This is actually Brian May's at home practice amp. In the videos where he uses it it has the sticker's removed, so you don't know it's a Yamaha(not this model tho he used the one without Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.). But the grill gives it away. All during lockdown I thought this model of Yamaha's are great thanks to someone who doesn't use Yamaha's wink wink.

Tried this out in Japan last week and absolutely loved it. It was so easy to use and all the sounds are like "that sound" you want to get. I think the simplicity enhances the pleasure of playing when you don't have to think about tweaking so many things.

I love watching reviews of gear I allready own...best way to fight GAS. This amp makes me (want to) play every single day, even at home, that alone to me is worth the price of admission. It also amplifies my record player and all bluetooth devices, and even my wife thinks it looks great in the living room. One of the best pieces of gear I've purchased in a while.

What the THR 30 gives you that many other "desktop modeling" practice amps don't, is stereo line out options. To me this is a plus in that you can run the amp into the PA front of house or to a couple of powered cabinets and use it for live venues. The spark may have more of a library of effects and options for where those effects stack in your signal chain, but it does not have line outs allowing you to use the amp as a head unit to slaved powered cabinets. As to the difference in cost between the THR 30 and others like the Katana 50, Spark 40, and the Nux is that Yamaha makes very high quality gear with exceptional quality voicing, and does not bloat the amp with so many digital recreations that are only mediocre. You get professional build and sound quality that reacts to artist input the way that rack or stacks style systems do. To me a plethora of options is great in theory but if the options are only mediocre quality what's the point? You can get studio worthy sounds out of the THR which IMO makes the extra cost worth it. Dial in your sound at home, save it, pack up your guitar and amp, and then go to the studio and lay down those same sounds without having to worry about trying to replicate it using a different rig. Please do not take this as a diss on other desktop amps or modeling units because I have used Katana and Spark amps to broaden my creativity and reinvigorate my song writing; I am merely saying that if you want professional quality in such a styled platform, IMO, the THR is more suitable to such a challenge as an all in one compact combo.

The best desktop and practice amp out there. Sounds so much better than the Spark or other small amps. The Line Out into a PA or power side of an amp is great as well and you could totally gig with that set up. The wireless transmitter works flawlessly. And the App is very straightforward, works great, makes sense and doesn’t require a $1000 laptop to work. Bluetooth connection to your phone or tablet sends great sounding audio to it for practicing or just listening to music. As you can tell, I really love this amp. (And, btw, I owned a Spark which sounded awful and had glitchy software, and terrible customer support and also used the small Katana which is simple to use but still can’t match the sound of the THR). Yamaha also updates the firmware and supports the product.

I was trying to get the THR10 last year but it was out of stock everywhere at the time. Got the THR30 instead. It was double the price (or so) but worth every penny. I bought one about a week ago. Instantly intuitive, great sounds. I did find that the 5 presets sound very effects bypass-like. Very straight into amp tone. Once you get into the channel selection, even without effects, still sounded “enhanced.” The 5 presets sounded more amp like to my ears. Processed sounds are great, but there are times I want to actually hear what my pickups sound like organically. I love that I get both in the Yamaha, which was what I thought was lacking in the Spark 40. The Spark 40 lacked dynamics, and delayed responsiveness. That was even with the compressor turned off. Felt like my guitar was lip-syncing. Love everything about this Yamaha. Worth the money, and I opted for the Line6 transmitter. Again, worth the extra cost to be wireless.

Have both the Yamaha THR3011 and Spark 40. To me, the biggest advantage of the THR3011 is it is battery powered. Very convenient! The Spark 40 software is much more sophisticated allowing you to dial in more tones, amp models and pedals. The only thing missing is spring reverb and it is on the warm side, but it is rated at 40W. On the other hand, I get all the tones I need from the THR3011 and it is plenty loud at 30W. I find myself using the THR3011 more than the Spark 40. There is a pretty big price difference. I would like to see a side by side if you can.

As a gigging musician who lives in an apartment in NYC where space is a premium, this thing rules. The fact that I can take it outside or anywhere around the house is awesome, and the Line 6 bug makes that less arduous cause I dont have to mess with cables flopping everywhere. Headphones are nice when I want to be loud but not bother anyone, and the USB out is so sick as an interface. I get my favorite recorded sounds from it. I also use it as a bluetooth speaker for parties. I admit it is expensive though, but that was worth it to me for all of the features. It honestly feels like this amp was made specifically for me. Love it

Cool! I'm thinking about upgrading my old Thr10. The one selling point that you didn't mention is that the usb isn't just for messing with the app or updating the firmware, it is also a great audio interface! I just plug this into my mac and Garageband or Pro Tools automatically recognises it. I can use the Yamaha sounds and/or a flat signal with plug-ins for a great quality, quick recording.

I got the THR10II thinking I could sell my 3 THR10's (classic, modern, extreme).... but in reality the THR10II is clunky to maneuver around. The THR30II has the switch to choose between the 3 amps easily while the THR10II you had to use the phone app. Instead of seeing "Deluxe" or "US Blues" on the modern THR10 knowing its a fender deluxe etc, you now have to map "Clean modern" "clean crunch" or whatever to it. SO I returned the THR10ii. The bigger speakers on the THR30II have always interested me since I play bass thru the THRs on the bass channel. Other cons: they should have a badge on the front identifying the model. There are 3 or 4 THR ii's and its hard to know which is which. They should have made the 30ii red or something completely different.

Have this and love it, overall. Easy to see and use physical controls, lots of options with no phone or computer needed. I do find the sounds erratic and sort of metallic, and the 3.5 inch speakers are easily overwhelmed. For me, as a home hobbyist, the strength is that it allows for very low volume playing, even at full gain. I use with a Line6 Relay and with that and the built-in battery the portability is nuts -- you can take it to another room or outside completely unplugged, no cables whatsoever. A keeper for me although I wouldn't mind also having a real amp with attenuation.

I recently just got a 100 watt katana MKII and I am struggling so far to find a tone that I like as much as the THR10. Im also having some difficulty regularly connecting to tone studio. I keep considering this practice amp. The issues I see are: 1) There are numerous reports the transmitter is terrible. 2) If I want to go from rhythm or crunch to lead, this simply won't work-as there is no spillover; and if a wireless bluetooth pedal is incorporated a bluetooth mobile device won't work simultaneously.

Ever since I got a Katana mk2 100w head, and found out there is a built in practice speaker in it, I have never seen the need for a practice amp anymore. The Katana head can be a practice amp, a studio amp, and an actual powerful gigging amp, all in one. The Spark, Yamaha, etc are not powerful enough to do that. And the Katana has even more great sounding effects than the Spark, or Yamaha, or other practice amps. It’s not much more expensive either. No contest in my opinion.

I have a THR30, and I think it's got its charm and uses. I agree with the people who said it sounds more like a recorded version of an amp than an actual amp. That has benefits though, as when jamming to tracks over bluetooth, it blends nicely. I have taken this to a band practice that the drummer wasn't going at...the drummer showed up, and the little Yamaha was actually loud enough to hear myself...however; it sounded thin and anemic compared to the Fenders and Marshalls I'm used to, and I wished I had brought any of my other amps... (In the THR's defense, I wouldn't say that was it's intended purpose. ) I have also had great results in taking the little THR out to the shore of a lake, and rocking out. For recording, I don't use it much for guitar, but I like using it for both recording bass and bringing in reference tracks to my DAW. (through bluetooth play) The wireless aspect wasn't that impressive to me, as my line6 relay g10 had a lot of signal loss/coloration I didn't like, and the transmitter broke pretty quickly. I much prefer my old, trusty Audio Technica belt-pack wireless/receiver that connects to any amp, and has its own gain control. As a bluetooth speaker, the THR is great. I don't use it as an interface through usb at all. My conclusions: it's awesome for being portable, and is a versatile practice rig. I think the THR is twice as expensive as it should be, but I'm not young, and I think that about a lot of stuff...

Loved your video man! Truly! Very helpful. Few comments/suggestions: You best placing the second cam in front of amp, not back. This way we can read how you dial the knobs and it won't get upsidedown. If you don't mind doing a follow up video showing the app (phone app, or desktop/laptop app) that will be great as well. If you can even show if/how we can record the amp using the software (if it's even possible) that will be even better. Lastly, a question: what did you mean about the wireless Line6 transmitter? it isn't part of this amp and I didn't see you used it in the video so a bit unclear what you meant when you said that. Yo man, great video again, it looks like a great amp. Great channel.

you don't have to use the line 6 wireless, plug your no-name brand wireless receiver into the 1/4" input jack and the transmitter into your guitar and you are wireless

Bought the original THR10 and 10C a few years ago. Sold them. But quickly realized what a great practice amp they were (after trying the spark and katana). Bought another THR10 and it’s truly the best desk top practice amp around IMO. Really don’t think the new models are better aside from the modern, classic, and boutique switches that can be replicated with the THR online tone app and saved. Also disappointed that “intheblues” didn’t play any blues or rock aside from high gain sounds. Makes me wonder if the amp isn’t really that good on those modes.

Believe the hype. I own one. The amp sounds beautiful for cleans and light gain tones. Does acoustic well too. It doesn’t do metal great though. You really need to build your presets though through the app to get the most out of it. For the price, they should include the wireless dongle though. Great for playing with backing tracks too. I like it better than my spark. I use it as my travel amp.

I was able to get some decent to good metal tones with the right guitar...but man it took a lot more fiddling than all the other tones.

If you're watching this video and considering purchasing this amp, I say you can go ahead and buy it without fear of regret. I just got one yesterday and I love it. One of the best music gear purchases I've made in a while.

I have one of the original thr10's. Perfect for home use. It sees more action than my tube amp and spark. It outlived my katana also. I have a cheap Bluetooth receiver plugged in for backing tracks and a line 6 wireless unit for the guitar. So convenient, takes up little room and looks and sounds great. The new units are a bit pricey imo though

A bit pricey? That's an understatement. $750 is a lot to pay for a practice amp like this.

When our son went to Uni to study music, we bought him a 5- string Yamaha bass and he still uses it. Anything Yamaha is good! I've seen a lot of reviews of these amps, and most can't make it sing like Shane did! That said, I'm not sure whether it is as versatile as as some of it's competitors and personally, it'd be great if it had a drum/ rythum accompaniment. Sadly, the sticker price is a turn off.

The sound is actually even better than your demo here. The amp is stereo and you only have the mic on one speaker so you’re not getting the true stereo spread. It really fills the room and is LOUD 😀

Nice amp, versatile. Portable battery power and wall power adapter. All around good amp however at twice the price of the spark I was disappointed there was no looper or foot switch, that would have completed the package and justified the heavy price tag for the little amp. Microphone 🎤 option and line out where definitely a plus. Video as all in the blues was excellently presented, detailed and produced. When it comes to product review videos; in the blues is the standard for all to follow. Great video Shane!

I have the thr-30, and it's really good. I also have a Katana air... It's a matter of taste, but I usually prefer the katana. I go back and forth. Between the two, I barely touch my collection of expensive, big, loud, heavy amps...

It would be nice if you tested the quality of the headphone jack too. Putting a grade out of 10 on each close-up amp would allow us to consider the possibility of making it an overnight amp. For having tested personally, the spark amp is the best on the headphones of those I had in hand, but I don't have the chance to see as much gear as you.

Have one, my best amp for home training by far. I can use it everywhere as amp and bluetooth speaker. And the look is awesome. All my friends love my bluetooth speakers vintage look. 😂 My only negative point, yamaha give me back my lead simulation i had on the thr II. I miss so much this damn plexi sound. 😅 The new lead sound in normal mode is not as good in my opinion.

A non-standard power-supply socket means if you lose the non-standard cable and connector supplied, and don't have at least one spare, you have a brick. So I'd be stocking up on them.

The features and simplicity are mind-blowing, i had it and and it was super fun to play. BUT, there’s something going on with the digital processor and the latency, this particular model was “plastic” feeling when the pick hit the string, especially in the low gain settings. Well worth the price because of features, stereo speakers, quality effects, size and everything, just didn’t make it for me 🤷‍♂️

Would love to see a review of the Spark amp range. A lot of reviews say it's really bass heavy, but is that a deal breaker for a bedroom guitarist that just wants a ton of different tones without having to buy different amps and pedals?

I have the THR 10C and love it, especially on clean or bass. Takes pedals well. But the 30II is expensive when compared with, say, the Katana 100. The Katana can be switched to 0.5W for home use, has lots of in-built effects and editing capability, and an effects loop. But just in terms of the sounds for low volume home use, which is better?
@chrishyde1216
@chrishyde1216 Жыл бұрын
@@The_Invisible_SelfThat's a fair assessment. The Katana is more of a compromise at low volumes as it can go up to gig volumes. Still very good though. I wonder if better plugged into a smaller speaker or studio monitors. BTW there is a work around for an effects loop on the THR, using the line outs.
