You ROCK.. subbed. 1:02 what's the brown stuff inside the rebar? How structural is this construction? Anybody know what mix he uses? How much sand to portland? I have this crazy idea... i own a property in central Florida and the soil is white sand. i'd like to build a cave house (partially under ground) using sand from the dig + rebar + portland. Can it be made water tight? Would it pass Florida Building codes as a dwelling?

Hi NoSunBeach. Thanks for the message. The brown stuff inside is burlap most likely though I sometimes use pegboard as well. The shotcrete mix is a 3000psi mix. So it's not a mortar mix of just Portland to sand. It has pea gravel in it as well... For your cave house I'd use shotcrete, (3000psi or greater) plus overlapping rubber liners, Aquablock XL and Miracoat Membrane C to address waterproofing, (waterproofing always being a challenge but especially for structures). For the engineering codes you would need to get help from an engineer knowledgeable in dome construction. He/She would be able to determine if it could pass the building codes I would think... So there ya go. Hope this helps. Anyway, be safe and stay well. Hi Ted, Thank you for the kind words. Also my apologies for not getting back to you sooner. Been recovering from a pretty challenging kidney transplant back in June. Still no where near able to work but trying to get caught up on emails etc. To your questions, without full project design plans it's pretty hard to price something out. But to use the "Lookout" project as a sample that one ran $28K and was within a commute to get to. Of course any out of state projects would incur travel, lodging, and perdium expenses. The trade name I would say is faux rock contractors, fake rock contractors, artificial rock contractors etc. Google around and you'll get quite a few different names... So there ya go. Do you need a permit to build a pool slide?

With new build pools in most if not all jurisdictions you need a permit. On existing pools I'm not sure. I've added slides to new pools numerous times and never gotten a permit. Good to check your local building codes though. 😎
