I disagree. Most of the MCU were D grade movies. We were hyped so it seemed like they were better than they were. But there's like 5 to 7 good films out of like 30. What made MCU work is an anchor, someone that everyone can fall back on. Who's that now? No one. So now the sea of mid tier movies echoes. Before they were pit stops to bigger films. That all being said, MCU needs to move on from RDJ, but more importantly, Hollywood needs to move on from Superhero movies. The general public is ready for fresh ideas. And that's not to say that Hollywood hasn't been struggling since the golden days of the MCU, but having to relearn how to walk also isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I think a big difference is now, is that people were going to Marvel movies and would get surprised. Now Marvel is uses these “surprises” as gimmicks. Literally nobody was surprised by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield returning or any other surprise. It’s not storytelling, it’s just empty moments
@phabiorules7 ай бұрын
I still love the amazing world of gumball quote “I love surprises, but only the surprises I see coming.”
@Sugarman967 ай бұрын
The surprises also worked then because the territory of "let's make lesser known heroes shine" wasn't explored. Nobody knew Iron Man before the first movie, maybe people we saw the cartoon, but that's it. So it was a pleasant surprise that the tone was a refreshing combination of serious and humorous, but also showing that the unknown Iron Man is a pretty cool character. Same with Captain America. If you know Captain America, you know that he's got that silly shield and a goofy brightly colored costume, but the first movie actually made the shield badass and adapted the costume into a practical outfit for a soldier. They made it look good. I could go on and use Guardians of the Galaxy as another example, but the point is that those movies existed in a time where the MCU just wasn't around as long and the movies had to stand kinda on their own merits without the big branding of MCU.

If they wanted to bring RDJ back, they should have made him the AI of the Ironheart suit. This would avoid cheapening Tony's death, which a resurrection would do, and also gives an older actor a non-action role (and yes, I know Keanu is the same age). The value of bringing Tony back is his charm, not his fights, and he can add that to a movie with a couple of days in front of a green screen, then added into the movie as a hologram or floating head in the Ironheart HUD. They need to focus on new good quality rather than always having to rely on nostalgia and the past all the time. This doesn’t just account for Marvel, but for Disney and Hollywood as well.

The greatest triumph of the MCU was its ability to tell a fantastic, moving and conclusive ending in Endgame - for Stark, for Rogers and for the Avengers as we had known them. It was beautifully executed on a character and plot level, and the MCU seemed to be at the peak of its powers with zero risk of falling back on debasing comebacks and recasts - the franchise had the momentum and self confidence to move forward with new characters, both as original heroes and as successors to titles like Iron Man and Captain America. I was so excited coming out of Far From Home, I understood those who wanted to step off the bus at Endgame but I felt energised and excited for whatever would come next. 5 years later, I'm completely checked out of the franchise and the only Phase 4 entries I consider part of my canon watch-order are Far From Home and Guardians Vol3 (Shang-Chi is a film I thoroughly enjoy in a standalone capacity, but the MCU works more neatly for me with 1 earth-bound epilogue and 1 cosmic epilogue). Conversely, I really just don't care what RDJ and Marvel do with Stark anymore, any more than I care about the Loki show when I'm watching Hiddlestone's run with the character from Thor to Infinity War. It's not a surprise that the MCU's winning streak ended with Endgame, a lot of people called it and they always looked like they had a point. I wish they would leave the characters and conclusions from the infinity saga alone, but they gave us a complete run of films that stands alone on its own two feet and can't be tarnished by anything the franchise does in its protracted death-throes.

I think it'd be okay to bring RDJ back as a small side character part, but if he took lead again it would absolutely diminish everything they did with Endgame. But the studios seem to be getting it wrong. People aren't bored of superhero movies, they're bored of the low-effort, poorly written, rushed superhero cash-grabs we've been getting since the Avengers concluded. Multiple movies and shows every year results in poor writing and no time for character development. Let them cook!

Please no but I would love to see Chris Evans return as Captain America in a movie all about what happens back in the 1940s/50s after he goes back in time in endgame to return the infinity stones.

I don't want them to magically undo the death... but I am not oppose of him playing other variant of Iron Man or as an AI. I have always wanted to see the versions where he is basically old long bearded, broken and strap himself into containment chamber, controlling an army of suits. That version usually happens in timeline where a lot of people, villains and heroes has dead, the world in crisis. It also resemble his worst MCU nightmare. I also think he is genuine when he said it is a character most like-him given his history, it's why it worked so well. I don't think it's about the money, but rather the comfort of playing 'him'.

It would keep up with tradition of comic book characters always coming back from the dead

I’m just a casual MCU fan, and I haven’t read many comics of any kind. I’d love to see RDJ again because he’s charming and Iron Man is cool. I’d pay to see the movie without worrying for a minute about the adverse impact to canon, the multiverse’s integrity, or similar.

I don't want RDJ back. He was amazing and his death was fitting and perfect. He did what he needed to do. The only Iron Man we should see is in another world in the multiverse played by a different person. Everything should have been finished and reset after Endgame.

The problem with that gimmick is that it will only work once. As cheap and transparent a marketing ploy as it is, it would get people into the seats for Tony's first time back, but the returns will diminish so quickly that they'll probably lose money paying RDJ the price he would command these days if they're foolish enough to try to stretch it over multiple films.

He's back as Dr. Doom. The question now is if he's a Tony Stark variant or some other character.

I don't think bringing back the original Tony Stark would fly, but I do think a Tony Stark, from a different universe, coming in during Secret Wars would work, if explained well enough.

What about Sherlock Homes? I need at least one more of those movies with RDJ and Jude Law.

I don’t think bringing back RDJ is the answer. I think most people would see it, rightfully, as a cheap ploy. I’d like to believe, however, that Deadpool vs Wolverine and Fantastic Four have the power to reignite MCU excitement if they play their cards right. It seems that Marvel has learned their lesson in terms of oversaturation (in theory) so that should help too.

Only way they could bring him back is as the new Jarvis. A program he wrote up and scanned his brain as a back up. Tony made the program because he knew the Avengers would not last forever so the new Hologram Tony (Have RDJ be on set and interacting with the cast but just use a filter when ever some one passes through him or something) goes out to find new Avengers. This way the real Tony's death still mean something but having a canon Tony be around trying to still protect the world.

About Connery returning as Bond, while never say... is a pretty terrible cash in, he was three years younger than Moore who played the "official" Bond at the same time. Octopussy came out the same year. Still everybody talked how Connery was old.

the part you said at the very end reminds me of the pirates franchise and how disney kept milking sparrow and Barboza. In the end of pirates 6, i had like almost no emotional connection to Barbosa or jack compared to how much i had to them during the second or third movie. maybe its just me tho.

He died at the peak of the mcu. If he return, not only it will ruin his character arc (which is done) but also the character will also probably gonna be written very poorly. He got a perfect ending, dont pull him back in just to probably give him a shitty one. Even if its a variant of ironman, it will feel cheap and artificial
@sideeyed76827 ай бұрын
I’m telling you now, they’ll do him like they did Skywalker when Disney picked up where Lucas finished. They’re going to re introduce him way out of character and have him do things Tony stark wouldn’t typically do for the expense of dumb MCU humor. The MCU is on a lifeline right now and the fact they’re trying to bring him back even though they already written it in a way where it’s basically impossible shows they got nothing. No creative back bone, no imagination, nothing.
@noobmaster694266 ай бұрын
Exactly! I stg, Hollywood has been having this problem since 2021. Nobody can stay dead, they’re too reliant on nostalgia, and they don’t care about originality.

First choice, as an AI version of Tony made up from his saved memories. Second, a variant but it better be a damn good variant so it all makes sense.

I mean the MCU isn’t ’struggling’ it just had a average to bad year with 3 projects that all had their own obstacles. Spiderman, Black Panther, Dr Strange etc were all still financially stable + the Avenger movies can still do well
@slightlycookedbacon52017 ай бұрын
It’s not Iron Man that should return. He already has in “What if?” It’s if RDJ should return. I think it’s okay, as long as it isn’t the same one that died in Endgame. And if they write him well.

I wish the "new generation" of MCU protagonists were a lot more stark and in contrast to the original cast. I think it wouldve made these next phases feel a lot more compelling, instead of continuing threads from side characters while also introducing new "replacement" characters like She-Hulk, Iron Heart, and Falcon as Cap. Just no plan, it seems like. Tony Stark died. His story was told. It was beautiful. Let it lie, I say.

I'm gonna be real. I don't think he and Chris Evans should return, unless they kill off all the new cast, and bring back the OG team from an alternative universe and get rid of Dr. Hulk.

Honestly, the fact that bringing back characters from the dead and from a different MCU saga is being considered at all shows how bad of a state they're in now. We need new characters like Wolverine, the X-Men, Ms. Marvel, and Daredevil to take the reins instead of focusing energy on making carbon-copies of previous, dead characters (Falcon as Captain America, Ironheart to replace Iron Man, Yelena to replace Black Widow, etc.). If anything, I hope this really is a wake-up call for Marvel. Smh I miss the old MCU 😔

I don't think it would be an issue if they had an alternate universe version, if there's a heavy emphasis on the alternate universe and they have other characters existing in both universes too. It would be interesting to have some kind of evil version of Tony Stark, which seems like it would be easy to do.
