From unboxing the 8 nuts and bolts(tools included)to assembling and walking to the site…then making 5 holes for 4 fruit trees(changed my mind about 1 spot)…planted the trees and began re-charging the battery all within 1 hour. An evolution from the eternal post hole digger. Pure utility.

I wonder if the auger shaft Ryobi uses limits you to only Ryobi auger bits. You can get extensions, pilot bits, and different sizes diameters or ice diggers for gas auger heads. Gas augers have no reverse which really can be troublesome, and dangerous.
@DIYwithCam2 жыл бұрын
You can get an extension kit on Amazon that fits the 40v auger. Not from Ryobi and I haven't tried it. The reverse featur definitely helped out when the auger was stuck.

Thanks for the review, did the auger bit get chewed up or bent by the rocks that it hit?
@DIYwithCam3 жыл бұрын
No, it didn't. The anti kick back is appearing to do its job and cuts the power fairly fast. The bit does look out of balance, but it came like that and it doesn't appear to cause any issues with the hole. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thank you for the review. Is your auger noisy from the gear box? I just got one and I tested it without the auger bit and it's rather noisy from the gear box

@DIYwithCam16 күн бұрын
Send Ryobi an email. That's what I did to get the charger. The fast charger is so much better than the standard slow charger that they sell with the auger.

This just proves the manufacturers are out to steal your money. How often are you going to use an auger before the batteries are dead?
@DIYwithCam7 ай бұрын
Will depend for everyone, but I have installed 3 fences now, with the largest being 650lf, multiple holes for various posts in the garden. It has still worked out cheaper than renting one and is much easier to use than a gas model. The battery has lasted really well, I use it in my mower and weed eater and has great performance. Battery tools aren't for everyone, but the technology is improving greatly.

I need to plant 3' to 4' trees, am leaning towards the Makita, Middle TN (Waverly) orange clay soil. Anyone suggest Ryobi over and or Makita? Thank you, great video

Can't speak for the Makita, but the Ryobi is great. The makita looks to be considerably more expensive.

Anyone try it with a 12" auger but?
@DIYwithCam2 жыл бұрын
Ryobi only go up to 10" so you would need to go aftermarket. This may be too much for the auger to handle, but would be interested to hear if it works or not.
@jasonsmith51962 жыл бұрын
They make extensions at harbor freight that fit these and extend your digging depth another 24 inches, if you need it
@frankpratt5292 жыл бұрын
Come on, lets see that toy try to dig in some moderately difficult dirt. What he has there is basically potting soil with a few rocks tossed in. I've dug enough holes with hand held augers to know that the Ryobi would be going back to HD before the first hole was dug. Oh wait, it can't possibly finish any hole because it only goes 30" deep Ryobi does things very well in it's light duty, cheap. handy homeowner market niche. They need to learn to stick to what they do best.
@DIYwithCam2 жыл бұрын
Interesting comment. I would highly recommend that you try the tool out before being so negative. I agree that this is not as heavy duty as some, but i don't see a gas auger performing any better. Because it is designed for homeowners, and not professionals, it is more than adequate for anything any homeowner would need. I have drilled of 60 holes now and it has performed exceptionally well. You can look at the depth of hole as only being 30", but there is no issue in finishing the hole off by hand. The soil that I used this auger on was far from potting soil, in fact, there were remains of an old road, junk from the previous owners and pieces of black top in my way. Do you know how heavy black top is? Ryobi has it's place and people need to understand, that they make good products, clearly not up to your standards and unlimited budget, but for most homeowners on a tighter budget and taking on smaller, one time jobs, their products are great. Apart from the ryobi table saw, that thing sucks. Thank your input on the product, but the 40V line is really impressing me se far.
@frankpratt5292 жыл бұрын
@@DIYwithCam I haven't used that auger, but the fact that it has those small handles that are close to the center of rotation is proof enough that power is pretty limited. The 2 person X-handle augers I've used can spin 2 burly men around in a hurry, so the Ryobi is clearly not in the same league. Different needs for different people of course and it sure is working well for you. As one who has worked with heavy and light power tools in a mostly professional capacity for several decades, I do tend to lose sight of the intended market and use and make myself sound elitist. Thanks for calling me out on that. Ironic that their jobsite saw is so crappy now. They used to make a model (BT3000?) that got tons of love, even from pros.
@DIYwithCam2 жыл бұрын
It has an anti kickback prevention feature, so it will never throw you around too much. It's a pretty neat feature for a one person auger, no injuries to note and the didn't need a friend. Turns out, a lot of people don't like digging post holes 😒. The 2 speed settings are really useful, and the high speed setting does push you around a little. If I were doing this for a living , I would be straight to a Bob cat with an auger attachment. I have a video on the table saw, and regret buying it, but you have to go with a budget sometimes.
