Thanks for the comment! I'm currently planning to do a new version of this video once the "Odyssey" expansion is complete. I'll be using the PC version of the game as that's what I'll be playing but I do intend to explain things in a way that will be applicable to the console versions as well if possible.

Excellent video, my friend and I struggled to get this to work for hours yesterday and it seemed to be completely random whether it worked or not, frequently dropping out of cruise multiple Ls away if the other got inderdicted meaning I (or him) had to go back into supercruise to go help the other, really frustrating, we'll give this a shot next session, because neither of us is very interested in playing this solo other than some space trucking for money.

Thanks for the comment. I'm currently in the process of evaluating Odyssey with the intention of making a new video to replace this one that would cover the current state of playing with friends and some other tips for new players. I can't say for sure if and when that video will happen as I'm still figuring out the logistics of it but at the moment, I think it's likely as I've been intrigued by and enjoyed what I've seen of Odyssey so far for the most part.

I touch on this in the video but basically you need to be in the same star system as the other person in your wing (group.) Then you both go into super cruise and you should be able to see each other. After that, when you jump to a new system or drop out of super cruise, the game should automatically keep you in the same instance/shard. It's been a while since I played, so things might have changed since then but that's what I recall.

As I recall, there's a device (I think it's called an interdiction device) enemy ships can use to try to pull you out of super cruise. When they try that, you have to either keep a circle in the center or away from the center of the screen- can't remember which, for a bit to keep yourself from being pulled out. It's like a little mini game. You can also buy one of those devices and fit it to your ship to use against other ships but you may get fined for having/using it in certain star systems. Again, been a while since I played so I'm not totally sure about all that. :).

heh - Yeah. I know it looks bad. A little explanation: This video was done live in a single take with no editing. At the time, NVIDIA's ShadowPlay recording tech was still pretty new and there were some issues with it working properly in various games with various GPU driver versions. It just so happened that on the day this video was recorded, a new GPU driver had been installed, which is why you see a lot of the stuttering and dropped frames in the video. A variant of that was also happening in game as I was recording, which led to a few minor problems like me crashing into the station, and having difficulty finding my friend. Normally, even back then, I would have edited that stuff out but another side effect of ShadowPlay at the time was that the video files it generated weren't compatible with the editing software I was using, so I had to either accept the minor issues or re-record the whole thing, perhaps waiting to resolve the technical problems, which the next GPU update about a week later fixed. In the end, I decided that it was better to get the video out more quickly with a few minor issues, as there were (and apparently still are) a lot of people struggling to make co-op work in the game. Little did I know that it would end up becoming the most popular video on my channel bu that's just how things go sometimes. :) In the end, I'm happy with the overall result despite the head scratching moments in it.
