Ooo Manuela, I can relate ... that bad part about being poor is embarrassment, I was recently called over by my friend to cafe javas.. I was badly dressed , so messed up..n with lugages instead of a simple bag. Ooo Ooo I even failed to eat when I looked around and even how she had dressed. I was sooo lowwww. But from that day onwards...i decided to dress well n care about myself well. Even if I don't expect any date .

My husband grew up from the village in Fort and i grew up from Munyonyo. He was the first person to get a first grade in primary in his school. But when u meet my husband right now, he's actions and social life is for a muyenga grown up. I feel its about what someone wants and work towards that. He is even better than me a Munyonyo kid. 😀😀

As someone that’s been on the lower social class end, it helps when the one on the upper isn’t snobbish. They have to invite you to their world with an intention of sharing the experience together, not treating you as a victim or as ignorant. Then again the one on the lower has to desire to experience better coz I’ve also seen people who are completely resistant to progress, talking like they don’t need better when in actual sense it’s fear that’s keeping them from pursuing more

Manuela reminded me of a dating experience I had in my twenties with a guy from a prominent Baganda family. Even though I was not from money, I was lucky to have been raised by an educated relative who gave me exposure to fine things including vacations abroad. Anyway, I had a drive in me after university to make money and couldn’t understand my then boyfriend who would wait for his dad’s office to give him an allowance every Friday. I remember telling him to find a job independent of his dad, which he did but only lasted two weeks. 😅. Needless to say, I broke up with him and went on to pursue my dreams outside the country.

Thank you for bringing this topic cause it's something that is sensitive but it's a reality. Sometimes you marry someone because you have seen something good on him but when time goes on, you realize that you don't share the same perspective and goals about the future. I always say that some people are addicted to poverty, they are fine with the way they live and what they have because they grew up like that but on the other hand you grew up in the same situation but you want your life and that of your children to be better than what you have when you grew up, guys this is so frustrating

from this session, am going back to school so that my social status can be uplighted, cheiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii, Manuel you have really explained my life, i was dumped by two social class guys simply because of my self esteem which was soooooooo poor, i couldn't express my self in his family gatherings, would seat in one place poorly dressed, at one family event i was called out to usher the other guests simply because i looked different from them, Kyanuma🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣, i thought they wanted the good manners... kumbe...kneeling and being humble is not what was required. Am on an assignment to have it simplier for my children👌👌👌👌, They have joined Chess, they have joined social events just to get connections.... for the money to fund them, it will come. naye balina okufuna obulamu bwenasubwaaaa...

Thanks ladies for your submissions. Nabacwa, you said it well when you said that you asked yourself if that's what you would really put up with when you're dating a middle class guy. I believe a class is a mindset. I didn't grow up in a high class family and from my childhood, I well knew that that's not where I belong. Right now, I can confidently say that I'm in an upper middle class moving more because that where I wanna be and it's the energy I have put into the universe. Would I marry a below average person than my class? If they have potential, ability and they believe in themselves to elevate to my standard, Yes. Nabacwa, I can tell you're well brought up given your background and the way you carry yourself. You're so humble, respectful and knowledgeable. I can't get tired of giving you your flowers .

Thank you Pumla for the intro! however, you have forgotten the social class of Ethnicity, in some societies it is even more powerful and significant than any other social classes. Financial status and Education are secondary to how good your clan is. But I understand that is a very hard part to penetrate for now😂 I am enjoying thank you ladies

You are right about ethnicity in the reality but as you intimated, it isn't something we can delve into here

Ethnicity is a social construct but it is usually used as an excuse; if someone is of a higher social status ( especially financially and by a great margin) most families will over look the ethnicity aspect.

@@pumlanabachwa8668 As a really big fan, let me start by saying I love you😁and it is with this same love that I'm going to disagree with you. Ethnicity is a giant minefield, but I believe the time is ripe for us as Africans (in our different countries) to delve into the harshness of it, face it and fight it. Because spade a spade, discriminating ourselves on this front is holding us back in many areas. Yes we have differences, but I'm pained that to this day we still see our differences as separating factors rather than unique factors to appreciate and celebrate.
