I bought Lil Troy's album Sittin' Fat Down South back in 1999 and there was a slip of paper that said if you send a snail mail fan request to Short Stop Records Lil' Troy himself would send back a signed autographed postcard. Sure enough he did. Very fuckin proud of it and I have it framed and hanging on my wall 22 years later. Much love, Lil' Troy! Peace✌

As a New Yorker, do you link this song to lil Troy or fat pat? Because lil Troy was a nobody and honestly as a houstonian I have no clue who he is. Fat pat and yungstar are the keys to this song. And HAWK at the end. It just bothers me that lil Troy gets the credit when he was a nothing and the Houston legends get no respect from this song because they aren’t the titled artist.

The south killed it with this joint, absolutely crushed it. New York and LA will always do big things for Hip Hop. But Li’l Troy and them struck Hip Hop gold. A timeless and literal classic. “Wanna be a Baller” is the best, it has been for decades now and it can stay right at the top. I don’t see it being beat.

I'm an older Dominos driver (30) and I can vouch... work it full-time, closing shifts as much as possible (PM and late-night rush within those 8-9 hours) and find one in a good area with non-shitty hotels = You can make 35-45k easy. Taking home $100 - 150 in cash tips after every close and that's not counting what you're getting on your paycheck for that day (around 90 bucks). And it's chill as hell if you have a smart/good GM at that particular store. Pretty shitty job if your GM is incompetent. Oh and all the free Dominos food you can handle (cut my monthly grocery bill in half). Didn't expect this comment on this song so I had to reply!

I'm 56. I searched for this when I realized I hadn't heard it in a minute after I had heard some of the chorus in a 2000z ? hip-hop/rap song. I don't know if this song was NOT transferred from Google Play Music. There have been so many; maybe there are still some that didn't transfer. It may be that this and possibly others had been removed by... 😞 Google does what it wants with their apps whether we want it or not.

0:32 hits and I’m instantly transported through time. It’s 1999, I’m young and completely carefree. The world is so much simpler, I’m joyriding around Tampa in a black Z-28 T-Top Camaro, bumping this song on burned CD-R made using Napster and Nero and playing on a trunk mounted 6 disc CD changer(remember having to pull over to change the the discs?), my CD book was expertly organized, I still owned a collection of cassettes and a Walkman, my friend had a PrimeCo Nokia but I still carried loose change for payphones, Internet cafés were fun places to hang, I rocked Etnies and Osiris and Jnco jeans( 🤦🏼♂️), and beanies in the summer. Life was good. LOL

This is beautiful. As I sit here (from Houston) reminiscing on the music from back in the 90s when I was in my own apt in my early 20s, when my best friend was still alive . Now I'm in my mid 40s, married and living in another country. Life is so different now, better actually. I don't miss Houston, a lot of pain there, but I do miss my friends who have passed on and just the good ole days.
@mahoganybrown93662 жыл бұрын
In contrast, I grew up in the South all my life. In early 98 I relocated to NYC to stay with my aunt. The two tracks bumping everywhere: Ruff Ryder's Anthem and later that year, Superthug. It's always memorable stepping into an environment so different from yours, good times!

@@jhova187 sorry to butt in but I totally agree with you! By brain went on a whole tangent on the topic when I saw two teens the other day that looked like they coulda been from a rough crowd in nyc way back in the 80’s. Doesn’t sound like much, but they were wearing leather, chains and had a hundred patches all over. They really stood out. When I saw them it hit me how nobody looks unique anymore, everyone is very plain and even people who go out of their way to look different still do it in this sort of aesthetically pleasing, mainstream way.
