Spent my high school years blasting Shotgun Messiah in my Camaro! To this day I have a Shotgun Messiah poster on my wall. SKOLD's first solo album, to me, is the closest he came to capturing the epic greatness of "Violent New Breed", one of the coolest albums EVER. But everything he does is awesome and I'll forever buy and support everything he does. Amazing and rare talent. Harry Cody too, amazing!

Don't forget about "not my god" with Tim Skold and Nero Bellum (vocalist and programmer from Psyclon Nine). They make an excellent dark industrial duo. In fact, Nero Bellum's solo music is really cool. It's like ambient industrial mood music, lol. It's very satisfying.

Excellent retrospective of one of my favorite musicians of all-time! Discovered him as a kid when "Chaos" was included in the soundtrack to a video game I played and much later discovered everything from Shotgun Messiah to KMFDM and all of it is life-changing. Your signed copy of Second Coming is truly a worthy prized possession! "Don't Care About Nothin'" from the self-titled Shotgun Messiah influenced me to drop out of high school, decades after the 80's

music and band members are so intriguing to me. They sometimes go through so many fazes and may move on from one band to the next or even in multiple bands at the same time or solo at the same time..and sounds change and personalities,appearances,etc..Like you said, sometimes its hard to keep up with them..I also give PROPS to those who stay together for their whole careers.

@Drumdums Skold had a solo record out ( 96 ) after SM ended right before his few years ( 97-02 ) with KMFDM , MDFMK back to KMFDM and way before he joined Manson . His 1st song with KMFDM : Anarchy was a hit in the “ industrial “ clubs from the album “ symbols “ He became 1/2 the band and did their then “ far well “ record Adios before he and Captain Sacha K reformed with a 3rd singer ( Lucia ) under the MDFMK name ...this one is worth finding it literally has moments of uniqueness to it . Anyway I’ll stop ranting hope you enjoy .

@@DrumdumsOfficial yeah I misheard you when you said 4 or 5 Skold Records . Thought you said 4 . Anyway yeah he got a lot of notoriety from his MM days however he has a lot more work with KMFDM . I highly recommend people check out his work with them ..they had a good chemistry that IMHO they lack without him . Stand outs are the MDFMK record from 99/00 and the Skold Vs. KMFDM record from 09 songs like This is Now , Rabble rouser , Antigeist , All or Nothing where all so ahead of there time I’m hearing more main stream artists touching on it in 20/21 .

I couldn’t agree more. I’ve said for years Shotgun Messiah was the most underrated band of all time. Second Coming was the most underrated CD of all time. And Harry Cody was the most underrated guitarist of all time. I saw them at Sundance on Long Island on the Second Coming tour and saw them on the Violent New Bread tour at Spit in Levittown. Ironically enough that was the night Spit burnt down and closed down forever I believe. They didn’t disappoint both times. They were called Kingpin and something else I believe before Shotgun Messiah. I’m glad they decided on Shotgun. What a bad ass name. Thanks for sharing. Loved it

I got all three of their albums as they came out. Violent New Breed is by far my favorite. I don’t think I’ve listened to the first two albums in thirty years, but I still regularly listen to VNB. I saw them live supporting that album. Main thing I remember is the drummer played electronic drums. Just had minimal drum pads, which was so different from what you’d usually see live.

Hold on hold on. Now you've got this goth girl out here with her crop and editing pen... Before Skold was in Manson, he released a self-titled solo album which is EXCELLENT. To support that album, he did a short tour with the Genitorturers, and along the way met Sascha (KMFDM). Shortly thereafter, he joined KMFDM and was on the albums Symbols (which had the track Anarchy and is one of my favorite songs ever) and Adios. KMFDM then reversed shit and became MDFMK for one album. Members were Sascha, Skold, and Lucia (Drill). KMFDM came back and recorded Attak. Skold left the band at that time and joined Manson on Golden Age of Grotesque. Skold and Sascha later collaborated on Skold vs KMFDM in 2009. The entire album was recorded without them ever even being in the same country together. They just FTPed files back and forth with a couple of stipulations - no guitars, and no real drums. It actually turned out to be a pretty fun album!

Then, I got bored one day about two years ago and played it on my streaming service. Holy shit, I was blown away by how great it actually still is. The mix is better than most albums, even by today's standards. I certainly wish they had continued further with this heavy metal thing, kinda like Pantera did. I love those guitar solos.

The first 2 albums are decent but Violent new Breed is fucking brilliant...and Skolds solo catalog is solid as hell. I know a lot of straight metal guys hated their change of direction after Second Coming but it was the smartest move Skold and Harry Cody could have made because they have both had successful careers mainly due to VNB being a huge departure and jumping off point for them. They didn't get lumped into the bargain bin with all the other 80s 'Hair' bands (hate that term). I saw the second comig tour and the VNB tour and the VNB tour was far and away the better show. Been lucky to meet Tim a few times and just saw him again in 2019 and his live show kicks ass. Im sure the straight metal guys will disagree with me...but to each their own and Tim was very clear that he really sees VNB as his first REAL album that laid the ground work for his career. Harry Cody had done tones of work for TV and Film and is still active on social media etc. Great guys who deserve to be much bigger in the overall music pantheon

how come everbody on here believes Skold only put out 1 solo album??? he had the ST in 96, then he has Anomie, The Undoing, Never Is Now, Dies Irae, Dead God, and his brand new release last month called Seven Heads which is outstanding, he has a big catalog of solo albums as you can see, not to mention Skold Vs KMFDM and the EP Neverland

"Second Coming" and "Violent New Breed" are outstanding. IMO, both are top shelf albums. "Second Coming" is great start to finish with every song having the potential to be a hit. Always thought "Free" was an awesome ballad that sounds like it could have been a song used in a big Hollywood release like Top Gun or something similar. All of the rockers sound "huge" and with excellent production. "Violent New Breed" is the perfect blend of melodic hard rock and industrial. Like "Second Coming", this album sounds "huge" and hits like a freight train with the industrial crunch fused into the songs. Again - very little, if any, filler - solid release start to finish. It's part of my holy grail of 90's hard rock/metal albums that got buried in the changing scene. Damn shame this band never found a bigger audience. Their albums are heads and tails better than what many of their peers were doing.

Violent New Breed is that rare album that is amazing, yet it hurt the band because of it's change in approach and the time it was released. Record company didn't know what to do with it. I remember being in Denver when it came out an hearing the title track on the radio.

Humm, interesting, I think I'll have to buy that Violent New Breed album, that struck me nice. Don't think I could choose just 5, being a music nut as well as a cinema nut (I'm a lyricist after all). But if I had to try to h9onesty pick 5 "Define my life" bands it would be Chevelle, Judas Priest, Godsmack, LOVEBITES and Sum 41. (with Iron Maiden, 10 Years, Stevie Nicks and Doro Pesch having to be mentioned , see I knew I couldn't do it, And a whole bunch more..lol)

I even have a magazine cut out of Tim Skold on my artist board that I had back then(still have today). I thought he had fallen off the face of the earth and thought I was the only girl that thought he was attractive in that band HA! Have you heard of the band Pretty Boy Floyd? They were a bit of the same too. Thanks for the memories x

Industrial has been around a LOT longer than the early 90's. KMFDM goes back to the 80's and Throbbing Gristle was in the 70's. I missed the Shotgun Messiah era, but started following Tim Skold at the time of his first solo album. I avoided him during the Manson years and he was a highlight of the 2022 FLA tour.

I remember the first Shotgun Messiah album had a stencil of the band logo in the sleeve. BTW, Shout It Out was on that album, not Second Coming. When Second Coming came out I was painting an old lady's house for some cash, while playing Second Coming on my boom box. With everyone having different tastes, Violent New Breed was a disappointment. It just wasn't for me. It was interesting to discover Tim Skold once played with Marilyn Manson. Another band that wasn't for me, but I still think it's cool though, that he was with that band.

You skipped a ton of his career. After Shotgun Messiah split he did a solo album, he's played with KMFDM for a few albums, MDFMK for their one and only album, he had a second (unfinished) solo album get leaked online that still hasn't had an official release, and he has a second band along side his current solo stuff called Not My God. And his solo stuff is 100% him. All the instruments, the singing, the mixing ECT is him by himself. In my opinion he's the single most talented musician alive today.

Everybody was saying how they "chased what was trendy" or something like that... I never understood that. I like bands that evolve and change (Queens of the Stone Age is one that comes to mind...) I mean how interesting are bands like motley crue, poison and ratt nowadays really? still sings about the same things they did when they were in their 20s... I applaud Tim & Harry for not doing that reunion that Zinny San Bosse wanted to happen. ZinnyBosse and the drummer did it anyway under the name Shotgun. Search for it if you like reunions with an obese 55yearold singing about how he doesnt care about nothin' and how school are for fools... Don't get me wrong I love the first album too, but it belongs in that time... would like a reunion album with Tim and Harry though... Cody is a special guitarplayer that should be heard on vinyl (preferably) again. Someone commented that Violent new Breed was a bad NiNcopy... well he kind of missed the inventive solos on that album...
