I owned a 2013 328i x with timing chain clatter by 88000 miles using Pennzoil euro spec L 5w30 LL-04 til car was totaled. Have 2017 320i x bought with 23000 miles now at 45000 miles with newer timing chain guide engine.. recommended 0w20..searched out SP rated euro oils for better protection and less calcium for lspi.Castrol 5w40 euro sp runs smooth.. Quaker state 5w40 euro is a good choice high flash point low noak volatility..both can help with dealing with fuel dilution that happens with short trips. I will try Mobil 1 new European 5w30 FS sp engine test rated next as in winter oil temp takes 15 mins or so to move up from 160 on gauge. I change oil every 3 months or 2000 miles to prevent the problems I experienced with previous engine...oil is cheap.. BMW already has enough of my money

Don’t buy it, go with his inline 6 recommendation. The stress points on the chain guide are very thin, the chain tensioner can only go so far, the chain stretches to no-end, you need a lift, an engine lift, replace the oil pump chain at same time, and if it’s ‘x’ drive you need to drop the subframe. $6k at the dealer or be certain the guides and chain have already been replaced. BMW did change the guide material and design for the 2016.

I agree, save up the extra 10-20% more cost and get the 335/340!

Where I live the 335i is like double the price of the 328i
@TenzaMotorsportsАй бұрын
Where are you from that they are that far apart in price? Here a good clean 320/328 can be found for 10-15k and a 335 can be found for 15-20

@TenzaMotorsports Ontario Canada, 328i usually run around 10k or under, 320i can be even cheaper. 335i are usually 22-24k. If you are going F-series. E-series are basically the same price though.
