Figures out today reveal that more than 50 pubs a month closed in the first half of the year.
Many have been repurposed as homes, offices or even nurseries - some have been demolished altogether.
It's been one thing after another this decade - first the Covid pandemic which saw pubs closed for months during lockdown, then sky-rocketing inflation putting up energy bills alongside a cost of living crisis.

I can buy a beautiful bottle of wine for a tenner in the supermarket yet in a pub id get a crappy bottle of plonk for 20 quid in a crappy glass. It is sad to see them go though.

Why does the public have to bail out the private sector every damn time. Grow up and accept thr consequences of the failure to adapt to the times. Why MUST the government do anything other than increase the quality of our life?

Hell no. People before pubs. If anything's to be saved, surely it ought to be our pensioners. There used to be pubs on almost every street corner. We walked to them and they were sociable. They didn't serve any food (other than crisps and peanuts). We went home to eat. And no taxi fare to get there and back. Yes pubs serve hot drinks now too, but not many of us want the stink of a beer sodden carpet as we drink them. No, no, no, students don't go into neighbourhood pubs. They go out at 11pm having tanked up in the Student Union bars and then are young enough to walk to CLUBS. They aren't interested in pubs.

Yes ' most if not all of our pubs on council astates have been demolished & turned into flats or car parks ' all we see now are weatherspoons ' & you only have to fart in one of these posher pubs ' & your banned 🤷‍♂️
