As Luther said, Satan cannot take scorn. I speak plainly to whoever I speak to. Him included. He gets told about his vile self, and his future. Only, ONLY, by Christ, are we even able to breath, or eat, or walk, or exist. I could not live with myself, if I did not scorn him. The ruiner of humanity. But, I scorn myself worse, as it is ME, who commits the sin. He cannot force us to do anything. So I'm harder on myself than him . I have actual arguments with him. Always it is written.

Helpful teaching. The Bible contains examples of Christians, both apostles and non-apostles, expelling demons/evil spirits from people. There is no good reason to think that there is no place for doing this today. Importantly, in Scripture expelling demons is often done by speaking to them, and, again, there is no good reason to think that things should be any different today. Also, as John Piper notes, James 4:7 says: 'Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.' It would seem strange for this resisting the devil not to involve speaking to him at all. So, yes, there are times to speak to Satan, or more usually to demons, who we believe are attacking us or afflicting others.

@@michaelbirke6050 It isn't actually the case that only God and Jesus spoke to Satan. Jude 1:9 is explicit that Michael spoke directly to Satan himself with the words, 'The Lord rebuke you.' Matt 10:8 and Mark 6:13 imply that the apostles spoke to demons to command them to come out of people. Luke 10:17 implies that the 72 disciples did the same. And Paul speaks to a demon in Acts 16:18. There is also John 14:11-12, which says that Christians can expect to do the miracles that Jesus did. And we know that he expelled a lot of demons by speaking to them. As far as Satan's authority is concerned, in one sense Satan has no authority over us. But in the sense of being able to do bad things to us, he does have this authority. We are told in Scripture to fight against him, and this would be a meaningless command if he weren't able to do bad things to us. So, for example, 1 Pet 5:8-9 says: 'Be sober-minded, be alert. Your adversary the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour. Resist him, firm in the faith, knowing that the same kind of sufferings are being experienced by your fellow believers throughout the world.' (CSB) Jesus, of course, is our role model in many ways. So when we read that Jesus resisted Satan by speaking to him (e.g., Matt 4:1-11), and then when we see in 1 Pet 5:9 and James 4:7 that we are commanded to resist him, it makes sense to think that we should also resist by speaking to him. Or, since it is almost never Satan himself who attacks us in person, but evil spirits under his command, I would say that most commonly we should speak to them, commanding them to leave etc.

But the Bible contains examples of Christians speaking to Satan and to demons. It isn't the case that our heavenly Father always does this for us. So, for example, in Luke 10 Jesus sends out 72 of His disciples to do various things including expelling demons from people. He could have just done this Himself, but He chose to work through His followers. And the same is true today.

Laws have a permanence that transcend election cycles. They do not usually change overnight. They establish trajectories that determine what a country is, and where it is headed. Piper writes: “Christians communicate a falsehood to unbelievers…when we act as if policies and laws that protect life and freedom are more precious than being a certain kind of person.” Piper has it 180 degrees backwards. Laws protecting life and freedom will determine the direction of our country long after Trump, or any other politician, is a distant memory. Laws that protect life and freedom ARE precious.
