For output/audio devices, my solution is to use NirCmd. Now I have one-click buttons in my task bar to switch audio from speaker to headset to VR set. I'm still searching for a similar solution for microphone changes though...

Is there is a video for it ?
@mrbigsmile3902 Жыл бұрын
@@zeux1 not as far as I know. NirCmd has general tutorials. The keyword is setdefaultsounddevice (I found that this works to set both speaker and microphones!). So: 1. Create NirCmd shortcut. Test if it works 2. Put in task bar 3. Give it a fancy icon

I'm about to start making some tutorials and I wish my voice were 1 tenth as soothing and instructive as yours. My thick accent isn't helping a hell of a lot either. I'm convinced you could make even something as mundane as peeling a potato, sound absolutely fascinating.

Great video! Since MS made it hard to get to this device panel, I dread needing to access the audio panel. Thanks for the awesome tip! Love it.

Win + R > ms-settings:sound, would do the same but it show the new modern windows setting.

Yeah, that new interface screen is not very helpful though. Doesn't allow you as much control. Possibly that was the point of it?

Why is Microsoft harassing us all the time? This mm.sys was easily accessible and had all essential controls in one place. No it takes me 20 mouse clicks and trial adn error to get into the place I was able too access by right clicking on a speaker icon before.

Have you tried right clicking the sound icon in the task bar and clicking the option 'sounds'? It brings up the sounds options in two clicks without having to navigate to the shortcut.
@HomebrewAudioRecording2 жыл бұрын
That is true. However, though it opens the correct window, the Sound tab is the one that comes up, which can be confusing (I think - it confused me) that just talks about the dings and beeps and tones of Windows program events. If you're looking for stuff about devices, you'll have to know to switch tabs. The way I've outlined above creates a single action from the desktop that takes you to the Window with the first (logical) tab of "Playback" open. That at least tells you you're in the right place for audio devices, unlike Program events. So yes, if you right-click on the speaker (one action), that brings up a selection of 4 available options. You have to know it's "Sounds" and not "Open Sound Settings" or any of the others. Then you have to click that, which is a second action. Things like this will always be a matter of personal assessment of what's difficult and what isn't. I just think selecting one thing (the shortcut) one time to get to where you want to go is the simplest and most direct. Less chance for confusion.

Hi Ken, I have another method I wanted to share with you. Create a text file with "run control mmsys.cpl" change to txt file extension to .ahk , compile with autohotkey and you will be able to add to windows 10/11 start menu.

Thanks David! I certainly would not have thought of that 🙂.

bro how TF I was supose to know that I needed to put small icon in controll panel to make a shortcut. Before that I literally search for it in system 32 , thats more logical. But I would like to know where it is in system 32 because I think it would help me have a button on raimeter that mute and demute "rear pink in" in speakers , to remove the background noise when I unplug my microphone that I do not need anymore.

I have a 64-bit Windows 11 system now. So I don't know the answer to that question. Sorry. I 'll take a look this afternoon and let you know if I see something.
