A Toyota Master Diagnostic Technician answers an Important question. Should you buy a Toyota Hybrid or a Lexus Hybrid in 2022?
In this video we will revisit this subject from the past as I share with you updates on hybrids.
Find the Series on How Hybrids work here:
• How Toyota Hybrid Syst...
The most important thing in your decision to buy a hybrid Toyota or Lexus is to understand them and know if this is something that fits your lifestyle or needs or not.
I tried my best to cover all topics that I see my viewers regularly ask about on Toyota and Lexus Hybrids and answered them in this video.
Topics we'll cover in this video
1- Are Toyota and Lexus Hybrids as reliable as Non Hybrids? We'll cover the most important subject. The Hybrid batteries and how they are progressing these days.
2- How about Maintenance Costs? In this section I'll cover additional maintenance items that are added to Toyota and Lexus Hybrids
3-What about Gas mileage for Hybrids, accurate or not? In this section I'll share with you my personal experience on my own personal Toyota hybrid.
4- Reasons not to buy a Hybrid : This in my opinion is the most important section of this video. If you are considering one these are the situations where a Hybrid wouldn't make sense.
5- What about Plug in Hybrids? In This section I'll share with you a brief description of the differences between hybrids and plug in hybrids and when you should or should not consider one.
6- Forget about hybrids. Buy an electric car?? In this section I will share with you my personal opinion on electric cars and why the screams of the movement to ban the gasoline engine are not as simple as they seem.
7- How about other Hybrid offerings from other manufacturers? I'll share my opinion on this subject as well

I actually like the regenerative/electric motor whirring noise of the hybrid. It's just a pleasant white noise to me. I remember as a young boy in the 1970s helping my Grandpa at his service station he got first hand look at a 1969 Toyota Corona that came in for an oil change. Grandpa was a diehard "buy American" old guy. He gave the Corona a once over with his shop light and said to me "I hate to say it, but these (insert racist Japanese term here) really build some solid cars." "Toyota is going to be big, you watch." 50 years later, I guess he was right.

@@drunksquirrel2051 Same, my Grandpa fought in WW2 and absolutely hated Japanese people and anything associated with them. Having his service station in a small "patriotic" town, not many people owned Asian/European cars. He lost one of his fingers working on a Honda Accord. He wasn't aware of the electric cooling fan. He retired a couple years later because more and more people were bringing Hondas/Toyotas in and he couldn't keep up with the technology of those vehicles.

Thanks AMD, I bought the 2022 camry hybrid a few weeks ago and I never felt this confident buying a car. My family and extended family have a tradition where we trade in the car that's the oldest or with the most problems in our "fleet" and pass down the one we currently have so I never felt like a car was my baby until now. I never thought I'd get excited when the maintenance interval nears

I would bet that your story is fabricated or you don’t know how to check gas mileage with a pencil and paper at the pump. I think if you do a tried and true gas mileage calculation you will find that your RAV4 Hybrid is actually only getting between 28 and 30 miles per gallon with combined city and highway driving. What the cars tell you that you the mileage you are getting and what the mileage really is are two different things. People nowadays believe everything they are told. Sad the way people are nowadays.

Very true, but even if gas prices were as before I'd never consider buying a non-hybrid from Toyota or Lexus (excluding 4runner/landcruiser/GX/LX of course). If Toyota offers a hybrid, that's what you should buy- I think they're the best in the business when it comes to that (even though they're still using heavy and outdated nickel metal hydride, which is cheap but much less efficient, heavy and doesn't wear as well as lithium ion).

Great, informative video on auto hybrids with excellent advice! Yes, hybrids are not for everyone, but for some people (environmentally and/or economically conscious), they are awesome autos. I just purchased my 2nd Prius hybrid, the Prius Prime plugin. It's better than I expected, much quieter and refined than my 2012 Prius. For me, it's a perfect car for Honolulu, which has a lot of stop-and-go traffic, so having a fast, powerful car is often useless in our driving environment. My plugin mileage is just enough to cover my commute of 32 miles round trip (which is better than the advertised 26 miles). Fortunately, I have a home where I can charge it daily. The only reason I drive on gas occasionally is to prevent my gas from going stale (which I was told to not exceed 6 months on non-ethanol gas, much less if using ethanol). When I do drive on gas, I get an incredible 62+ mpg, better than the advertised 54 mpg. I'm very impressed at how refined Toyota's hybrid technology has become. I also heard that Toyota is producing a solid-state lithium battery for use in electric vehicles and that they will pilot these batteries soon, beginning with their plugin hybrids. Mahalo (TY) for you video!

Your series have educated me on the specifics of Toyota hybrids even though I have been familiar with how hybrids work for years. Your series on hybrids with your motto “Simple though Complicated” made me curious of the specifics of the MG1 and MG2 so much so that I looked and found the WeberAuto channel that actually demonstrates how the Toyota MG1 and MG2 assemblies function via a reassembly of the modules. Wow, excellent presentation. After having 6-cylinder Toyota Siennas, every 3 years (leased) for many years, I had to try a Toyota Sienna Hybrid, since Toyota discontinued the 6-cylinder engine version. I must say, that I was pleasantly surprised with the performance of the Sienna. I expected low acceleration with only a 4 cylinder (hybrid) engine, but it actually had better acceleration than my old 6 cylinder version. And now, after having it for 6 months, I am more pleased with this hybrid than I have ever been with any other 6 cylinder Sienna. I frequently get more than 40 mi/gal with my short drives to the mall and back. I am over 70 years old, and I am in no hurry to get from point A to point B, but I certainly don't have to fill the gas tank very often with this vehicle. Thanks for confirming my driving thoughts with this video.

Good info! We just purchased a Lexus RX-450h a few months ago. Still getting used to it but overall we are very happy with it. Not quite as sporty as I would like but the wife loves it. The F-Sport package makes it look and drive a little better though. Personally I like the alien noises. LOL Thanks again!

🤓So many misconceptions about hybrids out there, so thanks for making this video! I’ve had my 2021 Sienna Limited AWD hybrid for almost a year. It has truly passed all my expectations I had. I frickin’ L O V E this thing!! I don’t find it slow. I switch to Sport (power) mode to merge onto freeways, pass cars, climb steep hills…no problem. Eco mode in town. Last summer, I averaged over 40 MPGs per tank!! In colder months, 35 MPGs. I drive in town 90% of the time, highway 10%. Unbelievable. ❤️‍🔥 Before the Sienna, I drove 3 different Acura cars for 25 years. I have a lead foot and was afraid I’d be somebody that wouldn’t get good mileage from a hybrid, but I had fun with that first tank of gas…learning how to use the hybrid efficiently was easy. Mostly, don’t take off from a stop like you’re racing, and take your foot off the gas earlier when you see a red light ahead. That first tank went 621 miles and averaged 41 MPGs, and still had two gallons left! You’re right…probably not the car for everyone, but anyone can learn a couple simple ways to maximize mileage. 👍change oil every 5K, maintain tire pressure, and check those battery fan filters every few months.

got my 2022 AWD. That rear motor really helps to boost the MPG. It helps charge up the battery quickly. I owned a 2010 Prius C and it takes longer to charge up the battery because that is only FWD. Tesla should be worried when Toyota really focuses on making plug in or EV. The quality, fit and finish, reliability are far better than Tesla. can't way for Toyota to push plug in on every hybrid model, that will be a game changer. 50 mile EV range and 600 miles plugs for a full tank of gas in hybrid mode. you get the best for both worlds.

I've considered getting the Sienna as a replacement for my 2006 HH because it has more interior space. Or, it seems that way to me. 40 MPG? That would seal the deal....well, if I could get one with the current auto availability situation.

@@tharais try to shop around and wait for a good deal. don't overpay like I did because I need a van for the family to travel regularly each two weeks. highway is around 32mpg to 35mpg with AC on (80 miles/h) , depending on how fast you are driving. will get better MPG in around 65 or 70 miles/hlocal is around 35 to 45mpg, depending on the traffic. try to get the AWD version, it actually boosts the MPG for local driving because it helps to stop the vehicle and charge the battery.

@waltercruz-escobar8017
@waltercruz-escobar8017 2 жыл бұрын
@@robbarber7253 the part that you're looking for that's absorbing the energy of your vehicle stopping would be the electric motor generators in the transmission, which then use that absorbtion of energy to charge the hybrid battery alongside slowing your vehicle down. The actual brake pads really only come into use during harder braking, where the extra force is necessary, but nothing is getting worn out. Ive been a Toyota tech for a few years and have literally never seen a hybrid vehicle need a transmission replaced yet.

@goodluckulasi4993
@goodluckulasi4993 2 жыл бұрын
@@robbarber7253 regenerative braking is also part of physics. Energy your hydraulic brakes would have transformed to heated (wasted) is transformed is now channelled to rotate your motor which then charges the hybrid battery. If you are familiar with electric motor you will know that when u rotate it, it turns to become a generator. That's what helps with the braking and heavy braking is done by hydraulic brakes. One thing you should also know with hybrids is unlike ICE cars, your brake pedals are not directly connected to the brake but controlled by some kinds of sensors that determines what kind of braking is needed when necessary. I believe this will clear your doubt.

I've saved $8,000 in gasoline alone in the past 3 years in my hybrid, compared to my previous non-hybrid car that I had before. Which was also the same sized vehicle with same driving conditions. Thanks for this video, a great explanation of the details. I have a 2012 Prius Plug-in and we use that in the low mileage vehicle category. A lot of places we go are well within the 13 mile EV range. Our second car is a Kia Sorento Hybrid. I hear you, that Toyota hybrids are the originals, but I am hoping Kia has done it’s homework and our Sorento proves to be reliable. I just couldn’t go the EV route yet, even with the current price of gas. Too much range anxiety for me or my family at this point.

I absolutely agree with everything. Being a user of a Prius 2010 up until last year I had all kinds of problems with that car, including a battery swap not covered by the warranty after about 8 years ( I bought it used the year before it failed btw 💀 🔫). I learned the hard way a lot of stuff on hybrids during that period (including I bought the very worst year model) but I still enjoyed that car very much and I’d buy another hybrid anyway, if the wallet allows. Having moved back to my home country in Italy after 17 years in North America, I found Renault makes here very affordable and excellent hybrids, plug-ins and EVs too. I will considerate both Toyota and Renault for a future car.

CCN, this is a terrific video, explaining the mystery of Hybrids. And the very easy, simple things DIYers can do. I'm 70 YO, and without getting into the debate of Hybrids over PIEVs, I personally think Hybrids are the way to go for Now. More HP, More Torque, Better MPGs for the same non Hybrid vehicle (Toyotas, Hondas, Hyundais, etc.) for a small increment in the price ($1500-1800), is an Absolute No Brainer to me. There is way too Much of a RUSH to EVs. Notwithstanding the Climate Craziness, EVs, serve no purpose to Aparment dwellers (NYC Chicago, etc.), unless youi like to wait at Power stations. And go back to the Horror story of the late Fall surprise winter snow/ice stiorm in Virginia. Thosuands stranded on I-95 for over 24 hours in Freezing Temps. In an EV, you would be Sitting on that electro-magnetic emitting Battery for 24 hours and watching the battery drain as you sit there turning the heater on and off. yes, If you had little gas in the tank of your Hybris or gasoline powered car, the same anxiety would be experienced. But I would not "Fry" under the Lithium full car length battery. Changes form Fossil Fuels is a necessasy, no arguments there, but we should be taking Baby Steps until all aspects are investigated. CNN makes a late comment about the electrical power Grid... look at Texas with failed / Frozen Windmills .....Windmills in an Oil Town. Total power outage wreaks EV Anxiety.
