Getting fired from SNL was the best thing that ever happened to Shane. He's blowing up for his standup and it's far better than anything he would have been allowed to do at SNL

Yeah, just look at how crippled/creatively limited Kyle Mooney has been since getting on snl. He may get more money and have a better resume now, but I guarantee he’d be 100x happier with his output if he’d just kept doing his own thing on KZbin or something. Snl is like a comedy death sentence afaic

He was still hired. He got paid his signing contract and whatever he was guaranteed per episode for however many episodes he was cast for. You don’t go to SNL and just wait two weeks for a paycheck. He already cashed the advance and he likely never had to return it. Matter of fact, he mentioned it on LOS directly after it happened. Trust me. He’s fine.

SmokeKing because he’s a normal human being. Anyone would be upset to lose the opportunity to be on such a legendary platform for comedy. It would be unreal for him to have gone out for it, got it, lost it, and been completely unmoved. It’s an opportunity to put your face on the Mount Rushmore of comedy. While I believe SNL isn’t what it used to be and it’s a flaming bucket of month old diapers, it’s still SNL. That’s something in that world, whether we believe it or not. He’s ultimately more infamous because of it to the cult comedy fan so, it’s a win for us. Let’s just enjoy it.

@@richardwagon6433 having comedians talk about you to their small audience of comedy fans doesn’t remotely compare to being seen every week on a show like SNL that is watched by millions of people, not just comedy fans, reported on weekly by news outlets, gets tens of millions of views weekly on KZbin, turns people into household names and launches Hollywood careers. The comedians that are talking about him can’t introduce him to the power players that Lorne Michaels can. Being talked about doesn’t compare to working with a new A-list celebrity, with the power to get you cast and launch your career, every week. To say his career wasn’t hurt is plain ignorant.

SNL is so funny. I especially like their set-up, where the "writers" always come up with a skit that looks like its made upcoming/aspiring comic-(team) 2-3 months earlier. So as to add to the confusion, they'll put their own stamp on it: They remake the skit but with as little context and funny lines as possible. A true post-post-modern avant-garde.

I disagree. I know a big part of his act and schtick is being a big asshole, but on podcasts he was always more laid back still a dick at times but not too bad. But this podcast he was a real dick. Yeah he had some friendly moments but he seemed to get pissed everytime Theo chimed in with one of his funny off the wall quick wit jokes and Bill never seemed to find it funny or ever acknowledge it. He left Theo hanging quite a bit and just seemed to wanna take over the show rather than be a quest and banter with the host. Which sucks cause these guys are two of my favorites but lately I been slowly dropping Bill down further and further down the list just cause of how much bigger if a dick he is becoming. Like the success has gotten in his head and he believes he is too big to be going on these smaller comedians podcasts. Just my opinion

Thomas C. I get what you’re saying completely, but you have to consider the stark difference in the way these guys grew up. Theo is a country bumpkin that spins hilarious webs of bullshit, which is his greatest talent. Bill is a Boston guy that HATES bullshit, and tries to stamp it out when people talk to him in person. They’ve both always been this way. Unfortunately, this was the episode I was waiting for, and am now sorely disappointed in.

It's crazy because Shane literally does one of the best Trump impersonations that I have ever heard/seen and SNL would have lost their minds writing skits that involved Shane. We always hear how “that’s just how it is, it swings one way then back the other way”, but all this witch hunting, cancel, pc culture, or whatever you want shit has not slowed down. If anything you could argue it’s worse than it was two years ago, or maybe it’s just the same, but it isn’t any better than it was/it hasnt “evened”out”. It’s just the new normal

No, it will swing back. But it’s not something fast like you think, and people who say that as if it’s good are idiots. You know what pre Nazi party Germany was like? VERY similar to how we are now. @@yellowbrand That's true... The news just came out when I wrote my comment. Also, the CC roast of Alec Baldwin just aired when I wrote it. On the couch was a current SNL writer, can't remember his name, sitting just far enough to the left not to make it on screen a lot, but he's there, so he can put it on his IMDB. In my experience, when talented & unknown performers/writers get hired as just writers for big productions and do a good job writing, while others perform it and get the credit. Unless you are hired as a cast member, or have previous success elsewhere, most likely you won't get the chance to perform because they risk losing a valuable asset: a good writer. I don't know much about this specific situation, but watching the guy on the roast panel I thought; "If they didn't fire him, Gillis could up just like this guy. Maybe he dodged a bullet"
