No. Drinks shouldn’t be banned. Drunks should, but in the same way airlines do. Get blacklisted from one course and your name is shared with all the courses in your county / state and you’re done with them all.

What? People are driving golf buggies while drinking alcohol?? Here in Sweden it’s just as illegal to drive a golf buggy as it is to drive any other vehicle if you’ve been drinking. And it doesn’t matter if you’re only driving it on he golf course, it’s illegal wherever you drive it. So, if you’re found driving a golf cart and you have more than 0.02% alcohol in your system (which is basically like half a beer for an average man, less for a average woman) you will most likely lose your drivers license, or worse. I wonder if it’s actually legal in other countries, or if people just do it anyway?

I would guess in many countries you’re not in the public highways, it’s off road and private grounds. However should you have an accident / cause injury having had a drink you know who will get the blame

Courses here in america have kart girls selling booze the whole time. If they stopped selling alcohol at a course ppl wouldn’t play it here. A lot of ppl sneak there own booze on to courses but u gotta be smart about it lol. Drive a kart all u want intoxicated no one has ever said anything about it lol, it’s normal then most ppl get in there car and drive home.

I don't drink at all so this wouldn't effect me. But over serving has a ton to do with it most courses don't have any way to tell how much one person has bought with there being multiple cart girls and then getting drinks at the turn. They should have a system that would make it so you can tell how much someone has had. I can't tell you how many times on a weekend I've been paired with someone who just keeps getting hard liquor and can barely walk by hole 16.

I'm not a killjoy and I like to party and have fun at least as much as most folks but I rarely drink on the course, as the game is hard enough to play sober, let alone impaired -- and I respect the game too much. I'll have a beer afterward and sometimes, at a charity scramble tourney, I'll have a shot or two and a beer, etc, but I'm much more about abstinence on a golf course. Also, yes, I usually walk the course so most of the beer is flat within a hole or two and spilling from all the bouncing around on my push cart so I don't get to enjoy much of it anyway. Yeah, I could shotgun the beer but there's plenty of time for that off the course. I was in a league about 5 years ago that played on my favorite local course where they'd just gotten a fleet of brand new buggies for the season. One of the teams rolled one over into the trees, going too fast down a hill, and the two guys had to go to the ER, buggy was totaled. They, like most of the league, were drinking pretty heavily that night. The course banned our league and we had to jump to another course that I don't like, where we finished the season. I didn't re-join the league after that. Not a fan of the Beer League, I'm trying to improve my game!

Bob Does Sports is a good example of what NOT to do with alcohol on the golf course. I stopped watching them because their content became too much about partying and boozing and less about playing golf and making good content.

While my club (USA located) allows alcohol on the course, I seldom encounter someone drinking while playing and never so during comps, Those that do drink while playing a casual round are discrete about it.

My home course had a problem with tournaments/non members damaging the carts (often tied to excessive drinking). So this year they started a new system. Those in the cart have to give name and credit card info and sign a waiver to any damage. It has drastically cut down on the amount BS happening to the carts. Except the one that someone crashed and wrote off. But the club had their credit card so swipe and see ya.

Drinking in moderation while on the course shouldn't be frowned upon. Filming yourself drinking excessively with three other guys reaching a combined audience of over 3,000,000 people, essentially encouraging the behavior, well, that might be frowned upon. It wasn't this bad until social media and "influencers" starting making it mainstream and appear acceptable.

If banning alochol on the course was started in the beginning, we would of not had golf courses or players....That being said, on my course no Alochol is allowed on the course and in the club house we only serve beer and wine....along with soft drinks....

I’m a fairly decent player (low single figures) and have found only sh!t players drink during the round so if you are sh!t and need to drink to enjoy it don’t bother playing and just go to the bar

Prestigious golf probably. Or at least drink minimums so you aren’t intoxicated and making an ass of yourself. However at less prestigious courses all is fair. Beer golf is a very popular and fun variant of the game. You should still drink responsibly though.

After a round yes in the club support your club as long as you’re not driving. Def think it’s an Americanism that’s ruining this world for rest of us

Sorry Rick, I disagee with you on this point. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to drink in excess on a golf course. A beer or two is okay, but when they get so "drunk" that they can't drive the cart or worse have to get in their car and drive home it's way too much. If you can't hit golf balls without a drink in your hand, then best to stick to Top Golf or something like that. I know I'm showing my age but golf is a gentleman's sport and some kind of control is necessary. Anything else and you risk runing another player's day. Yes, Guy I thinking drinking on the course is an America export that we're not proud of.

@@kylehammerness8814 In Ontario its a certification you need to get in order to serve alcohol including using the green yellow and red chart to monitor and limit sales so people do not get trashed. In this case the person selling booze from the cart needs to keep track and look for signs if the patron is drunk or not. Not drunk means green and okay to sell. a bit tipsy means yellow and suggest something to eat or water between the next drink. Red means drunk and no more booze for them.

I’m a big believer of the beer plateau. A beer or two settles the nerves and helps my game, but one too many and it falls off a cliff. The same phenomenon is true in pool and darts. If you keep drinking after that on a golf course then you’re an asshole.

drinking and driving is dangerous. a term I've learned for events is "discreetly damp" which basically means you can drink as long as you don't call attention to yourself in the process.

I'm gonna be a party pooper and say yes, I'd welcome it. If you can't play a round of golf without drinking, your an alcoholic and should probably seek help. That aside, its not safe for the person (do they drive home after?) Its not safe for the course or course equipment (buggies etc.) and drunken yob 4 balls slow up play massively, because they can't see straight or play well. Don't get me wrong, I love a pint after a round, but I'm here to play golf - not party or suffer/babysit drunkards! 😂

I have many joint and back problems along with some kidney issues. My doctors feel that one beer over 2 hors in the middle of a round is less of a problem then the pain meds that I would have to use. That one beer for me takes the edge off and I decide during the round if I need it. That's is why I drink one to two beers and no other a month. I only walk when I play golf but that may have to change soon and then no beer.

Nothing better than an ICE cold Beer and hitting a pure iron shot on the green. Remember we play to play golf not the other way around. the answer is no, however, like anything else, you can have a good time on the course and not overindulge. A couple beers per nine, enjoy the day, enjoy the course, play as good as you can, and revel in it. Guy is right though, it can be an American thing, I've played in a few outings over the years where 30-40 people take over the course, and some get out of hand. It always makes for a good story.

There’s a difference between having a couple beers during a round and getting 💩faced! Drunk driving of golf carts, as well as play itself can become dangerous! In all my years of golfing however, I have seldom seen anyone who was “drunk” to that point of being a hazard to themselves and others. I have seen golf carts get damaged because of horse play occasionally.

I'm sipping on some brew through my entire round, its part of the experience with the lads. A fresh Guinness in the cart, sip for a good shot, sip for a bad shot. But I'm enjoying the beverage, not chugging them down. I have at most 2 beers per 9 holes, and I suck so I'm not getting through 9 all that fast.

It is up to the courses and marshals to let people know to enjoy the tourney responsibly and that people who aren't normally golfers understand course etiquette. Getting home safely should be arranged by the tournament organizers. Alcohol can be consumed responsibly in a number of different events....just make arrangements for a safe ride home!

People need to be responsible when drinking while playing golf, not only for the course but also for leaving the course when driving, my job in the UK involves me coming in to contact with people that drink and drive, It would be very easy to loss your licence or even kill someone after drinking, no license no job or golf, and no freedom if you kill someone. The key word is responsible and unfortunately some people are not responsible.

Golfing in the states is tricky. Especially on weekends. Half the crowd are there to enjoy the sport and legitimately try to improve or at least take it seriously. The other half are there to get drunk and party. It’s difficult to ask those two crowds to share a space.

Personally, I don’t drink alcohol while I’m playing. I don’t think it has a place on the course. I don’t see how clubs could really enforce a ban on drinking on the course. If they stopped selling it at the pro shop, people will just bring their own which is unlikely to end well. Selling beers in the pro shop is also a good money maker for clubs already struggling. I’m all for drinks in the clubhouse post round. As far as this example of a corporate day causing thousands of dollars damage to the course, clubs can take a significant amount as a holding deposit or bond. In the event of any damages, the bond is not returned in full or at all. Bet you’d see a reduction in these few dick heads ruining it for everyone.

Honestly, if you banned drinking on the course it would only make a huge difference come tournament time in America. I honestly don’t know anyone who gets carried away on a regular golf day, but I have seen plenty go off the deep end during corporate tournaments. I could possibly understand a ban, or a limit on those days, but to take it away from all golf seems extreme. Just my opinion.

Shouldn't be banned but golf etiticate should be inforced by the clubs. If you can't maintain that then you should be removed from the course. I love a beer or 5 after a round and I don't mind if people are drinking on the course but it gets out of control. I fancy it's an american thing that social media has introduced to the UK game. Played with an American guy who said that that people are on the packets now whilst playing a round in west coast USA!? Playing mid day in Wales on the weekend is a nightmare on a lot of courses in summer, lads playing 5 balls hanging off the back of buggies with tesco bags of booze... it's out of hand.

I have visited a number of golf courses over the years and found discarded beer bottle tops and cans strewn around instead of using the waste bins provided. The most annoying is the metal beer tops thrown on the fairway and light rough which must play havoc with the greenkeepers cutting machinery. Needless to say I have avoided joining any of these clubs .

Totally agree, litter drives me mad people happy to lug around a 4 pack of drinks both soft and alcoholic yet cannot carry the empties or put them in the bins around the course. Same with wrappers for snacks etc. it’s easy enough to hit a wild shot when sober never mind when drink impairs things. Like Most things though moderation is OK, overdoing it is not

Live in the south of Portugal… And I am about to leave the course where I am a member because we can’t stand the drunk people on the course. Beer cans everywhere, people fighting because slow pace, no respect of the étiquette, loud music, 5 balls… it is a nightmare for us locals. Even the Marshall can’t do anything as he is alone in front of 4 completly drunk guys. But beers bring a lot of money to the club…. These people are not here for the Game. They are here to party with their friends!
