Those diamond cut pads for the motors are a great idea ! its going to make it much easier for new comers, itll help keep them from bridging the pads when solder on motors, these guys now what they are doing ❤❤❤❤

Increasing the voltage will decrease the amperage for the same amount of power so me thinks 8S is actually easier amp wise on the fetts. More voltage is certainly the future. On my 8S quad I initially couldn't use 16khz-byRPM but after tuning I ended up needing a lot less D gain then I would on 6S. Once the P/D was sorted I was able to use 16khz-byRPM. I didn't have to adjust ramp up power etc but I am running 1600KV 2207's.

i run 48khz to 128khz. the "by rpm" setting lead to extreme motor heat on both 8s quads. no idea why, but ive seen other people have that issue.

This isn't quite true. You have to change the motors to reduce amps and reduce RPM. If you use the same motor and props, and spin it with more voltage, it will consume more current. If you reduce max power so that the RPM is the same as 6s, yes, it will consume less current, but the battery weighs more so usually this is a net negative on 5in.

50v or higher cap would be preferred for 8s. And those prop tips are probably getting to transonic speeds. 1860kv on 8s is like 61-62k rpm, 1300 ft/s + tip speed. I'd put a motor output limit (not throttle limit) on there to keep them closer to 50k theoretical max rpm. Like 81%

i had better results with lower output limit (to about 1500kv) and higher pids versus higher limit and lower pids. but thats also a matter of build and taste. supernovas get super fucking hot while the xing motors dont at all at the same effective KV. chris rosser mentioned to me that the best performance is likely through using 2207 motors, but efficiency will suffer vs bigger natively lower KV motors. i can tell, flight time are garbage on my severely overpowered and quite heavy quad :D everything else is amazing. (i run 1300mah 8s on 4.9 inch, and even tried double lipos + 5.2inch, which tbh is awesome)

Good review, was fun to watch the testing. Also more voltage more better, because its so much easier on the ESC and you can run thinner lighter cables as well, higher voltage systems are more efficient in most ways. The same move is happening in cars, all systems are rising in voltage (other than random little things like your dashboard or speakers, but the reason for that is that all those parts are designed for 5 or 12 volt, and it would cost too much money to redesign all the parts and rebuild the assembly lines. But things that get redesigned every car, like engines and batteries, are all being branded as "mild hybrid" by companies like BMW, but it really just means higher voltage systems that are more efficient. 12 volt is only the standard because a long long time ago, that was the cutting edge of tech, and since we standardized there we have just never moved on.) Anyway, you mentioned rotor riot rampage in the middle, does that mean you are going? YO I JUST NOTICED, wait sorry this is an edit but I saw a pair of HD800S on your desk, hello fellow audiophile! Didnt know we had that in common too, but thats awesome, I use a pair HD600, just love the Senheiser sound its so great.
@JevinW
@JevinW 5 ай бұрын
Ya when it comes to software 8s voltage just isn’t standard for 5in at least yet. I do believe higher voltage has a purpose for larger drones but 6s really seems like the sweet spot for 5in imo. But ya man so there actually hd700s, not rich enough for hd800s haha. I was in a phase where I was like how good does premium quality headphones sound and next thing you know I had them haha. A bit much of treble but some software tweaking helped. But that’s dope you’re into that, was interested in the 600 series since they’re newer.
@arial_01
@arial_01 5 ай бұрын
@@JevinW Gotcha that seems like a good take on 8s V 6s. For the headphones, yah 800s are so expensive, but i have been thinking about a second hand pair for a while. As for the 600s, they are considered the best for neutral balance mastering headphones, and have been that way since they came out. That being said, they are just the tinyist amount too little bass, and their imagine is not as good as 800s. That being said, their imaging is still quite good, and their base is still there for sure, its just very separate from the mids and highs (although not as much as an electrostatic headphone.) If your priority is raw sound quality and percisely reproducing the sound that was recorded by the microphone as closely as possible, then the HD600 is the only way to go. That being said, the HD6XX by Drop is about half the price and 90% of the performance, so look into those, you can find tons of reviews comparing the two of them. That being said, investing in a good amp and dac can make an even bigger difference if you are using a bad one right now; yah the audiophile rabbit hole is pretty deep.
@JevinW
@JevinW 5 ай бұрын
Ya I already spend too damn much on drones, then again don’t we all lmao. But ya I believe it when it comes to sound quality, you’re really dishing out a premium for that 10%. But as for the 700s what do you think of them, are the 600s any better? Probably gonna be late to respond, at rampage rn and the signal is butt, haha

As I heard on full throttle it has a bit strange sounds, I had the same, It worth to add more capacitors on 8s, I have an octo 5" 8s, it's like 1sec to 220kmh~ I had to add two capacitors / esc to reduce the electrical noise enough, and removed this strange noise on full throttle. Btw neutron rc has a 8s 60A aio, I just ordered one, it will be crazy in a light frame :D Update: I see byrpm issue comments below, more caps solved that problem too. A cheap way to build 8S and still stay with premium electronics… 1. Foxeer’s newest 8S 55A esc for $36 2. HolyBro 8S Flight controller; F7 is $39 and their H7 with BT is $64. I’ve been running this above stack and it’s been working perfectly. Lastly, if for some reason you really want the 65A esc, hakrc makes it for $55 and it looks like the foxeers 65a twin.

@@JevinW check quadmula 3D STL files for their double Cap print. That fits most frames and use shrink tubing on the legs to 16awg wire to battery pad. If you use a self-powed beeper, try designing a 3D part from the battery plugin and run it down to your buzzer pad and wrap the battery wires and beeper wires with braided tubing of your choice. I find it to be ideal on the battery plug cause most frames can't fit a self-powed buzzer in the frame so I compromise to put it where I can always disarm the buzzer a lot easier.

First off your motors are way too high kv. On 8S and 5 inch it should be maximum 1600kv. Try motor output limit to 86 percent. You can also test these ESC settings: Demag compensation HIGH PWM low 24khz PWM high 48khz Motor timing 23 Got four 8S builds so far. All sizes 5 to 10 inch. Comparing the 5 inch 6s vs 8s back to back, the 8S doesn't really habe that much of an advantage to be honest. The amp draw is less than on the 6S and voltage sag is much less. Speed and acceleration is pretty similar. Only my 6S lipos get beaten so bad from the high current draw. The 8S lipos feel like power all the way though. But maybe 8S is only 10% better. Hard to say if you're not measuring racing lap times. Where 8S shines is on my bigger 7, 8 and 10 inch builds. These bigger 8S boys fly nearly 200kph top speed for a 7 or 8 inch. The acceleration is awesome.
@chrisbee5481
@chrisbee5481 5 ай бұрын
My 5" 8s used xnova 2208 1500kv motors. Maximum burst amp draw is like 115A. My compareable 5" 6s has 2208 1950kv and has 150A max. So if you do the math: 115A x 3,3V x 8S gives you 3036 Watt in total. 150A X 3V x 6S gives you 2700 Watt in total. So you can say they are pretty close with only about 10% less power. Only difference is the 6S lipos sag much lower on full throttle. Thats why I calculate 3V on 6S under voltage sag. 3.3V on 8S under voltag sag. Both my 5 inch I'm talking about here are racers. Top speed is pretty similar like 230 kmh on tri blade.
