Should I Buy This Old Trials Bike?

I found another Yamaha TY 250 that is almost the twin of the one I already have in my garage! But whether or not to get it is the dilemma for me… Do I really need to try cramming another bike into my already cramped shop space?! Ugh. Why are these decisions so hard to make 😩 And why do these sorts of deals always pop up for sale at the exact right (or wrong) moment for me to buy them?? Well, this time I am allowing fate to decide the outcome!
For anyone who want's to send me pictures of their bikes:
PLEASE SEND LARGE CLEAR PHOTOS!
1080p x 1080p is the MINIMUM we can work with, so please do your best at making sure your photos are large and not blurry 🙂 And send more than one if you can as well!
Email pictures to: redrider.canada.bc@gmail.com
Only motorcycle related emails please - sorry, but I just don't have the time to engage in personal conversations.
Thank you for your understanding.
If you DON'T want your bike highlighted in a future video showing viewers bikes then make sure to mention it in your email. Other than that, expect to see your bike in one of my videos!
If you would like my PO BOX address you can find it in the description to my channel by following this link:

Hi Angel, hey ya know I was thinking why don’t you put the two Yammys outside under a tarp for the summer. That will give you extra room in the garage for the summer. Then come winter bring them in and you’ll have a great winter project to while away the cold months n film content with.🙂 anyways just an idea. ✌🏼😊RZ

Congratulations on your purchase! Don't worry! Old two-stroke motorcycles are easy to maintain. The most important thing is to have a live crankshaft (otherwise you will have to repress "Перепрессовывать коленвал") and gearbox gears. And when assembling, do not forget to correctly position the locks of the rings so that they do not jump out into the "Windows". Even if something doesn't work out, you can always buy a simple Chinese engine of two series - 170 or 172 (250 cubic centimeters)- these are simple and fairly reliable engines - the only disadvantage is that you will have to digest the frame, since these engines are high..

I bought a new YR-1 350 in 1966 after riding Harleys for many years, the oil injection was neat, no mixing the gas, but me being 26 years of age I was too hard on the little guy, the engine seize up over in central Washington just after the warrenty expired,I bought another Yamaha in 1967 and rode it to work at Boeing in Seattle till I wore it out, rain or snow and that one day of sunshine in the summer of 1968

Oh what a slippery slope we tread when we have motorcycles on the brain. Hopefully between the two of them it will equal a good dependable running bike. I'm with you, the one already on the lift is the one I would fix up to run. the one you just bought would be my parts bike. Good luck on that project, I'm sure you will enjoy making another bike rise from the ashes! Ride and stay safe in your beautiful B.C.! Peace!

Something that’s a lot less complicated than your Harleys. There’s not a whole lot to getting a two stroke running and with your other bike you’ll end up with a nice little bike between the two of them to play with. Have fun take care and stay safe.

Hey kid, I have 3 v-twins. I started riding again a few years ago with a 250 Virago. It's a gutless wonder, so I bought an '02 Yamaha Road Star and I found a pristine '02 V-Star 1100 that I love putting around town on. Sometimes it is like " never enough, never too much"!! With a spare bike, you always have those parts made of "unobtanium"!! Good wrenching, just have fun.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Shovel. But I also have two '72 Ossa Pioneers and a 1975 Yamaha DT250B. They are awesome woods bikes and are a whole different experience than riding on the road. When I had kids I found a garage bike 73 Electra Glide. It was perfect for me. Wide tires always ran but then the family expanded I had to sell it. Now I'm having fun working on this street. Angel The Trailblazer, I find that when you set on buying something that you want you don’t tend to look 👀 it over properly, it’s like back in February when I bought my bike, I didn’t ride it down the road as it had been raining very hard and there was large potholes before the road, I now find that it has a ignition problem, at least you should be able to make one good bike, the bike on the road side might of been interesting, You never know you might build a Japanese garden, 😂

The fourth comment (I'll just duplicate it here. I hope I didn't write it crookedly). Pay attention to absolutely everything. The parallelism of the wheels (if it is not a fierce chopper. Or some motorcycles already from the factory with non-parallel wheels - such as BMW type "Goose"), the integrity of the frame- possible curved welds (where it will be seen that the welding is curved by a human hand). You need to pay attention to the condition of the front suspension (so that the feathers are even. If you don't want to spend a lot of money on restoring a motorcycle). The presence of a "Frame number". "Shake" the motorcycle behind the steering wheel with your hands (to find out the condition of the wheel bearings and the condition of the rear pendulum). And only then proceed to inspect the engine. The fact that you checked for the sound of "Tightness of the spokes" is not in the first place.

Cool little bike. The missing oil tank is odd. He says he was riding it 2 years ago, so it must have had the oil tank on it. Maybe reach out to him and ask if he has the oil tank laying around. Cause if he was telling the truth, he should know what happened to the tank. Will the tank from the parts bike work? It's a weird thing trying to properly look over a bike over with the owner standing there. Easy to miss stuff in the moment. Then you get it home and the real inspection begins.
@RedRiderCanadaBC
@RedRiderCanadaBC 4 ай бұрын
Yea so true! I guess to some degree you have to not be afraid of possibly offending someone about what their stuff is actually if you want to make an honest or good deal. They’re both usable and saveable. They’re getting really hard to get and it would be a shame to have one used for parts in my opinion. Haha thanks I appreciate the opinion. I don't really know a whole lot about these bikes, I was given the first one so that is what started this whole thing lol. It would be cool to get them both running! But I just will have to do whatever my budget can afford at this point. But I like the idea of having one to mess around with and another that is all nice and restored.

@@RedRiderCanadaBCNot sure why my comment didn’t post but I’ll try again. That’s crazy you were given the first one! 😮 The great thing about old two strokes like that, regardless of make is that they don’t need a lot to get running again. The one that’s complete I guarantee you if you clean the carby out and the fuel tank and put fresh fuel in and clean the spark plug, give it a few kicks and it should start. They are tough as nails! Obviously just make sure it’s got spark first and check for any air leaks from the rubber boots around the carby. They don’t need much which is why I love the old Yamahas. I saw another comment that said mix it at 50:1, please don’t do that! I’m not sure what this model runs but normally it’s about 32:1 or 40:1. It’s common to take the oil injection tank off, I did the same with my little ds 80 cause I don’t trust them haha It’s entirely up to you what you do with the bikes, I’ll support your decision either way. I completely understand about budget trust me, that’s why a lot of mine have sat for so long 😢 Regarding Instagram yeah I did comment, I would love a follow back! I commented using my personal account which is stelldyer I haven’t posted anything yet but I will be starting soon as I just got a motorcycle mechanic apprenticeship!! And want to share my journey 😁
