Highly recommend my 2007 4.8 litre Turbo, now with 140.000 kms, living in Switzerland and France. Has made selling the E~type and XJS bearable. No maintenance issues at all. It was the only car with a tall enough back to fit our two Borzoi dogs standing up. All the later SUV models, range rovers, etc, had this slope at the back. If anyone is driving down the Atlantic Coast and needs an experienced Porsche mechanic, I can recommend my local indy garage near the Bay of Arcachon.

I have always liked that generation Cayenne (unlike the two that followed). Great review, great cars! I've had my 2005 V6 model for 4 and a half years. Its done 150k miles now and is worth about three grand! I'm itching to change cars as I've had it so long, but I cannot find anything that I'd rather have in its place. Your comment on the seats is so accurate, I find them incredibally comfortable. The newer Cayenne (2010+) looks nicer and has a nicer interior, but the seats aren't as nice and lumbar support is optional on the later models too. I think I'll probably keep it until it dies, although my specialist has said that the V6 are so reliable if well maintained that probably never will! :)

Had a used 62 plate diesel car which had a high specification with full Porsche service history. Good fuel economy for a big 4x4 and it was good fun to drive, very comfortable too. At 42K miles the gasket between engine and gearbox failed and it was going to be around £2K for the repair at a specialist assuming they didn’t find anything else. The technician told me it was a reasonably common fault so worth checking if you are thinking about buying one.

Great video as always Matt 👍🏼 while you are correct about the bore score / worn piston rings issues of the MK1 Cayenne 4.5 V8s it’s mainly the 2003 & 2004 cars that suffer the most. Porsche quietly addressed the issue for the 2005 & 2006 model year cars before face lifting the whole Cayenne range in 2007 and going with the new line up of engines 👍🏼 My 2006 M.Y. Cayenne S 4.5 V8 that I’ve owned for the past 4 years is now on 140k genuine miles (still running on the original engine) without any issues at all.👍🏼

I was totally aware of this problem and spent a lot of time researching this issue before buying my one. I obviously wanted the Turbo model but couldn’t stomach average of 15 MPG or lower the way I drive 🙈🤣 18-22 MPG isn’t great but a lot more palatable 😬 The VW derived 250 bhp 3.2 V6 is just plain gutless in the 2.25 tone Cayenne and only just about OK in the MK5 Golf R32 that it ended up in.

@ 6lr6ak6 ... the 2.0T VAG engines are a lot more flexible and respond well to mapping & modding but IMHO have less character than the V6 which sounds superb in the MK5 Golf R32 despite being stuck @ 250 BHP. The trouble with Top Gear and The Grand Tour (erm....formerly Top Gear but now on Amazon) is that they've become totally different to what the original format was, and that was to show us the new cars, second hand ones, and road test them and gives us the heads up of what they're like, and for us to dream on with the more expensive stuff. Of course, it hasn't got to be all too serious, and a few laughs keeps us all entertained (like Matt does btw) but most of it has become like a gloriously over the top 'It's a Knockout Top Gear' with OTT tests of each other and daring do's, and well, I don't know! It is funny in parts don't get me wrong, but we're all petrol heads here wanting to know what cars are like not to watch The Three Stooges Go To Bangkok, it's old hat now.

I have a 2006 3.6 facelift in Spain...driven regularly at a brisk pace with the Porsche club I trust it to do exactly what its told to do...just like a younger brother. On narrow mountain roads it leads the pack as its four on the floor..well ahead of more accomplished drivers in their 911. An absolutely fabulous vehicle that costs circa €1000 a year to run. The door controls are weak and do creak and break occasionally...the tiptronic buttons on the steering wheel can snooze a little...go manual on the stick and its fantastic in all weathers...my favourite friend feels very safe in the passenger seat at any pace...this is a good thing as I've promised never ever to send flowers to her parents with a deeply apologetic note. A truly wonderful vehicle 🤗 As with all vehicles designed to be LHD...go with LHD....RHD is much less direct and the pedals are in the wrong place...just sayin'..also a pinking noise on the engine at height above sea level don't worry...it could be bore wear but drop some V Power in and it should go away. Porsche design their engines for sea level...if not then maybe I hope you have a big wallet...🙃

Great vid, was thinking about one of these trading in my old ML. Was wary about costs of repairs that's all.

Thanks. From my experience, these are no more costly to maintain than an old ML

This Cayenne looks really good for something that came out in 2007. It's still pretty even though it's 15 years old now

Hi Matt I had a 2006 RR Sport diesel withb120k miles, which I wrote off last week. It was a single car accident, whilst my car hit a stone post it turned on its side and I managed to climb out the passenger window aided by emergency services. I need to replace my car ASAP, the Porsche ceyenne has come on my radar along with a RR Vogue I am a bit of a traditionalist having 2 Jags as well. I am on hols in Spain atm, and today I parked near an '06 Porsche Cayemne I must say I was really impressed. My heart says Porsche and my head RR. This may be my only chance to own a Porsche.....so I am now confused Advice please Matt

Great review with good tech knowledge. Good buy if you do low miles. Just a shame part prices if main dealer only are mega expensive. You know your Porsche's Matt.

What a beast, still looks cool. Renault don't make keys that look like their cars - if they did they'd have to make one with a lift-up bonnet. ;-)

5:57 *The Point is that when introduced Diesel was considerable less in Europe than Petrol, however times have changed and it now costs more in the UK - Still (2020) quite a bit less in some EU Countries.*

It's negligible. You're talking 3 quid more per tank on my diesel compared to a petrol version, and that 3 quid is easily negated with economy.

Loved this vid! It helped me to pull the trigger... I just bought a 2010 Cayenne S V8/4.8L fully asperated with ~70k miles and brand new brakes. The previous owner mod'd the exhaust (eek) so it has straight back cats. I'm trying to decide if I should leave it roaring or take her down to a purr by adding back the full cat-back or a rear exhaust system. We'll see how well I can tolerate the extra vroom. I'm used to my kompressor (yup, an OG kompressor) and she's like me, she doesn't roar unless necessary :)

Congrats! I love the Cayenne and the 4.8 V8 is a good choice. Enjoy it :)

nice review mate , i keep considering one of these , but unsure on taking the chance on buying one ,I hear scares of replace gearbox prices , new clutches, scared of the headache when they go wrong , I know they look great and that are reliable. Should i chance it ?

I bought A£3000 cayanne . Had no issues as yet. Been up and down to England from fife . Fuel was kinda heavy 3.2 model but drives like new

Actually in Wales in caernarfon with it heading down to Porthmadog today for day out. It hasn't missed a beat. Fantastic motor. And fuel hasn't been to bad £+200 for about 500miles

I thought they were ugly when they first came out, but now I think they look great and aged very well, even if they are only a Volkswagen tourag in a fancy dress. Great video again funny man,

Prefer the first-generation Touareg, timeless design I think and a super cool V10 diesel!
@Wojciech9404 жыл бұрын
I'm also a fan of the selfies, but heard the V10's and V12 lack of the refinement and after all you're better off tuning the V8 for the same figures (the gearbox is going to limit you either way pretty early on the run lmao)
@VolvoXC90TV4 жыл бұрын
Monkey The V10 is very refined and the Touareg was never available with a V12, just a W12 in LHD markets I believe. Regardless, in the UK most Touaregs sold were with a diesel, a 5-cylinder 2.5 or a V6 3.0.
