Been using Aqara for 2 years here in Texas. Can say their door and window sensors are great. I have them set in 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a closet. The curtain motors are pretty good. The motion sensor P1 is on par IMO with the Phillips hue motion sensor.

Yup not found a bad Aqara product yet. I especially like the blind motors. The motion sensors are certainly nothing special, and I was slightly annoyed that the latest P1 lacks the temp sensor of the earlier model, but they are still decent.

I have decide to jump on the Aqara bandwagon once the M3 Hub is released and I have pick up several of the water leak sensor and 3 of the FP2 presence sensor. When it comes to budget the Aqara line is hard to beat, I have been recommending Aqara for those on a tight budget and need reliability. Great video and info!

Thanks, the M3 hub does look like a good upgrade, hope you enjoy. I definitely want to pick up one of the FP2 presence sensors soon.

I have quite a lot of Aqara stuff it has one major weakness in the UK... No smart plugs or wall sockets! It ends up with you having to make complicated bridges with your smart home assistant.

So far I have managed to get around this by pairing it with Alexa and using IFTTT, the downfall to this over home assistant is that if my internet goes down then so does my automations, but on the plus side it’s fairly simple to set up. I agree though it’s definitely something they could add to their range.

@@RicksTechReviews of course iftt is an additional cost. But the real issue is if say you want to use the light and motion sensor to activate a lamp only when light levels are low...Alexa can't see the light levels from the sensor so it can't bridge it. You can put a relay behind a socket to make it smart but the aqara ones are only rated to 10a UK requires 13a

I have been using the aqara and xiaomi mi smarthome devices since 2018 with their apps and with home assistant, I mean a lot of these devices and sensors and cameras and lights. Great value for a quite low value and working really well. The coin battery based devices usually run rather 2+ years for example the motion sensors. Back then the sensors were a lot cheaper, half of what they are now, especially back then on sales and in bulk order of 4 or so. We have 60 products - up to e-ink temp sensors and humidity sensors, switches, motion sensors, bt switches, air fryer, and lot more. 95% are really great, the only one disappoint was a smart home light advertised as smart but was a stupid one with integrated motion sensor of just 3 m range at the end which is far less than usual, but that was cheap one for about 10€ or 11$ back then. We have 4 or 5 of these.

@typxxilps That’s great. Good to hear the the battery’s do last and that the devices have longevity. It’s cool that you managed to pick them up cheap. Thanks for commenting 👍

“So to use Aqara devices you are going to need an Aqara hub.” Eh? Obviously I’m not your target audience but to state basic things which aren’t facts is just confusing to everyone.

Your statement is confusing me. Are you trying to say that it's not a fact because you don't need a specific aqara hub and can use alternative hubs? Either way, in order to use Aqara zigbee products, you will need some sort of hub. From my experience, Aqara products work better when paired with their own hub. I would recommend any first-time buyers to buy the Aqara hub. You can later pair it with more advanced systems like Home Assistant.

Hi, I’m just trying to help most people who have a general interest in smart homes. While there may be other ways around using Aqaras devices, most people will use an Aqara hub, especially when starting out. But obviously if you want to do this another way you could.

@@FritzHTS you need some kind of Zigbee coordinator, which could be Aqara’s hub or a multitude of others, including a USB device plugged into something running Home Assistant. It’s the stating of grey things as black and white truths which I find unhelpful, to the newbie and people more experienced. All it needs was something like “So to use Aqara devices you are going to need some kind of Zigbee hub or coordinator. I’d suggest you start with Aqara’s own hub…”. It’s a matter of precision.

@FritzHTS Thanks, this was my logic also

@lawrencemanning Correct, but people that don't have our tech knowledge, especially someone of your caliber, may get overwhelmed and then get turned off to the idea of a smart home.
