Thank you Linda for sharing your garden this time of year. I’m in Dallas, TX and have implemented a lot of your tips since moving to Texas. I love rescuing mums this time of year and enjoying their flowers the following year. This year I’ll adopt your method of sticking to one color though 😅

Hope I'm not too late with this tip, but not only can you replant/reuse mums, but you can do the same with sunpatiens! It is very hardy. I bring it indoors in pots, cut it back to an inch or two above the soil line and just occasionally water it over the winter (I am in zone 6). I bring it back out in the spring after last frost and it explodes back to life. Beautiful walk around your yard and neighborhood as always!

Thank you for the tip on the sunpatients! I didn't know that, and now that I do, I'm going to bring my pots into my enclosed porch and try it! I appreciate it, very much!

Well, my property isn't small, 2 acres, but I do blow all leaves out of the large flower beds I have and cut them up with the lawn mower, and put them in wind rows, where I take my push mower with the grass collection bag on and mow over them again and pick them up. I spread on all my raised beds, a few inches thick, my beds where I will plant my dahlias, and around my fig trees. I sprinkle blood meal over the beds and water them in, almost all of those leaves are composted by spring.
@shirlyanderson675816 сағат бұрын
Hi Courtney. Do you spread the blood meal over the leaf mulch? If so, why not before mulching? TIA

I always appreciate a tour of your stunning neighborhood. Each house is unique! I guess home owners were in charge of picking their own home designs way back when, instead of one builder putting up a whole neighborhood? I took the lazy route and did all my tulips in pots this year since they never come back from year to year in the ground in my climate in Maryland. I always lift and replant them. Some of my mums come back every year, I leave them just in case. 🌱🌱🌱😀🌿🎃

I so enjoyed the walk with you thru your neighborhood. So lovely & well kept. Love the big trees. My fav house was the white antebellum home. I blow most of my leaves into my garden beds. It’s like a winter blanket. Come early spring I rake & blow a lot of them back out to clean things up. I dump them near our lake. 🎃🍁 I’m in GA on just an acre.

Our city curbside collects our leaves, mulches them down and uses it to compost our public park and bedding areas.

I can’t believe you don’t have yard pickup. Here in Ontario Canada we have yard waste pick up all growing season long and in the fall we have leaf pickup. It is all taken to large compost sites where in the spring you can pick up free compost for your gardens.
@LindaVater3 күн бұрын
I know! I have talked to our mayor in the past about it… But so far no movement.
@BernadetteCorleyTroge2 күн бұрын
We have drop-off and pickup sites here in St. PAUL, MN, but we can also pay a fee to have someone pickup all the materials that can be composted. I like this method because it allows people to choose.

Zone 7B/8A, N MS. I am pulling out annuals a few at a time to make it easier. I set November 1st as my deadline on trying to keep any annuals going. We got 1.4 inches of rain yesterday, the first rain in over a month, so a lot of things really perked up. Right now, I'm collecting seeds and taking cuttings. 10 day outlook doesn't show any cold temps. By the way, Linda, did you send that squirrel with the Oklahoma football team to Oxford MS?

I mulch leaves with the mower and put them on top of cut back perennials, on top of my vegetable bed and some goes back into the grass. Some leaves are bagged and either put to the curb or given away to other gardeners for their compost or vegetable gardens. I only got about 100 kids last night but that was a good turn out for me!

Great video! Love the walk and seeing the decorations. Also, have to say, great outfit! It’s probably one of my favourites… casual but good looking. I would leave the pentas… they are beautiful. I live in the northwest outside Vancouver, B.C. and because I go away for 4 months through the winter I have to cut a lot of stuff down that most people wouldn’t cut until early spring. It makes the yard look a little barren… 😎🇨🇦

I personally would leave the Pentas for the butterflies. I have a couple of questions. Why have you been wearing hand braces. I wear at night for carpal tunnel syndrome. Also, when will you be planting your bulbs/tulips or others? I live in the Houston area and was wondering when I should go ahead and plant. And,what will you do with the lantana when you dig it up? I love watching all of your videos and have learned so much from you. I just ordered your garden journal. Can’t wait to get it!

In Oklahoma, zone 7a, we typically plant them mid November or around Thanksgiving. That said, we keep our eye on the weather and if we see an early freeze or super cold weather, we get them in when we can. I think December THRU Jan is a good time for your zone.

Because I have a smallish urban yard I can rake or blow out my garden beds into my grass walking paths where I then run the mower over them. Most then get tossed back as mulch after I put down a thin layer of compost on the beds. I make one bag of leaf tea to use next year. If I have any leaves left, those leaves go to a cousin and her daughter for their food forests.

Nice combo video. Would you please give a short lesson on composting versus landfill? Based upon your comments, it sounds like debris is bad for our landfills. I live in N. FL with a small yard and have been putting yard debris in the trash. We have trouble with bad bugs if we have too much debris in and around plants. Thank you

Your personal political opinion has no place here. You offend 50%+ of the population. Your judgement is not relevant.
@Annie-qu9ik3 күн бұрын
Hi from Annie you waste a lot of plants pulling them out even when-they are at their best blooming, if you gave some away they still might not take in other garden l settings etc so it would be such a waste too. If you have that over planted crowed look you feel you need to pull some plants out the idea is not to over crowd the plants in the first place, as you have a rough idea how big most will grow when first planted.
@staciejackson74973 күн бұрын
I don’t think she is pulling them because it’s crowded, she is pulling them because it is close to the end of the season and they are annuals, and because she wants to plant bulbs for the upcoming seasons. But also, IMO, the beauty of having one’s own garden, is doing as one likes.
@peggy-ann19612 күн бұрын
Um not sure if you actually listened to the video. These are annuals that will freeze out and die, not perennials that she’s pulling due to overcrowding. She’s preparing her yard for winter and getting it ready for spring blooming bulbs .

I'm contemplating and resisting taking out my front annual beds for the summer.... just like you are with the pentas and lantana. I'm a prominent corner lot like just like you and get some lovely compliments from passer-by-ers. We haven't had a frost or freeze yet here in Winston-Salem & Greensboro (zone 7b/8a). I planted angelonia and its still going strong....just not the color palette I want going into winter. I have 4 flats of white pansies on standby to replace them though and don't want those to suffer in the meantime....I might as well give them a couple more days to enjoy!
