Quill really is the heart of the team that connects them all together here. James Gunn went on record to say that Rocket is the true protagonist of the GOTG trilogy, and while that has some merit, the first two movies are really more about Peter Quill's journey and how he crosses paths with those unlikely hero rogues and barely convinces them all to work together - never knowing that these people would ultimately become his new family. And Rocket slowly but consistently get more and more development along the way until he finally becomes the new protagonist that Peter saw fit to be the leader of the Guardians in his place. Quill is the first person to crack Rocket out of his stoic exterior, then Quill's father figure Yondu saw through Rocket's past and taught him to be a better person. Five years with Quill gone thanks to Thanos's snap forces Rocket to step up and become a more responsible person as he helps Nebula and the Avengers save the universe and bring his new family back. They both bring out the best in each other. All Guardian members do, really.

@@Chadcat180 Do explain how GOTG literally opens with young Quill watching his mother die and how he’s tormented by it even into GOTG vol. 2, and how the second film is all about Quill and his father figures being about Rocket? Rocket did get development over the previous films, yes, but the first two GOTG films are undoubtedly Star-lord’s movies first and foremost. Rocket only becomes the main protagonist in the third film.
@uzairahmed4197 Жыл бұрын
@@Willy2537 spot on. All this rocket is the true protag is bs. The second movie he was barely in it. Star lord was the main focus of the first 2 and even a heavy focus of the third. The whole trilogy starts with him running away and ends with him coming back home to his grandpa. Rocket became the leader because of his arc but quill is still the main character and thing that holds all 3 movies together. Its his arc that brings everyone together and allows them to grow.

Hits differently after GOTG Vol. 3
@Sovereign01 Жыл бұрын
Yondu: You can fool yourself and everyone else, but you can't fool me. I know who you are. Rocket: You don't know anything about me, loser! Yondu: I know everything about you. I know you play like you're the meanest and the hardest but actually you're the most scared of all. Rocket: Shut up! Yondu: I know you steal batteries you don't need and you push away anyone who's willing to put up with you 'cause just a little bit of love reminds you of how big and empty that hole inside you actually is. Rocket: (voice breaking) I said shut up! Yondu: I know them scientists what made you, never gave a rat's ass about you! Rocket: (tearing up) I'm serious, dude! Yondu: Just like my own damn parents who sold me, their own little baby, into slavery! I know who you are, boy, because you're me! (Beat) Rocket: ...What kind of a pair are we?
