I am planning to start a serie of rotational shot put Analysis on this web site. This first one will be featuring the Canadian Dylan ARMSTRONG who has a PB of 22,21m since 2011 and has been in the medals contenders of most major World competitions during the last 8 years. He is also representing to my eyes a certain type of rotational throwers , that I would eventually call the "American approach" of the shot put. Very strong throwers with big performances at the gym and relatively simple techniques. These throwers have been dominating the International scene since years but the performances are not progressing as more strength obviously do not result in longer throws after a certain level has been reached. Strength building is certainly the easiest way to reach the top but it is showing its limits. So, is it really the BEST and ONLY way ? When somebody wants to do better than the others, he will certainly not succeed by just copying them .In the contrary you have to go against the "accepted rules and truths" to find other approaches and make a better use of all the biomechanical possibilities of the rotational technique and a better orientation of the training of the muscular fibers toward contractile speed , not strength !. The "renovator" could have been Jacko GILL when he was under 19 with new technical options and a very specific speed/power conditioning , but unfortunately he was also lured by the "big body , big strength , big throws" mirage and has just turned now into another "American copy" . So we are still waiting for these changes to happen before we can see somebody going for the 23,50m and even 24m ! Because these performances are possible ! We maybe just need another Brian OLDFIELD !!! DP

I perfectly agree! to say the truth, I have noticed the changes in Jacko Gill and I thought... this is not Didier's work anymore! Thanks for the analysis. You are helping a lot of athletes and coaches around the world. All the best! Genz
