We have learned that the manufacturer's tolerances are near enough is good enough :D It would be interesting to check to see if the really expensive shot shells are close to being right on point or if its just inconsistent across the board due to the manufacture processes. Also, I love the Number 4 Winchester 1500fps XS stuff, it's only a few bucks a box more expensive but perfect to ensure a clean dispatch if you are hunting. And a bit more recoil is fun.

Thanks for your comment! I'm hoping to continue this series by looking at a couple of specific brands and loads and compare the various standards and tolerances, and also try to come up with some kind of standardised test to see how well they all perform. The next couple of videos will be looking closer at the Winchester Defender and Eley VIP Steel range, so stick around for that!

I can assure you there is plenty of time wasting, gibbering, and boganspeak involved in the production of my videos - I just cut it out in the editing stage. Thanks mate; I appreciate it :)

Hey black stump recently been look for a scrub gun and have my eye on the ba-x12.. although i would like the option to shoot some clay targets with the fellas if the occasion arrises.. i hear the are finicky with target loads but i do hear there are certain loads they can handle.. Could you please tell me a brand, shot size and ft/s cartridge that would Work well with the bax12 that would work?

For heavier hunting loads, the Bushmeister is just fine, but they are a bit hit-and-miss when it comes to lighter target loads. I touched on this a bit on an earlier video, kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZy9ZGmnoq9grs0 , but I haven't done any testing since. The Winchester Super Target 28g 1250fps I have doesn't always cycle the action of my 20" model, but I have heard that the same 28g load at 1290fps+ works well. Shot size doesn't really matter for the Bushmeister (... that's what she said), as it has an inertial operating mechanism; the force cycling the action is the same as that accelerating the shot from the barrel, and is a product of mass and velocity. Newer Bushmeisters, and 28" models, might have an easier time with light target loads; mine is one of the "old pattern" Bushmeisters. There is so much choice out there when it comes to button-release and lever-release shotguns now, and I'll hopefully get a chance to compare a few different models in the near future, but I'd expect pretty much any standard load (28g or more) at a velocity of over 1300fps to work just fine with a new Bushmeister. Thanks for the question!

What Winchester rounds do you think would cycle a semi auto shotgun reliably? Fps wise

Honestly, that's a tricky one to definitively answer as there are so many potential factors that could be considered. Short answer is I don't know, and will probably never even be able to test this due to local gun laws. Simplest answer would be to just buy a box and shoot it - if your shotgun is in good working order and the shot is fairly normal it will probably work just fine. But, long answer time. Leaving aside recoil and straight blowback shotguns, your shotgun probably either has a gas mechanism or inertial mechanism. A gas mechanism can probably run anything in theory, and any issues encountered would likely have more to do with the firearm than the shell (assuming you're shooting factory loads). The main potential for issues here would come with inertial mechanisms, as the force required to operate the mechanism is technically the product of the weight of the shot and the velocity, and not just the velocity. For plain ol' lead hunting shot this wouldn't normally be much of a concern, but potential issues could arise when using target or steel loads, as these generally contain a lower weight of shot. That all being said, I own a lever-release inertia shotgun, and whilst I did initially have issues running target shot through it it has loosened up nicely since. Videos on how it improved over time can be found here kzbin.info/aero/PLgE7hSsAMD5kgD0dwPAXyWcz1NNvHN39I . It runs well with 28g/1oz loads at ~1200fps now, but some of the videos in that playlist show potential failures that I have encountered in the past. Sorry I couldn't help more, but good luck!
