fingerprint reader and glass trackpad, since those were removed from the regular Legion Pro 7 models this year (presumably to reduce costs from RTX 40 series and maybe provide a higher-tier Legion 9 model later). Unfortunately where I am in the US we won't be getting the 100% DCI-P3 display model in this video, which is a real shame because none of the other displays are as competitive with what's on offer from the likes of Asus ROG right now. I'm also definitely looking forward to the AMD version; hopefully you guys can get your hands on one of those down the line.

I'm a big fan of the Lenovo Legion series and especially the Slim 7 models. I have the Slim 7 Gen 6 (IIRC) with a 5800h, RTX3060, 500gb NVME and 1440p 165hz IPS - I upgraded to 24gb of 3200 RAM and added a 1tb NVME, and frankly it's been great, with very few complaints. Battery life could still be better - one day we'll get something like this machine that can stretch out 10-12 hours of battery, and it would be nice to have more definitive control over CPU clocks/TDP and whether to use the iGPU or dGPU, in Lenovo software. But the screen and build quality and power stuffed into a tiny chassis are unmatched at the prices these drop to eventually.

I think in general laptop manufacturers are straying away from the "gamer" aesthetic, because many customers generally don't buy gaming laptops *only* for gaming but also for school/work/productivity. College students or employees don't want to have to carry around a flashy RGB "gamer" machine to class or to a meeting, they want something more stealthy that doesn't make them look unprofessional.

@@martymcintosh5026 In person, the Legion logo isn't too gamer-y (both on the back of the screen and as the boot logo - UEFI thing). I mean I too would've preferred these two to be not gamer-y at all, just a plain old "LEGION" text (or just "Lenovo" but I get they have their reasons to switch it up a little) there but it really isn't to complain about. _For the record I have a Legion 5 2020 and I'm speaking based on that but the one in the video looks just the same to me._

I have the 7th generation model of this laptop, and I must say it's the best one I've ever owned due to its very good build quality. I opted for the i7 and 3060 variant, and even after a year of use, it still runs as smoothly and efficiently as the day I first opened it. The thing that I liked most is that unlike other gaming laptops, it doesn't have any unnecessary and cringy RGB lighting on the exterior. One major flaw of this laptop is its loud fans, which can become quite noisy even on the balance settings, let alone on the highest fan setting, making it inconvenient to use in quiet environments.

Lenovo is a company I never thought I would ever be recommending to anyone. In the midst of "gaming laptops" from the likes of Alienware, Razer, MSI, Asus, etc. Lenovo with its Legion brand holds its own with it's own design philosophy. I still remember when "The World's first 16" laptop" from Lenovo came out and during that time I had my eyes and mind set on the Ausus G14 and G15 laptops. I remember saying to myself how awesome it would be to have a GAMING laptop that looks NOTHING like a GAMING laptop. The icing on top was the fact that it looks so much cleaner than a razer machine (and I thought Razer was pretty damn clean) according to Dave2D and I found my self hopelessly agreeing. I am now a proud owner of the Lenovo Legion 5 with a 3070 and I haven't looked back since. I will definitely be looking into getting another Legion in 5 -10 years time once the new cooling solutions with vibration becomes a norm.

5:10 that is true thanks to Microsoft Precision. Synaptics is sometimes still there but it simply routes the driver to Windows and that makes the Experience way fluid even on sh*tty material. I can't wait when MS implement their RGB panel so we can ditch every proprietary drivers for mouse/keyboard etc. (i also hope they'll implement control over side mouse keys or fan profiles, but it won't happen anytime soon)

I actually have last year's model of this laptop with an i7, 3060, 16gb RAM and a matte 1080p screen and it has been an absolute pleasure to use since I got it. It's much lighter than my previous powerhouse laptop which only had a 1050 lol. The battery life could be better of course, but they give a few power options so I put mine on Hybrid-Auto mode, only uses the GPU when plugged in to maximize battery and that made it pretty decent. The ONLY complaint I have is the headphone jack being on the right side, which I saw in the video they changed with this year's model, and I just got very jealous lmao.

I do often see that 'switching the panel directly to the dGPU' on laptops that can do it, results in missing functionality (like HDR or most importantly, variable refreshrate). On a machine with a rtx3050ti 35watt (lowest of the 3000 series basically) I see none to very little performance difference, but having VRR between 48 and 120 makes all the difference in how it feels!. (And my laptop is wired in such a way that one of the USB-C ports is always connected to the dGPU, and the other always to the onboard graphics. If you know this, it helps when you connected an external display directly to the dGPU). But for the laptop panel itself, I always prefer to let it go through the intel-xe graphics. It makes all the difference for battery life if you don't game (Without having to restart) and as I said, VRR makes all the difference if it doesn't work on your dGPU (it often does not because of the LVDS connector I guess).

So it doesn't have two DIMM slots? Lenovo likes to put one on the underside of mobo and one on top (under the keyboard). Thanks for the review. Pricey but it looks like a good alternative to the insanely expensive T16p. This Legion looks much better than the previous ones. They were SO thick. I love the numpad but no pointing nub? Can confirm, full numpads are also good for gaming. Games that are keyed for both hands on the board (except for games with arrow key bindings) can benefit from binding to numpad. It can be wild at first and it looks weird when you list the bindings in the settings, but if you bind the numpad around how your hand naturally sits on it, it feels pretty great. Specifically for me, the numpad keys: 4 - index finger 8 - middle finger + - ring finger 0 - thumb (I leave my pinky resting to the side of the numpad because that's more ergonomic for me) with shifting your fingers to hit the alternate keys: 7 - shift your index finger up 9 - shift your middle finger right / - shift your middle finger up - - shift your ring finger up . - shift your thumb right Enter - tuck your thumb toward your pinky

The 4070M definitely should’ve had 10GBs of VRAM with a 160bit bus, since that would do a bit better. I dunno how the 115 watt mode compares to the 3070ti mobile, but hopefully it’s better.

Love that Lenovo are making their gaming laptops thinner but for me, personally, I play less demanding games and do programming tasks more than anything else. Even though I currently have a Legion series laptop, on the occasional when I game, I find laptop fan noise super annoying and want the battery life to last a significant amount of time: hence the Yoga series laptops has got my interest. Your recent review of the laptop being super thin and having a 4090 really made me want to go for it: but the price point is really high, and I'm not sure if it's currently available to UK peeps. So there's no rush, I'll wait until it goes down in price :)

Every time I go to Lenovo's website, I end up not finding the laptop you made a video about. All of their names are virtually identical. The Slim 7i (Gen 8) listed on their site has a 4060, not a 4070, and only 16GB of RAM, not 32. I did find a Pro 7i with the specs you listed, but that weighed 6lbs. The link in the description is for a 5i. Please ask Lenovo to make sure the product they sponsor a video about is actually readily available for purchase on their website.

As for the numpad thing... I don't know why I never see this mentioned when y'all talk about who wants to have one, but... for anyone who's spent any significant amount of time working retail, or other jobs where you regularly work a cash register, using the numpad is just straight up muscle memory, and reaching for it and it not being there is annoying as hell. It bugs me that so many nice mechanical keyboards are not available in a full layout.
