The evolution of the game is amazing. The shot Hendry was nominated for here wouldn't be discussed for longer than 4 seconds today, as its become so standard in break building.

It's a joke of a shot by modern standards. That just shows you how much the game has evolved. Anyone who still thinks Davis and Hendry are a match for modern top dogs is clueless.

David Taylor. ( The Silver Fox) came to my club in Hessle in the 70s, but found the table pockets to tight for his liking and consequently didn't do right well. His trick shots though were very impressive.

Sadly Drago’s shot was cut, but I’d go for. 1st G… 2nd E… 3rd B… .. I really enjoyed watching Cliff Wilson back then, he was quick and a great long potter.. in 1981 Jack Karnehm wrote that Cliff was “probably the hardest hitter in snooker, and apparently, the last time he played a safety shot was in 1959.. and that was by mistake”…

Great player Steve James.Super attacking.Id credit him and players like David Roe that changed the way the game was played,Hendry kinda rode their coat tails and adopted the same approach but did it so much better.
@samharper58813 жыл бұрын
Agree, and I'd add Willie Thorne too, but he was particularly more attacking in the "among the balls" sense -- being willing to go for lots of little cannons to make the big breaks happen.

As I'm sure you read on Wiki, he won a ranking event (1990 Mercantile) and also beat Hendry 13-11 in the QF of Worlds 1991 when Hendry was current World Champion. He partnered David Roe in the World doubles and was an attacking player. @danbrooks35753 жыл бұрын
Agree. But I recall watching the match, and the explanation was that there were no balls in balk for Jimmy to hide behind if he played a safety. Considering how attacking Stephen also was, it was considered the right shot to play under the circumstances.

The reason why players don't always plays these type of shot is becuase they are small percentage shots, hence why Alex Higgins mostly lost to Steve Davis. Not being funny, Alex probably had to play more extravagant shots to make up for his poor positional play.
