Are the motors/ESCs coming down cooler because of the lower current going through them? That could be a real benefit of pushing to higher voltages/cell counts: you can spin the props substantially faster without burning things up. I'm not sure what the benefit of doing _that_ would be, but there very well could be one. Maybe putting on a throttle curve that has a big jump at/toward full throttle so you keep low-mid throttle resolution but have the ability to pull out of any dive? Something to think about...

The motor windings are really fine wire. You’re putting more power through the motor with higher voltage but less amperage, that’s why you can get away with higher effective kv.
@dilbertmcfly5986 Жыл бұрын
Technically, can even do 10S, but 12S 50.4V is pushing it. More cells, more packaging weight. The MP9943 5V reg commonly used on FC supports up to 36V. Most FET used in ESC are only rated 30V. But there are 40V and 50V options. 12S would mean around 900KV which is much thinner winding with 3x the turns of 4S.

Sounds like it's time for you to grab a pair of Dji Goggles, their RC2 remote and any dji 03 compatible quad.. I started with the DJI FPV Combo, was super great for learning how to fly after first practicing in a simulator(Step 1), putting at least 36 hours in... Now I'm practicing low level and indoor flying with a 2 inch/4s CineON C20 V2/Dji03. The Dji FPV makes you a cautious/safe pilot because if you crash that's ur ass(and some cash)! The avg cost of repair is $80-$100, no need to bother with DJi Care. Any other 2s,4s or 6s quad is practically indestructible compared to the Dji FPV, but I would have never even gotten into the hobby if it wasn't for the DJi FPV, for sure... It is probably the best introductory FPV Drone on the market... In addition to its safety features, it also has normal and sport mode so you can fly it just like your mini 2 until you master manual/acro mode.

On my smaller 3-4” 8S quads I use the HGLRC Zeus 50A PRO ESC 20X20 On my bigger 5” 8S quads I use the Foxeer Reaper F4 Mini 60A 20X20 And my 6” 8S quads use the Foxeer Reaper F4 65A 30.5mm Haven’t tried any other ESCs, gonna have to pick up the T-motor. Also obviously T-motor provided the gear… 8S FCs exist from Foxeer, Kakute, and SPRacing, that’s what I mostly use when lazy… BUT I definitely recommend external BECs for powering everything anyway. This was a great build, way over batteried but still. I run WAY lighter cells and no GoPro, but there is more than one way to do things obviously… would have been easier to tune with less weight too. Battery wise I mostly use two 4S batteries, as honestly they don’t need to be the best quality racing cells like when you are running 4S or even juicy 6S. Most my batteries are 450-650mAh the smallest is a 70 gram 300mAh 8S pack for a 3” and I generally use 1050mAh for the biggest cells. I have one 6” bi-blade chase quad that I use the Tattu V5 1200mAh cells and make my own packs, but I generally deal with Dogcom, and occasionally CODDAR and GNB. Most of my chargers are 6S max, so keeping the batteries split makes it much easier to charge large amounts of packs at once. I have been doing this for a while and have it down pretty good. If anyone needs help I can share my experience. 8S is fun and all but especially in a small space it’s very unnecessary, I just did all those builds for the LoLs, don’t get me wrong they are great, but especially on sub 5” nearly impossible to tune. Your props, motors, and the build in general needs to be perfect, definitely not for a basher, stick to 6S for bashing, that’s what I do. If you are not comfortable tuning, please don’t do this, you will likely lose your quad the first time out. Learn this first. Winding your own motors is definitely recommended or you’ll have to run a motor limit. Happy flying! And great episodes! And thank you T-motor ❤

I'm interested to see current (Amperage) draw comparisons of 4S, 6S, 8S with equivalent RPM motors with respect to their voltage. I bet we'll see that using less current with higher voltage is the key to better efficiency and more realized gains in performance. You may also realize that with higher voltage, you can get away with using smaller gauge wire and probably less expensive electrical components (mosfets, diodes, etc.). By the way, I'm pretty sure a smaller farad, higher voltage capacitor would've given you ample filtering. A 330-450 microfarad 50V capacitor probably would've been plenty.

In my humble opinion, a line has been crossed. There is a point where you have to accept that building for lightweight does not translate past a certain amount of weight and power. Much like a Lotus is no longer a Lotus once a V8 has been dropped into it, but a Bugatti can handle the weight and power of a bigger powerplant with poise and grace. Go 6" to make better use of the power.

More blades can always suck the power. And when you have 20 blades and the tips go supersonic you just add a duct to keep the blades from biting off more than they can chew. The duct in a turbofan regulates flow to pitch speed to keep AoA small and alleviate wave drag (typical tip speed is 1300 fps). IMHO you could put over 100 HP into a 5 inch fan before you'd truly need to upsize the diameter.

I think this would definitely benefit from similar settings for throttle on Joshua Bardwell's video on tiny whoops and the type of non-linear throttle control when used in "tiny spaces" for mini-whoops. Because, as we can see this drone is clearly running out of space though, you could still have the mega punch on throttle that this drone so desperately has over the rest! But, it would have a much better consistency to a 6s and even a 4s on linear throttle control for more precise movements.

Just run a pack which has 16 thinner cells instead of 8 at whatever size these are. So you have an, (8 series 2 parallel, 8s2p) pack. Then you have redundancy built in.
