Thanks for this video, short & succint and very useful especially for those new to the hifi hobby 👍 When I first started in the hifi game a few years ago I was always unclear as to why I should or shouldn't wanted a ported speaker. The pro's and con's were rarely explained. After much experimentation, I have found that blocking the ports on my floorstanding speakers and using dual sealed subs as well, gives me the tyoe of bass I wanted for music listening. For my modest home cinema area the ports are all open in order to 'feel' all those low frequency effects in the audio.

These can be a GREAT tool... With my EMIT 50 in my home theater it helps with close wall placement, and its also helps blend them with my dual REL subs... It can be a great tuning tool also, BUT!!! Dont forget that the Dynaudio towers are some of the best bass there is... Let if free if possible.. :)

Does plugging a port cause any damage to the speaker? I read somewhere it forces the driver to work harder thus reducing its life span.

With unplugged port there are audible problems with midrange because part of midrange is reflected back through the port and mixes with the same sound coming out from the front of the speakers in opposite phase. This results in a dead lifeless midrange.
