Fixed pricing is ideal, you know what your paying before you get there. No time wasting haggling and pushing for a few more pounds. Totally agree on paint protection, never get it just wash my car at the weekend.

I agree with you guys, I try to advertise competitively (which you have to because people search auto trader and automatically sort low-high), price too high and they dont even see the advert, despite it probably being a better prepped car than the cheaper ones. So advertise at a fair price and stick to it, but if you stick an extra £500 on the asking price and knock the customer £250 off they think they have got a deal. I can't do with it, the margins are so tight already.

I buy and sell vending machines and it’s the exact same in that line of biz … people NEED to think they are winning / clever so they can go and tell their friends how good a deal they got. At the end of the day, we all need to make a living, you boys aren’t out to rob any one blind .. just make some profit amongst you all for your efforts. Bargain hunters .. can go and hunt bargains with some other mug in my opinion and see how they get on

I bet when you purchase your stock you always pay top dallah because the matey you buy from must make a living. These lads aren't out to rob anyone blind except when they were boasting how the thick boned fella robbed a naive punter on a purchase price on a Picanto (IIRC), to name the few.

I'll tell you who started all this bud, DC Cook, I worked at the rover dc cook branch, it was all big mark up, massive over allowance, it was all crazy, tbh showroom was full and buzzing, trouble is people still think it's like that, they come off the net as its cheap, then want some amazing discount, leaving you nothing in it, then it's warranties, I did a polo the other week for 50 quid profit, he was all best price, when I said there was nothing in it, he all smiling, oh they all say that, tbh that was a bad one and most this year have been OK, but auction price high, fees, transport, paint, mechanical work, advert, vallet, maybe delivery, then taxes, doesn't leave a lot, then what if it's warranty stuff a mth later?

I assume this was 50-60 years ago, because that’s how long (and more) the over-price/big trade-in method has been in use. It was very common in the 80s/90s, particularly on new Ladas and Polski Fiats. We used to get people with £50 cars leaving in a huff because we wouldn’t let them drive away in a £2000 used car for their car plus £500…

Get it on Autotrader but be totally open about the category and any work completed. Provide interested punters with any accident damage reports and invoices, even if they don’t ask about it. Just be open and price it for what it is.

Not necessarily- if we don’t have to knock all the margin out of the car to get a sale then we have more money to play with to get it prepped properly and act as a safety net in case there is warranty work. If the car is advertised as good value then there really shouldn’t be a need to haggle. If a customer just wants to rinse us of every penny of margin we have then that leaves us with fewer moves when there are comebacks, we’d just rather work to avoid them as best as possible in the first place. And also we’re allowed to make a living- businesses need sensible profits and turnover to survive.

I take work in as well as selling cars, people are totally different on work, they always pay the price, trust you, believe what you say, where sell a car and it's the mirror image, discount, not believing you, it's weird, your actually the same person.

If they wind me up I tell them you pay to the penny at Asda, tbh motor trades done it to itself offering unbelievable deals, I got my transfer wrong by a pound at the auction the other week, they sent me a separate invoice for it, had to be paid, sometimes it just feels like your helping everyone else, auction, delivery, parts supplier, recon, paint, autotrader, tax, they all do OK, then the customer knocks your end down, council turned up the other day gave me an on the spot fine for no trade waste collection contract, she said I see you use blue roll to clean cars, that'd trade waste, I dare not tell them I use it to start the fire, might have increased the fine.
@kingdude374910 ай бұрын
Everything being said is for dealers benefit . If your selling a car make sure its right before it goes out, check everything on the vehicle before it goes out to the customer! So many dealers put a car out with known faults and rely on the warranty after sale to fix existing faults! All your saying is excuses and blaming customers for returning a vehicle which has faults which was sold at retail prices!
@cardealerpro10 ай бұрын
We usually do, just on this occasion with the Land Rover the customers choice was to take the vehicle before our checks had been completed, and with a £500 discount. He could have had it at the advertised price, waited a few more days and then had it with everything sorted. But even then with used cars, if all known faults are sorted at point of sale, it does not mean that others will not occur during the following months- that’s what the warranty is for. So paying fixed price is to the customer’s benefit as we then have the money in the metal to fix any issues unrecognised at point of sale. As a small independent , we don’t have the resources or facilities a large dealer or car supermarket would have so we can be as vigilant as possible before sale, but there will sometimes be something we missed. 90% of the time that isn’t the case though.
@roystonvehicles912910 ай бұрын
As you say bud it was a mistake selling it to him, in instances like this when the customer gets a massive chunk off its gloves off time, I'd say no you made a low bid warts and all, having said that brakes are a dodgy issue and if there was an accident you'd be in massive trouble, I don't put anything up for sale until it's totally ready, tbh the guy if he had any honor shouldn't be bothering you as he's bid low and bought as is, I sold a polo recently, I paid 2 much and the guy knocked me down 200 quid, unfortunately I'd already done everything, rear shoes, pads, mot, service, paint, vallet, tyre, still came out with 50 quid(!)
