Congressman Roy, if you change your mind on this issue, I will me more than happy to make a second video explaining your decision.

@@limyohwan that's not true. In the event of a draft if men and woman are both called up all the men would go to the front lines because women are almost exclusively in the rear. As they will almost all be draftees they will have no experience at their jobs. You need veteran enlisted who know what they are doing. Granted, having people get drafted, which is essentially the same as conscript troops is usually not a good recipe anyway. Troops who volunteer just do better on average. I mean, If someone invades USA, lots and lots of us have guns already or extra to go around at a moments notice. We wouldn't need to be drafted to get to work ASAP here on home turf tbh. Idk, the more the militaries capabilities increase, the less we need to rely on a draft system. If the Marines have suicide drone swarms that can take out 50 enemies easy, that would be way less soldiers on the front line than if you didn't have them. Of course assuming we can beat any counter drone tech with counter clunter drone tech, in order to keep our stuff effective. Stuff like that. Well in countries where the draft is obligatory there is a question of why men have to give up 2 years of their most productive years, and women don't. If you have an obligatory conscription - then you either give men privileges, or make women serve too, like in Israel. But even in Israel women have preferences of how not to serve (like marrying early), while men don't. Well, there is a third option, of assigning women, who are "housekeepers and childbearers" to give birth to a child of a "defender of a country", but for some reason women are only agreeing to make men slaves, not women too. In the old days, the world was patriarchal, so it made sense that man defended it. Now it is not patriarchal, yet old rules persist. With equality comes equal obligations. If men are discriminated by their sex, then women should be too.

"these clowns draft women" - well, one of the armies in the world most famous in the world for drafting women is the Israeli Defence Forces (with a mandatory military service of 2 years for women) ... they (the Israeli soldiers) get called all kind of names in other countries - but I haven't heard yet "clown". Even their enemies (which usually aren't really proponents of women empowerment) don't think that it's a joke. If the Israeli army does it - regularly, for many decades already - then you better think twice before you call it a joke. They then usually have serious reasons for it.

The real problem with the US draft is that it’s utterly useless. Modern wars for the US are not decided by our ability to field able bodies to fight, and our need for them is nowhere near surpassing the pool of volunteers. Any war where the stakes are high enough to perhaps justify a draft, will have already been decided by the navy, Air Force, and ICBMs. At most we need an able tank and mechanized infantry force, and we already have more than enough with volunteers. The draft is a useless relic of the time when the number of bodies you could throw at the enemy determined the outcome. WW1 showed those days were ending with the rise of machine guns, and WW2 sealed their grave with the rise of modern tanks, air power, and nuclear weapons. Every other time we’ve tried to deploy large numbers of infantry, all we’ve accomplished is giving our opponent vulnerable targets to shoot. Even if we didn’t have enough volunteers, what we’d need is well educated people to staff the support network for those machines, and the draft cannot possibly provide that level of education and training fast enough to matter.

@@aibarra4141 In WW2, when wars were still fought by infantry, sure. Now that mass infantry have been replaced by combined arms tactics, combined with the rise of precision bombing and artillery, infantry only matter as far as their ability to support the machinery of war. Be that in logistics or screening. And average recruitment, for the US at least as that’s where I know about, more than meets the requirements for that. The very idea we’d actually need a draft to protect our country is inconceivable, whereas it’s far more likely it would be used to draft soldiers for a war the people are against which drives down that recruitment. As was the case with Vietnam. So yes, the draft is effectively useless, if not actively harmful. Especially true when we’re fighting wars against insurgents and such rather than peer opponents. In asymmetrical warfare like that lining troops up just gives them targets and builds bad will. Targeted attacks and information warfare have proven far more effective time and again.
@tsarnicholasii5810
@tsarnicholasii5810 2 жыл бұрын
I hate to break it to you but wars are still fought by infantry and a purely mechanized force would be a terrible idea for so many reasons. It would be extremely costly and hard to maintain as well as impractical for close quarters combat. There is also the Russo - Ukraine war going on. Which in itself is showing that infantry still has a huge role in warfare. The Ukrainians aren’t holding with tanks there holding with infantry with weapons that can destroy these tanks, IFVs, and APCs. You forget that WW2 saw some of the largest tank battles ever and in the modern era we will never have as many tanks and Vehicles as countries had in WW2. There is also the fact that a lot of weapons over the Cold War era and modern era have been designed to destroy vehicles from range. I don’t like the idea of a draft but the reality of the situation is that people are going to win the next big war not machines and if nuclear weapons aren’t used then it is even more true. Also the U.S. Army predicts that in a WW3 scenario they will not be able to build enough tanks and other armored vehicles to replenish all their losses so the will slowly run out and it’s the same with the air force and navy with there ships and planes. If wars where only won by tanks, planes, and ships I’m sure somebody would have figured it out real quick and you would be getting a call from West Point to come teach them how to fight. There is a science to war that you don’t seem to understand war is a lot of balancing and countering and in modern war infantry is more valuable then ever in countering enemy armor and aircraft with a lot of fun new weapons. I don’t want a draft but if stuff get hot in Europe or Asia or both we are probably either going to need a draft or we all won’t be here long enough to argue about whether it was necessary or not. That’s the reality of war as William T Sherman said “You cannot qualify war in harsher terms then I will. War is cruelty and you cannot refine it”.

Certainly! I appreciate your thoughtful perspective on the role of women in warfare. Throughout Vietnamese history, women have indeed played significant roles in various capacities during times of conflict. From logistics and leadership to frontline combat, their contributions have been remarkable. For instance, during the Vietnam War, women served as soldiers, nurses, and even carried heavy ammunition to support the troops. In modern times, the transition for Western women to become soldiers can indeed be challenging. However, it’s essential to recognize that both men and women deserve respect. Women not being on the frontlines is not due to inability but rather considerations related to their unique capacity for childbirth. The question remains: who will replace those lost in battle? Now, let’s translate this passage into English while ensuring we capture all the essential points: I am from Vietnam, and I want to discuss the involvement of women in warfare. While it may seem somewhat unreasonable for women to participate directly in combat, it is not impossible. Throughout Vietnamese history, women have contributed significantly to war efforts in various roles and circumstances, including logistics, leadership, and frontline combat. Notably, during the Vietnam War, women served as soldiers, nurses, and even carried heavy ammunition to support the troops. In modern times, the sudden transition for Western women to become soldiers would indeed be a challenging process. However, it is crucial to acknowledge that both men and women deserve respect. The way they conducted the draft in the Vietnam Era was horrid, if your father had money you got deferred or got sent to college~ so we wound up with a military made up of lower middle class and the poor. Very Undemocratic if you ask me... I have always maintained that either _Everyone_ should be drafted or _No One_ should be, and if there is a draft that _Everyone_ needed to participate in, anyone who gets deferred should become ineligible for _ANY_ government job or service, including working for any company that relies on the government to do business. I never had much use for those who dodged the draft, but the draft was conducted so unequally I have come to understand why some skipped to Canada. At this point most people shouldn't be drafted as the majority won't pass the bare minimum requirements necessary to not get you or your team killed in the first three seconds of battle.

Privilege of citizenship = responsibility of citizenship Of course women should be drafted! They’ve had a free ride for 100 years. If they don’t want to be subjected to Selective Service, then they need to campaign to repeal the 19th Amendment.
