VERY good video. I wish all groomers and owners would watch this. I have watched some grooming video's to learn how to groom my Eskie but got turned off by how some groomers seemed clueless to what the dog is going through and sometimes were more interested in almost bragging how they could get a job done while acting like the what the dog is going through is fine when it wasn't and even seemed traumatic. They are just overconfident and clueless.

I got a dog with a very mixed coat. Head like a mop and bald in other areas. I shaved the lot down to one length to get an overall tidiness and to treat some wounds then again with a comb to level up when it had grown a bit. Once it’s all thick and re-established, I’m keeping her short. And I’m doing it myself. To hell with the trendy thing. I have a slicker brush which she HATES. I HAD A GO WITH IT ON MY HEAD AND I UNDERSTAND WHY.

Absolutely not. Shave it, shave it, shave it. I hate the way people worship coat like this. Grooming is an exhausting process for both dog and groomer. The coat grows back. I also can’t stand how PPs start CRYING after a shave down (and god forbid the overgrown, gross looking eyelashes got clipped a bit when working on the face). Then they go to social media and blast groomers. I don’t like the shaving of double coated dogs at the owner’s behest, but even then, if a Great Pry is THAT matted, I think the thing that matters most is getting the groom done with ASAP. Especially because the majority of dogs I see are severely uncomfortable with standing and constantly want to sit all the time either because they’re overweight, or have joint issues or both.

As a diy home groomer I would love to have a perfectly looking groomed doodle. However mats are a part of our life because I just can’t brush him everyday, so a wonky happy dog who enjoys being groomed is what we get instead 😂 When we have our regular grooming sessions (not the hair cuts) any mats get shaved off. You can definitely see bald spot but oh well. He doesn’t like having them detangled and doing it is only a cosmetic thing. Then when it’s time for the cut he doesn’t have any tangles for the shaver to get past, he doesn’t have to stand forever, and is cooperative. When we were getting started sometimes I would only shave a 1/4 of him because he had negative associations with the razor. Imagine how that looks on a fluffy boy😂 He’d have only 1 shaved leg and shoulder. Or shaved legs but crazy puffy feet. But he was happy during the session and that was so much more important than a perfect teddy bear look. Now more often the not he’ll participate in a full session and I’m so glad I didn’t get any messages that I should be doing more. I would still love a follow up video on how to do the sanitary though - it makes me incredibly nervous.

Excellent video, shave the dog, the parents should have been maintaining that coat in the first place! I can hazard to guess they hardly know how to maintain it as well but nope, blame the groomer that did the right thing. Also, what if there is bruising, sores, already at the skin, and a groomer is going to further that pain, NOPE!
