Is it that hard for Jared to imagine comedy not working out, him going back to a corporate job, getting 10 days off a year, then not wanting to spend 80% of that vacation time every year with his in-laws? The fact that this is such a stretch scenario is wild, like life has circumstances that change over time and looking to Naomi and Jordana for advice to navigate it is super thoughtful. I wish Jared would hold back a little from so harsh on women, he has made a shift undeniably. It would be nice to have a Jorge viewpoint, it sucks so bad heard Jared, the voice of “man” be so knee jerk negative about us (women) lately.

Well at least you now know how most men think. I like his honesty in thoughts. Do we have to agree? No. Is it good to hear that people think this way so I am aware and the signs and clues and am not blind sided that people think certain ways that I may not understand or agree with? Yes.

Realistically, not everyone wants to vacation with their in-laws. No matter how well they get along.

Exactly. I would struggle to actually relax. There are some people you just feel more "on" for. Vacations are also limited and that's not my idea of a good time. The only benefit I could see at this time is them watching our child so my spouse and I could have some family time and some alone time on our vacation

Exactly! I also think trips work if there is no guilt / manipulation around it, so if someone doesn't want to go, they should be allowed to say no.

I barely even want to burn my PTO for my own graduate school comp exam next year. I have a decent amount of PTO, but it has to cover illnesses, vacation, doctor's appts. Taking 1/3 of your days for a trip over the holidays with in-laws might not feel like a good use of time

Jared, add pilot to the list of careers you won't date. 😂 I'm solo about 85% of the time my family has vacations (including his family vacations). It's always, "we'll see" because he can't bid for time off until closer to the event and it's all based on seniority. This was a career change for him, too, so it wasn't anything we were able to sort out before we were married. When we got married he was in finance with all holidays off and good PTO. It was a tough adjustment at first, but now it's fun to just go with the flow!

My boyfriend told me about his two closest friends, who are both women, on our first date and was like, "I always bring them up early because I don't want it to be a problem down the line because they will be in my life for as long as they'll have me."

For some people, family dynamics make them incompatible. My girlfriend and I talk about this all the time. Some people are super family oriented and some are not. I have two friend that didn’t work because the guy was with his family every weekend and they had pizza Sundays as a tradition. And she couldn’t stand it anymore. But he ended up finding someone who wanted a family like that and they are soooo perfect for each other. There’s people out there meant for you and your lifestyle.

As a gifts person, I don’t like receiving gifts that I don’t like, because as Jordana said, it will just pile up shit that I don’t need/like. And yes I can get them myself but I like the idea that someone will get it for me. So I’m all for the list thing! Also I’m a terrible gift giver but I like people feeling special so I’d rather get them something that I know they really like but won’t buy themselves.

My husband's friend's wife plans a Friendsgiving every single year with a friend group that doesn't even hang out or talk much anymore, and because of your vacation conversation I've put out the feeler for not going this year....0% of me wants to go because it's never enjoyable...and I don't even need to take PTO for it 🙃 Do I suck???

Let's be realistic here, noone's family is as fun after a couple of days as they want to believe. There are also holidays you have to spend together, a family vacation that is longer than 3 days as a mandatory activity is insane. If your partner is up for it, you should be happy, if they are not, that should be okay too. We all have limited vacation days.

I don't think hitting on your doctor is a good thing in general, you might not see him again, you might have to go back - making them uncomfortable is not cool either. However, this is a knee specialist maybe not that intimate, adding them on Insta or Linkedin wouldn't be the end of the world , I would pass that tiny ball and let them be if they don't reach out after that.
