Both of my parents work 9 to 5 jobs. They leave together in the morning and arrive home together in the evening. Their salaries are also almost equal. But the difference is that my mother wakes up at 5, cleans the house, makes breakfast, washes the dishes, does the laundry, sweeps the floors and packs everyone's lunch. And at nine o'clock, my father always fights with her for not being ready on time, not considering that she had to put every single thing in order in our chaotic household before leaving. In the evening as soon as they come home, my father lays down and asks for tea. My mother makes him tea, cooks dinner, cleans the bathrooms, washes the dishes and does the other million things that none pays attention to except her. My father is not a sexist idiot, but he is an oblivious idiot. He has no idea of how much my mother makes his life easier. While he helps my younger brother with his schoolwork and home work, it is nowhere close to how much my mother works, despite being on her feet all day teaching. Their financial contribution is almost equal. My mother cooks everyday, but when once in a blue moon, my father makes something, everyone suddenly goes ga-ga over him. I have only recently started to notice how sexism permeates every aspect of our lives. The worst part is that my mother thinks its her duty to not complain.

You should be happy that at least your father sometimes makes something here's my father who don't even know how to make tea properly and once when my mom at 3 pm finished her work and was going to bed to have some rest as it was holiday he asked her to make tea at 3 pm I was like are you serious? And when she said why don't you see I'm tired let me rest I'll make after 1 hr or you can make now he got mad at her and ignored her for 2days because it hurts his ego that how the hell his wife can deny him (seriously?) and also when my uncle from neighbors house do household chores my father say he's just joru ka gulam. Although my father is not that toxic or as you said not that stupid but still he is and my parents are the reason why I won't marry ever. Not because they are bad they love us so much try to pass jokes whole day so we don't feel bore but still sometimes his doing gives me a hard time and that's the reason being older child of family I started helping mom at very young age and still I always help her in all household chores not because she force me but I feel bad for her

Why can't everyone share the workload both inside (housework, kids, in laws) and outside (money) the home? Inequality will remain as long as men enjoy unpaid labour from women.

As if men are careless beings of society and don't contribute any economic value the family. As if they are mere bread winner only and nothing else. not like they stay away from family alone and go through sorrows alone many times. Should noble Gentlemen also get paid for the values, virtues and care they give for their family. What return should a noble Gentlemen deserve if he doesn't owns any wealth but works 10hrs hard enough to make needs of his family are met on time where in 24 hrs of day he barely stay 4 hrs with family ?

Those who are golrifying how men provide us money and home, so please ask them why they restrict their wife to work? to get job? It's not women deny to do job most of the time, but double burden, taunt from society, unequal work paid compel us to do so. I saw most men having gf who thinks freely have job and ambition, but when it's time to get settle, suddenly, they want homely sankari girl to carry household work and take care their parents. If homemakers are paid, many people would start using this as en excuse to stop women from working outside their homes. Why do women 'need' to go outside their homes if they are already getting paid for 'sitting at home and doing nothing'? That's what they would say. It would not lead to the recognition of household tasks as 'work'. Paying a woman for taking care of her house and family propagates the idea of gender division of labour, and therefore once again, limits her choices. Also, as we can see in West Bengal with project 'Laxmir Bhandar', it would become a weapon for political parties fighting over women votes. And in a country like India, where most women start living with her in-laws after marriage, a payment for her household work would limit her rights in her in-laws house. Rather, we should try to distribute the pressure of household work equally within the people living in the house, regardless of their gender. When everyone has to take turn for grocery shopping, cooking, feeding, cleaning, dusting, and washing, people will realise how much labour it takes to make a home function smoothly and the exhaustion it causes. It will also allow women the time to study and work outside her home, as she would not be burdened with household work.

Nonsense. Men will never do their share. If they could they would have by now. Rather, women should be paid as per industry wages from pre tax salary contributions by her husband. This way if she wants to work outside she can while paying a domestic help her wages from husband's salary. That would be practical solution fair for all.

Not a day goes by when I realise the sheer pressure we put on someone and I’m guilty of being complicit in the system. Also, we need more equality of the sexes (and across the spectrum) in the construction of products and the home because most of the time, they are designed by men. It’s not accessible for anyone.

But home and most products are designed for women's needs and also targeted to them. Most of the money spent in purchases are controlled by women. Moreover houses are literally designed to cater women need to efficiently do house work , from the height of kitchen slab to the placing of store area near kitchen. While I do think that we do need equal opportunity regardless of gender across spectrum but the logic you gave was far from real and stereotypical (everything being done for men). However I don't think you had any bad Intentions and hence I just wanted to add perspective and not targeting you of ill. Have a nice day , peace✌

The 3R concept should be adopted everywhere and i think boys should be taught from a young age to help with chores around the house. I know too many young men who have absolutely zero household skills simply because growing up they only ever saw their mothers doing these chores and were probably taught that their wives would do the same once they got married. Its high time boys are taught at home and at school these basic life skills like cooking, cleaning, doing laundry etc.

Because it is unpaid labour, it is looked down upon by the benefitted members of the household. If my husband would even pick a glass of water by himself, my mil(who btw, kept complaining how her husband never contributed anything towards the household chores), would make fun of my husband so much that he turned into a copy of his father. Can’t ever let go of the taunts “ you are turning into a woman”, directed towards my husband. These are the values that some mothers give their sons. There is a very easy solution to this problem faced by strong independent career women.. All employed career Women who want to work after marriage, stay in her father's house after marriage, and look after her parents, do not want to take leave from her job to look after her kids etc can marry a poor, unemployed homeless, handsome, young man... He will be happy to live in his career wife's house because he is homeless. So, the wife can always look after her parents . He will never stop his career wife from working after her marriage because he is unemployed . Because he is unemployed and always sitting inside his wife Father's house, he will look after her small kids. So, she need not take leave from work to look after her kids. She can continue her career and present life style in her Father's house... But, a rich well employed man who owns his own house, is not going to come and live in his father in law's house. Most rich well employed men don't want to marry employed women. Rich well employed men already have enough money, and so he does not need the salary of his wife. So, most rich well employed men want to have an unemployed housewife and have a Peaceful married life. There are many poor unemployed girls who don't have anything to eat in her own house or living in rented house, because her parents are poor. These poor unemployed girls are waiting for some man to come and marry her and take her to the husband's house and give her free food and shelter for the rest of her life. So, the rich well employed men can marry such poor unemployed women and lead a happy life in his own house . While the career girls who do not want to go to her husband's house, want to work after marriage etc can marry a poor, unemployed, homeless, handsome young man and take her husband to her father's house or to her rented house and lead a happy life ... So, everyone is happy.. b

This is going to be disastrous if Housewives are paid for household chores. Its not going to empower women instead more and more women are going to be stuck in a patrilineal trap. Our main goal should be to make women independent. Paying salaries to housework would just discourage young women from actually going to college and seeking a real paying job outside.Let's be honest if it is an abusive marriage and they are seeking divorce what's going to happen. The woman is going back to her parent's house if she has no job and she is not going to get paid for house work there. Instead of labelling it homemaking and glorifying it and paying salaries we should encourage women to join the workforce and become independent and try to close the gender pay gap which is a hundred percent a result of maternity. by making paternity leave a thing, well guess what more and more fathers would be okay with staying home and taking care of new born kids with a paid leave.

Hi The Swaddle team, I'm genuinely impressed that you included the clip from Ki and Ka to acknowledge the male figures being a homemaker too, in our real-world. I understand that you transitioned to focus on women as the majority of the (unpaid) homemakers and was constantly putting a spotlight on that. But I don't know if I am overthinking or I am right here but - you concluded the video with basically interpreting that this is all because what women do, after suggesting the "RRR Approach for homemakers". I mean, you started off good by showing a male homemaker and then ended the video with a message being one-sided, benefitting only female homemakers and not male homemakers? I didn't get it. I'd have appreciated it more if you concluded the video by being a little open to the definition of homemakers since you started the video with that tone and have the word in the title. Not demeaning your efforts for the video but it feels a little off, TBH.

Well, we live in a capatalist society where everything is measured against how much you earn. So if you spend your time doing things that are unpaid, that is another word for things outside of wealth creation, your time, human value and efforts are considered out of sight out of mind. So I understand why latent progressives were having this discussion, it was also a good political gimmick to bring attention to the invisible members of society. Also I absolutely agree with the ending of the video, if housemakers are salaried it'll lock up men and women is traditional roles that'll only intensify to an impractical degree while progressivism in all forms are meant to ease people out of mindless traditions.

Swaddle shouldn't promote such regressive ideas. Without demolishing the gender roles in the the household, drawing a salary for household chores further chains the woman to that particular gender role. It would have the opposite effect. This effect is what happened in religious, cast reservation system. Rather than making sure the democratic equality among different religious cast communities the system focused on keeping the cast system alive by implementing them. I'm afraid this would be the case if homemakers were provided the salary. They can draw the salary but they would be stuck in the assigned gender roles. Moreover, men would still depend on woman for household duty. What we need is a society where a man and woman sharing household work by recognizing it as a shared responsibility.

The idea of paying homemakers is economically unfeasible. Who should pay the homemaker??? The husband, the child(ren) or the State??? The cost of fooding, lodging, clothing, healthcare and other miscellaneous expenses already come from the husband's income, the children don't have the economic capabilities to remunerate and the State has no skin in the game. Somehow I find the term "homemaker" quite offensive. "Homemaking" is an all member job. The term glorifies domestic slavery and ties the women in a golden cage. The " homemaker" never tries to do something in life and thinks of herself as a self sacrificing goddess. Whereas a working woman pushes her limits and is still made to feel guilty for not doing it the "right" way! Son's of the so called "homemakers" grow up with unreasonable expectations towards women and are often unappreciative, snobbish and cruel towards their working wives. They don't help out at home because the "homemaker" mom does not teach her son that homemaking is his responsibility too. And what is the opposite of "homemaker", " home- breaker" ???. No wonder the working women are so misunderstood and demonised by their own families. Tell your "homemaker" that she does have an alternative, a choice to think beyond the home. She can step down from the goddess thrown and explore her options. Domestic chores are everyone's responsibly. It's not a one member job.

@Elleon Mor .. unmarried men and women should also get the same number of leaves. Because otherwise it will become discrimination because why should unmarried people work more than married people... In all countries with feminism, marriage rates have fallen and birth rates have decreased and family system has collapsed. In feminist countries men refuse to marry women due to marital property laws etc. Example.. in USA 50% women never get married. Yet all of these unmarried women get pregnant and 40% children born in USA are born to unmarried women.. In Sweden and Denmark local Men are refusing to marry the local feminist women and have started marrying feminine women from other countries.. Example.. 1.. why should Scandinavian women complain when Scandinavian men started refusing to marry Scandinavian women and started marrying Asian women. How does it matter to Scandinavian women if Scandinavian men are marrying Asian women. Many Scandinavian men are refusing to marry Scandinavian fe"inists and have started going to Asian countries like Thailand and Philippines and marrying Asian women from those countries .. They are not interested in marrying Scandinavian women. ... Now, there are very few men in Denmark and Sweden who are ready to marry the local fe"inist women, and so these fe"inist are asking their government to make laws that to stop the local men from going to Asian countries like Thailand and Philippines and marrying fe"inine Asian women. Similar thing have happened in all countries with fe"inism, all the rich men simply start avoiding and ignoring the local fe"inists and marry fe"inine women from other Asian countries.. In Scandinavian countries men are refusing to marry local women. The situation is so serious in Scandinavian countries, that the government of Denmark is requesting the local men to marry these local women. But, even the male migrants from Africa don't want to marry these Scandinavian fe"inists. The birth rate of Scandinavian women have fallen to all time low, and the governments are worried..
@WR-NC-ASPL

@Elleon Mor .. In all countries with feminism marriage rates and birth rates have fallen.. South Korean presidential frontrunner Yoon Seok-youl suggested Monday that feminism was interfering in “healthy relationships” between men and women, according to local press reports.. he suggested the movement is responsible for low birth rates... Some say feminism is too politically exploited [to the point] it prevents healthy relationships between men and women," Yoon said. "From a social standpoint, the conditions are ill-suited for having and raising children. This is not a problem that can be solved by giving out government subsidies.".. Fewer South Korean women believe they need to marry, with the number falling to 44 percent in 2018 from 62 percent in 2008, government figures showed, while the number of people living alone rose sharply, accounting for about one-third of households... Feminism is also gathering pace in other areas. A growing band of young women have given up makeup and cut their hair short to rebel against long-held ideals of beauty in a country with one of the highest rates of plastic surgery per capita... Yet, in direct opposition to this theory, fertility rates in countries that are generally regarded as more egalitarian are typically those with lower and dropping fertility rates. For example, since 2006, South Korea has spent at least $130 billion on changing this trend, through “tax incentives, expanded child care, housing benefits, special holidays for baby-making for some government workers, support for in vitro fertilization, generous parental leave from work, [and] subsidised play dates.” However, none of these measures have yielded the desired outcome, with the fertility rate still well below the replacement rate. Even Nordic countries like Norway, Finland, and Iceland, which have some of the most generous parental leave and childcare policies and are ranked as the most equal societies, are reporting a declining fertility rate despite their government’s best efforts... This suggests that the J-curve theory may be invalid, and that women with greater financial independence who are freed of the shackles of societal expectations and gender norms become less inclined to have children. Simultaneously, it also showcases that policymakers’ outward commitment to feminism is grounded in deeply patriarchal and paternalistic concepts, wherein the end goal is still to ensure that women’s role in society is to produce children...Countries that have not been corrupted by feminism have high marriage rates and birth rates.. Niger, for instance, has the world’s highest fertility rate, with 7.6 children per woman, ranks last on the United Nations’ development rankings of 189 countries, and ranks 157th on the gender inequality index.. There is a clear trend of falling fertility rates in countries that are closer to achieving gender equality. As policymakers continue and fail to entice women to bear more children, it is becoming increasingly clear that their version of feminism is in fact an aggressive and highly conservative form of natalism. In essence, women’s bodies are seen as tools for economic growth and gender equality is being used as a pretext to achieve that goal. As we look to the future and approach what seems to be a more egalitarian society, we must stop to consider the thought that we are simply recycling age-old forms of gendered discrimination to fit a new era, all supposedly in the name of the economy... Originated from South Korea, members of the 6B4T movement renounce sex, child-rearing, dating and marriage with men. The Chinese 6B4T feminist groups were banned on Chinese social media and labelled by the web censor as “extreme” and “radical”. At the same time, nationalists were mobilized to attack feminists who criticized hyper-masculine culture on social media. In recent years, online nationalist trolls have stigmatized feminists who advocate for women’s reproductive rights and sexual rights against patriarchy as “female fists” (女拳) who picked fights with men and upset harmonious gender relations in China and blame them for the country’s low fertility rate. Some even accuse outspoken feminists of conspiring with “foreign forces” because they are critical of some of the state policies.. A widely circulated article published, “How extreme female fists incite young people from getting married and giving birth?” (极端女拳如何带节奏煽动年轻人不婚不育?), published in June 2021, largely sums up nationalist views on Chinese feminists:... female fists]… encourage girls to belittle and despise males. They make use of gender perspectives to create conflicts within the society. Even though their impact is limited, the brainwashed ones have given up the will to give birth and joined the “female fists” to help them spread their ideas. On the other side of the same coin, they also agitate males into hating females as women are becoming less adorable, too demanding and looking down on males…

Men are ready to do all 100% of the household work and look after the children, if the wife goes outside the house, earns money herself, and provides him and her Children food and shelter, wife pays house rent or buys house using her own money and looks after all the household expenses and expenses of children, EMI , pays all loans etc. Men are very happy to make women the providers and make her do the tougher work of earning money. How much do you think should be paid to a home maker? More than the maid? If yes why not retire the home maker and keep the maid only :/ Makes more financial sense. Cooking and cleaning take up most of a home makers time and they are not exactly high paying jobs for a maid. The other stuff that you're talking about is irrelevant to a financial decision. We need to give home makers respect, and authority to run the household. There are multiple solutions to this but I'm not sure one size fits all approach will work here. Most women don't wanna ask their husband for money to buy them a lipstick. It's a bit more complicated than what you've assumed.

While it is easy to propose the idea of distributing household work equally and respecting housework and people doing housework, its an extremely subjective solution and does not ensure that women would be able to venture out for these outside jobs. Nor is it encouraging men to take any interest in participating in equal household work distribution. We are leaning too much on a wishful concept of a eutopian society, where people understand gender equality, equal pay, dissolution of traditional gender roles and taboo attached to women working outdoors and men wanting to be homemakers. In the real world, the 3R's come across as wishful thinking to me, people are not going to be so progressive in a 100 years. Maybe by then we will have robots to do some of these jobs and we would be in next century🤪

Okay no. Nobody can be paid for what they do in their homes. Try and make a boundary between what really matters to the state and the GDP of a country. What people do in their homes is not the concern of the state unless it's violence or anything illegal. Simply divide the unpaid labor amongst genders. How difficult is that. It's your home, the spouses have to make it work. It's like still pushing women in the household by saying, hey now you're gonna be paid for it leave the engineering to the men. So people think? Wow~ make job opportunities for women and create cerebral equality. The house work is a personal family matter let it be there. Let the husband and wife divide that labour so that they can both mutually benefit from each other's unpaid contribution to their jobs or careers. Lord!

I don't think so any men will be able to pay his wife for household work. Average salary in India is ₹32,840 / Month. And nothing will create any impact in the society if creators like u make videos on the basis of articles only. Please relate the issue with the practical issues of the country. One of my relative living in Dwarka and his office is in Noida. The company is providing cab but the time cap between pick up and drop is only 7 hrs. Everyone is not able to pay for cook and domestic workers. And everywhere Women's don't earn equal money according to the mint the average hourly wage for female is ₹196.4 only and for men is ₹242/- In this case if his wife will work she will not able to earn equal money and over pressure from companies will also create trouble in their personal life. Who will take care of their daughter? Who will teach the kid ? Who will listen the kids problem? If her husband choose to shit in home then income will reduce. I don't think so womens' want salary for household works. They are doing because she love the family. And according to observation "YES" womens like to support her partner. But in our country being a housewife is also a taboo. In western countries many Women don't work they like to be housewife. Many vlogs is available on KZbin and nobody judging those western housewives.
