The Gen 1 Ford Raptor was a game changer when it came out in 2010 and now with Gen 3 Raptors and the NEW Raptor R coming out, I want to step back in time and see if the Gen 1 Raptor is still viable option in 2022.

Gen 1 owner here. I have a 2014 with 119k on it. SCREW with 36 gallon tank. I did the shock exchange on mine right when i got it, you have to service the shocks ever 10-50k miles..depending on how you drive it. Also the fuel pump relay has to be done on all the GEN 1 trucks from 2011 to 2014..Its still a 20 amp but it has to be relocated. They make a kit for it ..ford even has it but they dont do it for free. Other than those 2 things that i did the truck has been amazing. I have a 5 star tune , true dual exhaust with 40 series flow masters, an S&B CAI. i average in the city 12.5mgp and on the interstate i get about 15.3. Thats with a fully loaded bed, 3 passengers and a 240lb english mastiff named tank. I use a fuel additive on ever other fill up and only run 93 octane which with the tune i have loaded has to be used anyways. I have 0 complaints about the truck. Be prepared for IWE failure due to the vaccum hub engagement, you will know if you have this issue trust me. You can do a delete and use Dorman or go back with OE and keep the vaccum engagement. I love my Raptor and it still turns heads and I always get compliments on the truck.

Great Comment. Thanks for the post... I'll be getting a Gen 1 Raptor this week with just over 50k miles and was just curious about the two items you mentioned...Relay relocation as well as servicing the shocks? How would I know if this is done or not? Is this something Ford handles or can independent service facilities take care of this? Also what is IWE failure and how do I fix it. Sorry about all the questions, I'm trying to crash course on Raptor's and what I need to do when it arrives. Thanks Again!!

@@cdf8821 You can tell if the relocation has been done if there is a fuse in slot 70. There should also be a sticker under the fusebox lid. Shocks are hard to tell if they've been done unless the truck is obviously riding rough. I would say with 50k they probably have not been rebuilt but unless you can ask the previous owner its hard to tell. Texas shock works put a date sticker on mine when I got them rebuilt so you could look for something like that. IWE failure happens when the vaccuum lines going to the hubs get brittle and start to deteriorate, this causes a vaccuum leak and the hubs will partially engage 4wd which will make a grinding noise in 2wd and go away in 4wd. You can get IWE deletes but the CVs will always be spinning... not really necessary unless u offroad alot just check/replace the vacuum lines periodically (like every 25-50k miles). Ford doesn't rebuild shocks, you can do an exchange program like texas shock works or forged offroad or buy them new, alot of guys will also go to the bolt on 3.0s vs the stock 2.5's because they have longer rebuild intervals and ride better on and offroad but youre looking at about $5000 for all 4 corners.

Thanks for posting the video, great job! Glad I am not the only one that feels this way about Gen1 Raptors. Being a 2011 Raptor owner, I always said I would drive this thing until the wheel fall off. 165k miles and still running strong! She has done all I have asked of her from off road to hauling an RV to hauling horses on a goose-neck I had installed. You can dress her up or take her to work. And being in her advanced years, she still turns heads. Love my Raptor and hope to get many more miles out of her!

Do you think the raptor could handle being a minor work truck with the lower payload? I would be switching from a 2015 with about 600 pounds of potential tools and I don't need to put much in the bed but may have more people in it than just me at times. The tools would be sitting in the rear rather than mostly the bed and I would be getting a four door 2013 with the reinforced frame

I just picked up a 2014 Crewcab with 60k miles and LOVE it...! In the 3 weeks I've had it, I upgraded the front rotors and pads with slotted discs, replaced the factory rear diff cover with one that has a drain plug and changed out the fuel pump fuse as a precaution- Apparently, Ford trucks of this era have a fuse problem that needs to be upgraded (easy fix). If I drive @ 70-75mph, I'm turning about 2000 rpm and getting 14.1 mpg on regular fuel... My Toyota 4x4 pickup only got 18 and couldn't tow like this 6.2... Drives like a Cadillac, really! You will PAY for a clean, low miles first gen, but way better than buying a run of the mill 4x4 for $60k+

What I love about the Ford Raptor and Ford Mustang is that they are so damn timeless. I would NEVER guess that truck is a 2012 because it looks so damn similar to the 2022 other than the crew cab. But I say all that to say, you can buy one and keep it forever and not feel the need to upgrade all the time for the "newer look"

Hard to find used, but got mine for $36000, lucky me! Yeah, allot for a used truck, but just beat the used car market! Sure I could sell it for much more, but won't! Very happy with it! Dream truck! My 2014 SVT special edition has 117K with only a battery, rotors, shocks, tires replaced. This truck replaced my 2012 SVT and is the only time I have ever replaced a vehicle with same after owning over 50 cars in my 75 year of existance. I am one of the few that payed well under sticker! I still have the window sticker and this super cab with EVERY option was only around 55K! Anyway, my dealer says "never sell this truck". This will be my last vehicle I will likely own or drive at my age. PS I run regular gas so considering how many newer vehicle now require premium at 50 plus cents a gallon, well not too bad. Still have my 2012 SuperCrew Gen1. Last week was the build week start for my Gen 3 37. My truck has 190+k on it and it is the best truck I have ever had. Shocks have been rebuilt 3 times and it runs, sounds, and feels like it did the day I picked it up. 2nd owner. Had 23k on it when I picked it up. Was originally planning to keep it till they and the Gen 3 announced the R. I am at the top of my dealerships' R allocation list. From a milage standpoint. I get 14.5 mixed city/hwy with regular gas and always have. I typically see 17ish on road trips but that can change if you are pushing higher speeds (up around 80) or pulling a trailer. Even with nearly 200k, it is going to be difficult for me to part with it when the new truck comes in.

Curious how many miles these motors are good for? I just looked at a 2013 with 231k miles on it. Great condition and appears to be well taken care of...but at over 200k in miles how much more life can the truck really have left in it before some major money has to be spent on it? Thanks in advance!

I would like a answer on this also but I think that most things on the truck like the shocks, the fluids bushings, and even certain parts of the engine will have to be thoroughly looked at numerous. Always remember that things don’t last forever.

I've got 225,000 miles . I do have a squealing noise . Replaced woth idle rollers, belt tensioner, alternator, still have squealing. Guess I need to take it to dealership . Maybe harmonic balancer, or internal timing chain tensioner.

Laughing a bit at how important "technology" is to some folks. Less the better over the long run. My main concerns are does it run well and reliably.

Depends on the year and cab. Rule of thumb is less than 90k miles = 33,000. Over 90k 29,000. With gas prices the way they are you will easily bargain to these prices. Stay away from 2010 and 2011. 12, 13, 14 supercrew best.

It really depends on the miles and mods. On the extreme high end I would say $55k would be the max for a low miles supercharged 2014 until you get into built prerunner territory.

Especially a super cab gen 1 with the 6.2. That is the best one imo. It starts out with less peak hp but the na v8 has snappier response and when I get one I wanna throw a 2.3 tvs on it. I'd like to throw a 2650 on it but I can't find where anyone has done it. I don't want a Whipple I am a tvs guy not bashing the Whipple I just like the tvs blowers and I think they fit the character of a truck well with their snappy response and torque and they can go much longer without needing a rebuild.

The first were $130k but sticker on these were like $43,000 in 2012. Even with inflation, current pricing is completely inflated and unnecessary. Gas mileage is CRITICAL to me (storm chasing = massive annual mileage and cost) Personally, I really wanted the 5.4L to have been offered longer. I don't need extreme fast performance and the slightly better mileage would have been waaaaay better for me. HOWEVER, the 2010 (only year of the 5.3L) was only offered as an extended cab. The full crew cab was added the second year (2011) but dropped the 5.3L. I really wish I could afford the Ecoboost although the longevity/reliability is questionable and always prefer V8s (same with 4runners/Sequoia debate. I don't know...maybe if I could get my YT monetized I could afford any of it.

Drinks in the rear Cupholders get hit with my elbow The raptor should have a open tailgate senser warning in the dash Lots of things to be impressed about but Man wheres the warning The weatherstripping below the back doors are completely missing by the factory leaving the cab open to snow and its rusting out the door sill Love the seats Backup camera is in the tailgate Useless when its off or down The white backup lts arent even bright enough for the camera to be used for backing up at nite Took it to a ice covered mud bog The ice took out the left exhaust manifold Its get a whole lot of looks and im very happy to have one
