Athletes curse in every sport but in Formula 1, the TV director decides to play the radio messages that include the swearing. It’s ridiculous to punish drivers for swearing.

Ben Sulayem expecting athletes not to curse in a sport is almost as out of touch of him thinking rap music is the one genre of music with vulgarities. To be fair, Max had the incident due to a press conference but I fully expect F1 to regulate language in team radios if they begin pushing on this clampdown. Never leave a dollar unturned when it comes to the FIA and F1, no matter what it means to the sport. F1 is a business first, entertainment second and sport last.
@mitchdesertsquiddogaming9 сағат бұрын
The FIA are seriously making up authoritarian rules to suit their puritanical needs rather than making F1 exciting, this is why F1 needs to dump the FIA and get another body to take the issues plaguing modern F1 seriously like Indy Racing League or IMSA.
@koukilouki13059 сағат бұрын
How is an athlete suppose to express themselves and their opinion freely if you limit their freedom of expression? Swearing is an everyday part of life, there's no avoiding it.

Absolutely punish it. Everyone in the family should be able to enjoy F1 "live" - carcams included. Drivers are extremely well paid to represent their team brand to the media. Most would actually drive for free. Big bucks for big PR. They know they are in the public eye. Would you want a dentist that swears a lot? The whole teams are role models while in the paddock. Team fines! Drivers get a 1 race ban. And reserve drivers suddenly become 10X more important! haha Bonus: They could stop delaying team radio messages by 5 seconds. We always hear Box Box after the driver has entered the pit lane or that a car is 2 secs behind just as it's passing.
@geoffmacey87287 сағат бұрын
Swearing in a press conference NO. On the track okay within reason but why broadcast it?
@dangall6649 сағат бұрын

Max is Dutch and as a fellow Dutchman I have to say that we use a lot of English swear words in Dutch because they don’t sound as rude (to us!) as the Dutch equivalent. Also on Dutch radio and TV swearing is never beeped out nor will any TV professional ever apologise for the swear words used by a guest. Swearing isn’t considered good taste but we leave it at that. Max could and perhaps should learn not to swear but I think we should keep in mind that when drivers are racing they are full of adrenaline and I don’t think we should judge them for using ‘colourful language’ at those times).

Swearing on an interview, yes, but on the radio FFS no, if they don't like it, don't air it, they're only worried about their precious income. Shit isn't considered Swearing in many languages, English isn't the only language out there and I say that as an Englishman.

Like Lando said, in the modern world of social media where you can virtually say anything, if the FIA says the drivers have to stop swearing, I believe that’s just going to make the comments over the radio “fake” and FAR less entertaining. As an American race fan, I say, let them say what they want when the helmet is on. It creates more excitement, talking points, etc. Plus, there’s a delay, so it’s not hard for the FIA/broadcast to bleep it out. With that said, when they’re out of the car and in a press conference, they should control their wording. That’s expected. But PLEASE DON’T TAME THINGS DOWN WHEN THE HELMET IS ON! Trust me, they will lose a lot of the fan base that is growing this sport in America and other big markets.
