SHOT PUT Thomas WALSH 21,50m Vs Jacko GILL 20,21m Observations and Comparison

The same day (25 july 2015) at the opposite sides of the World , two New Zealand shot putters have achieved world class performances. In Mutterstadt , Germany, Tom WALSH improved his NZL record and PB to 21,50m. Tom is ranked 6th in the world and will certainly be one of the main contenders for the coming World championships in Beijing. In the same time in Auckland , in the middle of the New Zealand winter , his national rival , Jacko GILL , still the world junior record holder , threw the senior shot to 20,21m in a trial competition. Not his best performance so far (PB 20,75m) , but a positive result in regard of BEIJING where Jacko wants to get into his 1st World senior final. Both athletes are rivals since 2010 when Jacko , a Youth and Junior phenomenon, had the fastest start and was the 1st New Zealander to break the 20m mark just before getting 17y old. Then he changed coach and nearly stopped progressing until 2014 and achieved then a 20,75m PB in march 2015 . But in the same time , Tom WALSH star was rising more and more to get him become not only NZL number 1 but also one of the best throwers in the world , winning a medal at the last World indoor and being the first NZ thrower over 21m and now 21,50m ! It is quite interesting to compare their techniques in the present document , there are similarities but some of their technical options are quite different....but both successful , at some stage ! The story is not finished and could lead to two NZL throwers getting over the 21m line , or one of them over 22m ., or both ...etc...Obviously , there is a new generation of world class shot putters who looks to be better and more specifically prepared (not just weightlifters throwing the shot !) , with new technical developments and this could lead to the long expected breaking of a world record who is really up dated and smelling too much of magic potions !
