Thanks for helping me fix up my twitch, I haven't started yet but I'm hoping to and I'm hoping my twitch looks better than it did as I think it does, I'm wanting to play story games my first being subnautica I'm not sure if it counts as variety but if you do reply can you answer me if my second playthrough of subnautica is worth streaming, will others find it entertaining?

Big streamers started niche down with a specific game.. dont know anyone skyrocket from variety to be honest… everyone started with a game they grind until they move off to another or variety once they got big loyal audiences

I definitely think experimenting and analysis of the results is worthwhile for many streamers. Not only for statistical data, but for real experience. It's better than assuming why something can or can't work (very guilty of that myself). Seems like a good plan

Cool plan! I think you could be very successful as a variety streamer doing just chatting streams about different cool topics, since that's what your channel is focused on. I am a chatting and music streamer who sometimes plays games. I find most variety game streamers are often sticking to one genre of game, such as platformers or RPGs. I think these two genres work pretty well, but if you are jumping from one FPS or passionate fanbase game to another one or a totally different genre of game (aka valorant to zelda to fall guys) you are gonna be in for a bad time. The only thing holding me back is a space where i can be loud and express all the joys and what not (my living space has no sound isolation and the people i live with like it quiet). This also effects the consistency of me streaming (about once a month rn), but I still pull some people in every stream. Hoping to move soon so i can do what i want as loud as I want (considering i wanna be playing music and singing loudly this is a real hindrance).

Hey Dan, good luck on this part of your journey. A pro of streaming 1 game is you can really adapt your stream to that game and you get to enjoy the creativity of making that type of content as good as you can get it. Also, templates and other stuff to speed up your workflows, so you can get some time back for yourself. Do what makes you happy, I’ll try catch a few streams when your back. Good luck!

As someone who goes to therapy, I would go legit crazy if I play the same game/genre every day. That's my dilemma. I need variety in life. Oh sheeeshhh 😂

I feel that for sure! But sometimes you just find a game that can offer a lot of variety content in itself! We will have to see how I feel when the month is out!

I went from complete variety to a single game streamer awhile back. I did enjoy the boost I got from regulars showing up for that same game each time, however I quickly found myself hating the game I chose to play. It just became very boring to me and I was just going through the motions. Recently I decided to do variety horror streaming with an emphasis on psychological horror games. So I’m sticking to the niche of horror games but with the ability to switch games. I’m really enjoying that even though I’m going through another round of waiting for my viewers to return to an equilibrium after the change.

I'm a one genre streamer. Which is horror. So I keep everything within the horror niche and it works better than way.

I started Twitch/YT with one game but after a few months I found out that I can't push myself to focus on one game only. Personally, I can't find easily anymore a game that I like so much that I can focus only to it. Time will tell how it will go :)

Another great video dude. No one really talks about this! I'm a dead by daylight streamer and I'm trying to be a variety streamer but everytime I play something else my small viewer base drops off completely! I think your video has really driven home the point that I've been trying to avoid.

I'm extremely picky but I feel you on this, variety is the spice of life after all. I'd love to do variety but I understand it doesn't work and for that reason I'm hindering my own growth, for me I would still love to keep something fresh so I've been waiting and copium on a new great MMO because they are expansive so I wont get bored, problem with that is the obvious, they don't come out often and the ones that do are just meh. I'm stuck in a rut!

I started off as a Sims 4 streamer but moved over to Fallout 4 - ever since, I’ve focused on open world RPGs, and it has been a great decision. I don’t get bored, and most of my viewers know about all the games I play! So I did niche down, but not to just a single game. :)

I'm not really sure if I'd count myself as a "variety streamer" but I most definitely don't stick to just one game. I guess you could say I'm a "Theme" streamer? I have two days where I stream art, and two days where I stream horror or creepy games. I'll play each game to completion before moving on to the next one, but I always stick to the same genre. I think this is a good middle ground, since those that enjoy horror tend to stick around for the next game in the roster but I don't get bored either! As for my KZbin content, it's somewhat similar. I read RPG Horror Stories as well as narrate Lovecraft stories, which kind of sticks a toe into the horror aspect of my streaming without just being VODs. I also sometimes upload TTRPG sessions which ties in with the RPG Horror Stories. So...Variety with a theme?

I got like 15 followers after one year of variety streaming, and all of those who didn't unfollow after a few months rarely ever showed up again in my streams. It's really hard if not impossible to start from zero by just streaming complete variety. Of course, it's not easy switching games if you are an "one game streamer", but at least you got your few core viewers who watch you regardless.

I started off as just an Overwatch streamer. I started to get burnt out and was afraid I’d lose all my viewers. I did a poll and asked them if they were there for the content being OW, or because of the streamer. Everyone responded with, “We don’t care what you play. We’re here to see you.” Now, I do notice that if I play OW I get a bigger audience than Hearthstone. If I play Detroit Become Human, I get a different bigger audience. And when I do my Art stream, it’s all over the place. For me, variety is still working. However, I am experimenting with each streaming day being consistent. For instance: Art on Tuesday. Wildcard Wednesday (chance for me to choose anything), OW on Thursday. Detroit Become Human on Sunday. This gives my viewers a chance to see me with different styles and moods, but also can choose a game to follow my progression.

Recently I’ve been playing a lot of Minecraft on my channel, but recently I’ve noticed that my viewership is significantly dropping from around 10-14 to now 3-4. I’ve been trying to branch out and play different genres of the game but I’m not finding anything that’s working so far. If anyone would have any advice on what I could do I’d appreciate any feedback and I’ll try to take in onboard.! (I only stream once a week and I’m not able to do more than once usually so that might be why idk)

So this will get long again, I'm bad at shutting up. Sorry, Dan for always ranting in your comments, but you make me think and I enjoy thinking! I began streaming January of this year. I started after watching and engaging with and becoming part of a lot of Dead by Daylight streamers communities. I thought "Hey! I love Dead by Daylight, I play it all the time and I used to do youtube recordings so I'm comfortable chatting away to no one in-particular." So I decided to stream Dead by Daylight, do an every other day grind in January and got affiliated pretty quick. And I think what I learned was that sticking to a single game, and being part of the communities and making a name for yourself in that category is an AMAZING way to increase Loyal Viewers. People who show up when you're live every time they are free because you've built a rapport with them and they like hanging out. I still MOSTLY play Dead by Daylight now, but I've discovered when I don't feel like playing Dead by Daylight, those Loyal Viewers are thrilled to come in and see me playing something different too. Variety is great for bringing in new people, but it's not the best at creating Loyal Viewers. Consistently streaming a certain game can definitely lead to boredom and burn-out but if you've built that loyal viewership, you're still going to get numbers if you play something different once in a while. Being able to intergate into a community of a game that is constantly updating and bringing in its own new fans is an amazing way to build your own community. I'm not even good at keeping my schedule, I've take tons of days off from my usual schedule, but even-so my chat is never lonely when I come back. Streaming DBD consistently feels like it was a great choice for me. And I'm thrilled that I can take breaks and still get support from the loyal people who've grown to enjoy my community for the community and not just the game I'm playing.

to be honest - tarkov was the only reason I stopped watching you for a while. it's a russian game and popularization of it supports their aggression against ukraine. no offence, just wanted you to know it's not that innocent game you might think

@@AriGatoVT the devs are the ones paying the taxes for the rockets on ukrainians' heads, so it's much worse than for them to be fighting. and they openly speak about supporting the Crimea annexation, they put anti Ukrainian propaganda in their ad campaigns etc. my comment is almost two years old and during that time the devs have gotten worse and worse.
