@@adamn7516 I'm not the person you responded to, but I'll give a couple of reasons, the light switch has to be switched on all the time, if someone accidentally turns off the switch, you won't notice until you check the camera app, another similar issue, if you have multiple light sockets connected to one light switch, the other light will always be on unless you unscrew it, another issue is that anyone can come up, quickly unscrew it, and take it, by the time the app notifies you of movement, it's gone, and finally, in some locations, it can stick out like a sore thumb,.

This is a great way to power security cameras, as there's no need to install, or wire cams to traditional electrical wiring. Cat6 ethernet cable will carry your audio/video, and power, all over one small wire, which is easier to install discreetly, and considerably less expensive than romex wire.

I stumbled upon a symenalec bulb camera a couple months ago that I scored for 8 dollars. Didn't expect it to perform that well to begin with, but damn, I was wrong. The app could be simplified somewhat, but nothing a human can't overcome. Once you master the app and it's functionality, you will be surprised at the video clarity, the human detection, the prompt notifications, easy playback of captured footage, super easy to download to your phone, HDR support, camera tracking of any movement, etc. etc... These bulb cameras are $30 brand new on Amazon, and I dare you to find a better solution at this price point. It's just must simpler to screw this into a bulb base, and be done with it. You also now have PTZ with a bright enough light that makes up for in functionality, than having a simple wyze cam located stationary above your porch light and exposed to the elements. I'm seriously impressed at what this company has built. I have since bought more for myself and to give to family members. I actually find mine at Amazon Return bins liquidation stores in my town.

I have a owned 3 lightbulb cameras with 355 degree motion and I love them. They really fill my needs. What's disappointing is that they are all basically the same and built in China. I would love one and would pay for one with better build quality, far better cameras (with sharp video that can zoom far like Cell Phones with good quality). It seems that these are getting quite popular and I'm hoping someone builds and sells these with far better technology and camera quality. The easy plug into a light bulb idea is brilliant, and the human recognizing sensor is wonderful. It's just that depending on which one you get, some can track a person really easily at a quick speed while other make super micro movements that make trying to track a joke. I feel like someone could make a lot of money by designing a well built high quality version of these light bulb security cameras.

There are many cameras in this class that I bought for about or under $20 that do far far far better than 100 plus cameras I have. The problem is you won't know which, but overall I would say if you have a negative attitude on these and a total No Policy on buying these, you're paying way high and doing a great disservice to yourself! Good review and appreciate the effort, but the lack of any examples of the pan/tilt capability is disappointing, especially since most had that ablity. How well does it track movement that goes past the POV which in all your examples is static? I don't expect it to follow a car driving by at 20 miles an hour, but I would have appreciated a view of how well it tracked from left to right instead of just walking out of frame. Appreciate the effort though.

Great stuff as usual! I was curious about that form factor for in front of my garage. But I don't like the idea of wifi or app based cameras. I want a totally private self-hosted solution and POE sounds more secure as nothing prevents a thief from unscrewing those camera and leaving with it..

VA, they just announced a policy that only theft over $1k in value would even be investigated, much less likely prosecuted. So the police are much less prompt to respond to a burglary in progress, even in urban suburbia of Washington, DC. Thus thieves boldly raid suburban porch deliveries of packages, driveway auto partial theft, and, yes, may leave with a free security light bulb camera, and will probably be long gone before the cops arrive. If you got the money and space, buy and train a military police dog! other than that, if you are elderly, or an empty nester, move into a 55+ gated guarded subdivision community. This video is proof that all these proliferations of security systems and companies like ADT, or DIY systems like reviewed here, only overload the police force, and the videos submitted to L.E. only overload the D.A.'s office reviewing mountains of criminal evidence that will be culled and sifted out before any criminal justice system will be employed to prosecute for a lucky few victims who will be treated to a lengthy backlogged court case, with the most likely sentence a lengthy deportation proceeding for the perp if found to be an illegal alien, or discovered a member of a criminal gang such as MS-13 (but now as of Jan 1, 2023, FCPD has shut down their anti-gang task force -- reason given? Anti-Police sentiment!! WTF).

Great video. I have a small suggestion on how to improve these tests. After you review the quality, do some 'durability' tests to mimic weather that could kill the camera or cause other issues. For example, use a hair dryer to simulate 100F weather, use your fridge and freezer to simulate cold weather, and use the steam from a boiling pot of water to simulate humidity and waterproofing.

if you are an electrician, you can wire the light bulb to ground, then a perp unscrewing the bulb will complete a short circuit running from the 120V A-C electric socket to ground, thru his body, thereby "shorting" the criminal circuit court system.

I put a splitter in an overhead socket in our carport & have a regular light bulb and the camera bulb. I have a mesh system so there is a satellite nearby. I'll give this a try & if any issues will put this at another location and buy one of the better ones you suggested. Fine job !!

The first thing you should do is purchase one of these cameras and test it under all type locations and conditions. I chose an LA View lightbulb-type security camera. At 49.00 dollars apiece, it will not kill your bank account. Plus, technology is progressing so quickly, you can buy another, better, cheaper one in a few months... I set mine up on a reading lamp stand in the living room, and am in-process of learning it capabilities. Very entertaining. Very good resolution. The only failing is light reflection off a glass surface, as night security viewing is attempted. Haven't figured out that one yet. Leaving the camera out in the elements would solve this problem, but I hate to put it outside.

Just ordered the WYZE Cam Pan V3, thought I was going to be slick and get the WYZE socket adapter but then found out it does not work with the Pan version. The one linked is too big for my light fixture so I am going to try the Biwols Lamp Socket Power Adapter and use a plastic socket protector and some silicone sealant to hopefully make it somewhat weather resistant.

One of my concerns is the security implications of these cameras - I have no reason to believe the manufacturer will care much about stream security and so someone can hack into the stream and watch my movements, perhaps even gain access to the home wifi network and watch or manipulate data on that too. I think a good question is since these are just screwed into your exterior light receptacles, what is there to prevent people from just unscrewing them and walking off with them? Do any of these have any type of security where you can block them from turning on/activating if they are stolen?

That's a pretty common question I see asked about battery powered cameras, doorbell cameras, etc. I think the instances of security camera theft are pretty low, but best practice is to install your cameras high enough that they can't be easily reached.

I think the time of stealing security cameras is way passed. That would happen when these cameras were new and probably worth hundreds if not thousands of dollars. Additionally, the one who breaks the law has a sort of idea as to what he may face if caught and well knows to come to your house, he/she has to pass a large number of houses in the neighborhood that do have and install various type of surveillance devices in unknown locations thus can not be traceless unless he is Santa! Stealing a camera that is worth $20 when new, is of no use to that person. Your better question could be: "Will all these types of cameras fit into all existing house light fixtures, as easily as they claim?" obviously the answer would be for more than 95 percent of situations, NO. Your current house light bulb fixture has covering glass to protect the bulb against the elements that blur the footage during the day to the extent of no recognition or totally destroys it by the IR/LED use for the night due to reflection. You need to either hack the fixture (Not most homeowners are even able to do that) or get an "Extender" for the sucket to let the eye of the camera seat well below the coverage limit if there is no complete blockage there. That is hoping it is not too low so the lens can not be tilted upwards of the horizon level (As non of these cameras as so able) thus you do not cut off the heads of those who approach the area! I seriously don't see many homeowners risking their house to be lost in a fire, just because they wanted to run a non-professional/non-code compliance line to place a cheap IP camera somewhere on the exterior wall and you know call a professional electrician to come and do the job for you is totally out of budget for a person who purchases a budget camera.

@@samsen3965 I disagree. Someone stole a $30 25' hose from my front yard, so it is extremely believable that someone would steal one of these. The thieves want fast, easy things to steal. Another time someone broke into a car to steal a $80 dash cam. This was in a busy parking lot at a park. Both of the above happened within the last year. They know they would only get a few bucks at a pawn shop for it, but that will pay for their next hit of Fentanyl all for something that takes less than a minute.

All I can say is if you have one such experience, you better know that you are in the wrong place. Get your business elsewhere. But in all seriousness, the reality is something else, and worst, the bad guys know it well. With all the cuts in budget and more noticeably the bad name Police Department has earned in recent years due to a few black sheep among them, the bad guy knows it well "No one Cares". A friend of mine has a Honda Element and I don't know if you're aware or not, but this car is one of the topped desired ones for stealing catalytic converter, had to pay 4 times so far to replace the stolen one or reinstall it! On one occasion when his wife noted the ongoing event and called the police in time, the burgers were caught a few miles away from the place, with that and a few other Cat Converters in the car. Guess what happened? They stayed a few days and nights at downtown before getting released to go back to their unfinished job! This is the problem. Sadly and Bigly.

The best counter move is to use cloud storage. Short of that, multiple cameras are a better deterrent, as well as cameras that are mounted INSIDE the window looking outwards. I don't hide the cameras - more so that I make it obvious that there's more than one, and that by itself has deterred some that used to wander around checking things out . The front area alone has a PTZ that is just out of reach; a doorbell camera, a camera peeking thru a window, plus another one that is from a different vantage point. Getting past one camera is easy, but when it's blatantly obvious that there's at least 3, well,... Oh, and there's a sign on the door that says "Smile, you're on video.. " It's impossible to walk to one of the outside cameras without walking past the view of one of the inside cameras. Truthfully, I've been eyeing one of those multi-camera setups that have an internal base station. Those would be fantastic as the base station is where the recordings are kept. I doubt that I'd place a camera low enough outside that someone could chop the wires and take it, or unscrew it and walk away.

@@prakrutishah5034 I have “Ease life” bulb camera - these are both indoor only & outdoor/indoor, very easy to set up either to WiFi or hot spot, working pretty good, 360 rotation, can be installed up or down since has rotation future for this in set up program, has night vision, color & black & white, alarm system (siren) for intruders & some other things, you can use either for free view with the app (download) or subscribe & save videos to cloud, you can add up to 14 bulbs cameras into the same app & view from anywhere. It’s definitely worth $15 each. There are many different types, apps & prices. When you buy multiple you have to make sure to buy ones operated by the same app or you will have multiple different apps. This one has excellent price & is working super good. Also has light like flash light very strong, the room & 1/2 the house is bright light during night time when these lights come on. Indoor only is less $ & outdoor is few $ more. It has more than doorbell cameras have for just $15.00. It’s HD. Recommended.

I got the EyeToo or a white label equivalent for $15. I know it's the same because it uses the IPC360 app & has dual camera. It's fantastic! I stuck the EyeToo in a lamp and use it to watch my porch. I record 24/7 on a 128gb sd card. Houses in the US almost always have porch lights. Light Bulb💡 cameras are an easy way 24/7 recording without wiring anything. I can access the app anywhere even at work. Plus I don't have to pay for a subscription for playback like ring or wise. I'm biased because I payed $15 and got the 24/7 recording I wanted. To say light bulb cameras don't have uses is wrong.

I can look back about 4 days before with a 128gb sd card. The camera will adjust its time to whatever phone logs into the app. So if you travel to a new time zone be aware. This was a good thing for daylight savings time.

Great review. I’m currently testing the Laview. Was easy to set up with good connectivity to the router on the other side of my brick house. I have been getting notifications, though they are spotty, with some false alarms and some missed. Image quality is great. Has pretty much all the features you could want: pan, motion tracking, scheduling, zone filters, color night vision. App works fine; way faster than my Ring camera.

Great review ! you dont waste my time with frivolous babble, just the facts ! I tested 2 cameras similar to the eversecu, rotate/tilt camera quality were good. The camera's picked up motion and tracked the object, but failed miserably with wifi connectivity, even when bring the wifi source to within 15 feet the cameras were OFF more than on. WHereas the 2 cameras I were looking to replace, in the same spots outside, 100% connectivity, they just had limited field of view.

I just bought a Sehmua and it's pretty good so far. Mine's in fixture that was a two bulb motion detector so I have a small watt bulb in one socket & the camera in the other on my back porch. It detects everything even on medium sensitivity so I set it to low & it can still alert a vine leaf shaking 20 ft away. I use a 125 SD card and have it record only during events. It only runs on 2.4ghz

I appreciate your work making this video. I do these tests when I first buy a camera and set it up, bc rarely, well I have yet to find detailed info like this while I'm researching my best buy! It sucks! And it takes A LOT OF TIME! Your right, I do ignore my notifications alot, going crazy with alerts when not needed and when I know their should be a recording, there is not one! Settings adjusted to fit the situation of course. And also, the app that you have to use, when researching a camera I like to know what the app offers before I buy, I have spent days researching that a time or two! My recents are the Wyze 2, and Wyze 3 camera. The app offers so many settings that I mostly understand. But, I'm learning that they may be in the same app, but the settings are not the same when I review each camera. Reflecting on my statements and subscriptions, I'm wondering if each camera has different subscriptions.... 2 cameras are covered under one of the Wyze subscription and the other sub shows only one camera. It's so frustrating! I have had the ZMODO for 3 years now. Does not notify me what so ever when people walk buy ect. Only when it wants to. And when you reset your homes internet provider/password in any way that it disconnects the ZMODO, just put it away for a while bc getting it reconnected to your network is impossible. I have put that camera in a drawer for 6 months and thought I would try it out again, and wow, connected just like nothing ever happened. Customer service numbers are important. But I would like to know more about these socket bulbs as I have been waiting to see Another one, or a video like this. Tho as technology progresses quicker than weeds grow, there's probably a bundle of these very useful lightbulb socket cams! Thanks again!
