I tried to make my FXDWG a communter, added a sissy bar and a bag. That didn't last 3 mos before I got rid of it for a Ducati 12000 Multistrada. What a bike that ducati is, got a 2015 with 4k miles for $12k USD. Maybe one day I'll be back on a Harley, but for nearly $30k new, that is WAY too much!

*Sport. Glide.* From what I've seen it can do both distance AND around-town riding, plus you can take off the bags & fairing to keep the minimal look. The one con: the fairing does attach to the bars from what I've read so you'd feel the wind in the bars.

@@jeffshultz3883 For me personally I find the Road Glides to be great touring bikes. You have 2 fairly large storage pockets in the fairing, there are 2 vents in the fairing that open and close, and they make a huge difference in the amount of air reaching the rider extending your comfort range. I like the built in navigation, no mounting a phone or GPS, and I added the Sirius/XM module and use a DIN to 3.5 mm adapter and use Plugfones to listen to music. The earplugs on these do a great job of blocking wind noise so that I can actually listen and enjoy at low volume. And because the license plate sits so high up under the tour pack, I've never been charged a toll, as apparently the cameras can't capture my plate, saving me I don't know how much money over the years. And I've made sure not to put any transponder pass on the bike.

I had the same dilemma. I ended up going with the black road glide special and I don’t regret the decision one bit. I really liked the way the RG looked from off the bike, but wasn’t thrilled with the way it looked from the seat. Good news is that big fairing gets smaller the more you ride. It’s low so most of the time you’re looking right past it. That is however a drawback (compared to the bat wing) when the rain hits. It’s super comfortable for 300+ mile rides and surprisingly fun to get aggressive with in the twistes. You have to have some balls in the beginning, but once you see that it’s totally capable, it’s a lot of fun! It is a little overkill for short trips around town, so I might pick up a cheap used twin cam dyna for that. Other options you could consider would be a roadking special with a set of T bars and detachable windshield (reckless even makes the rock hoodz stereo for it) or a coast glide type build. Would be cool to see you do one with the low rider sport! Hope this was helpful. Good luck!

I had a streetglide for a long time and absolutely loved it, could do whole states at a time. I am now on an 07 fatboy and feel the frame fits me better. I added speakers to my helmet and a luggage rack on the sissy bar. I do miss my cruise control but the fatboy looks great and is much better for bouncing around town and I can still do long trips by bolting on some bags. The softatils they are making now can easily do the longer rides and are just as comfortable. Get the bike that makes you happy, if you talk yourself into a roadglide and dont love it you will be posting a video in 6 months about what to get next

@@WoodyRides I recently traded in a Street Glide special for a Sport Glide. Although I'll admit that the touring bikes are pretty nice, they do not come anywhere close to the Sport Glides power to rate ratio/suspension/handling/ to name a few. The sport glide will make a great commute bike. Hell I'm of the opinion that it will make a great long distance bike. Unless the plan is to ride 2up consistently, which is where the touring bikes shine, I would not want to commute on a touring bike daily. JMHO. Take care.

As someone who switched just this year (02 FXSTDI to 15 FLHX), I can't recommend it enough. I made a video about it but long story short, I went from a MC being a backup to my main transportation over this last winter and upgrading to a bagger was a HUGE upgrade overall. It may feel like a lot of bike when stopped but once you're going it is amazing. Within 3 months of owning it I had to go on a huge ride for a funeral (1660 miles in 48 hours) and I will say, on my old Softail I'd have been dead by the end, on the Street Glide I was exhausted but was able to be back on the bike to head to work the next day after I'd returned. I honestly don't know if I could ever go back unless it was for something for short rides or around town errands, but even then I really love my Street Glide.

So, 4 months ago I bought a 2018 Roadglide special with air ride, extended bags, stage 3 speaker system. Had speakers in the bags. Let’s just say the bike was loaded! 2 months later I traded it in for a 2019 Fat Boy S custom built. For the riding I do the road glide was too much bike for around town traffic and the short rides I take. I very seldom have two people on the bike. Hope that helps! Food for thought?!

I just purchased a 2016 road king. If you want minimal with power, the road king special would do the job. Dont worry about being a bagger bro, the comfort and practicality will quickly win you over.

Literally just made a similar decision. Went from a 19 FXFBS to a 19 Road Glide standard. Minus the chrome, no regrets. Couldn't afford the special. Thank God powder coating exists lol! Worth the jump. Better range, better economy, my lower back and ass don't hurt after 2 hours of riding and I can hear the music with a full face going 95 on the hwy. Having big bags is also a bonus.

I feel like you’d have more fun building a soft tail to the way you like then just outright buying a bagger

Sport Glide with the Blockhead touch. Gives options for carrying gear, strip down for weekends, and plenty of options to customize.

As much as I love my Low Rider, I'd go bagger in a heartbeat. Although, I'd rather have the batwing than the sharknose.

my current bike is a 2015 wideglide, going to trade in on a road glode limited. i would HIGHLY recommend you ride the limited as well, it sits higher and is 100 times more comfortable than the special.

Going from a street bob to a road glide was rough. There are so many directions for this bike. I look at the current road glide as the modern fxr. I fell in love with my road glide when I switched the bars. Be safe and thanks

I went straight from Roadster 1200 to Street Glide. Zero regrets, I absolutely love my SG. I wanted something comfortable and capable of going on some road trips. The new Boom GTX is a really good infotainment and the locking bags are convenient.

Have you considered the sport glide? Small batwing, available creature comforts, decent sized bags. Still on a soft tail frame, and you can take the batwing and bags off for cruising around.

I have one. It’s wonderful for long distance. But it’s a ton of bike and a ton of money if you are not absolutely in love with it. Would recommend you mod FXDR to meet your needs and save the money...especially with the new house.

I am in the same boat my commute is 110 miles round trip everyday. I ride most days. I have a road glide special. I set the cruise control kick my feet up on the highway pegs turn up the stereo and enjoy the ride! I actually traded in a street glide for the road glide for it!

I honestly get what you mean Blockhead, but damn, you’re right it ‘is’ a lot of bike, not that there’s anything wrong about it, y’know, everyone has their cup-of-tea, but understanding the minimalist lifestyle, and then having this, woah, it’d be a game changer.

All I can say is I love my 2017 Electriglide limited. We ride distance a lot. A short ride for our group is 200 miles. Plenty of room for rain gear cooler etc. Still potential for accessories. You have the low rider for your short rides. But in the end, but what makes you happy.

Everything you say about it being a big bike and you don't know if you are ready for it or want it, is exactly what I was saying before I traded my Softail Slim for a Street Glide and I now have my FOREVER BIKE. Baggers are fantastic and you can do a lot to them to customize to your liking !!! Aloha from the middle of the Pacific Ocean

Definitely good problem to have. Think of it as the next challenge. Meets your need for commute, and lots of content to design your own bagger how you want it. You still have your original for your more local rides.
