See my comment. If you look after them and maintain them there isn't a problem. The problem is people buy them second hand and cheap out on the maintenance and care and then expect them to be trouble-free. They are like the my third wife - great to look at; go like they are in the 3.15 at Chepstow; great ride - but need washed once a week, lots of care, attention, love and a bit of money spent now and again to keep them happy and content.

This era of Land Rover still look great today. They've aged well because of their box dimensions, it's a timeless design for a 4x4. I definitely prefer this squared off look. Actually it turned out range rovers aren't as unreliable as people say. It's an urban myth in a way. Given you don't service it at LR dealership. There is a lot of aftermarket parts that are really not expensive. Also at this point you don't have to replace every faulty sensor and stuff like that. I'm in the market for a proper 4x4 vehicle that I'll convert to an Overland vehicle. Range rover is second on my list. After VW Touareg
@Alexander_l3224 жыл бұрын
@@SkywalkerPaul you should replace whatever goes wrong when you can as it always makes more sense then leaving it to the point where things mount up and make it half what a Range Rover should be and leaving you with a much bigger bill when you do get it all sorted. Cheaping out on maintenance is not right on something like a Range Rover.

Here in Australia there's quite a few with the 2.7TDV6 with well over 400,000km. My 08 is at 330k and I haven't had many issues with it. I've had it for 8 years and put 200,000 of those km on it, but it still does feel like an event every time I drive it, and it still feels like a premium car. I still think it looks great for its age - the shape is timeless, whereas I feel the German SUVs of the same vintage haven't aged as well. It also really is fantastic off road, and as an all round on and off road tourer I can't think of anything better.

Your review was spot-on. I'm a big fan of this era and those 4.2 and 4.4 Jag engines. They are bulletproof if you keep up on the maintenance. In addition to your list of must-do items (trans, diff, etc.) I'd include replacing the grommets that take the water from the sunroof drain tubes out the front quarter panels. I've had these fail on three of my Rovers causing electrical damage when water accumulates in the rocker panels. Currently have a 2006 RR Sport, 2006 LR3, and 2006 L322 all with over 200K miles and they run great! Added bonus - the aluminum body panels still show no signs of rust! I'm nervous to step up to the 5L with the timing chain issues, but know that I'll likely go there someday... Thanks for the great review!

It is still a Range Rover! The shape might look a bit old but if you look at an X5 or ML or Cayenne of the same age they look even more dated! The Supercharged is the one to have, I had one and the look on peoples faces on the motorway when you indicate to change lanes and you plant your foot in the carpet and take off! No one expects such a big lump to get a move on! The only downside is your bank manager will call you and tell you to stop it or he will take your house!

Bought a 2007 4000 miles one owner, kept in a heated garage and rarely used, it's just 3.0 diesel but I had remapped, now gives me 12mpg more. The reason these engines come out of the factory detuned is that they are sold all over the world and their engines are expected to perform in places where fuel and oil could be significantly inferior, therefore it's deemed necessary not to extract every last bit of power out of it. Here in the UK these restrictions can safely be lifted.

The family had that car for 10 years and did nearly 250,000 klms in it and honestly it never missed a beat! yes we always had it maintained by LR and LR specialists. I loved this first gen RRS shape its similar in proportions to the Classic Rangie i.e. not as big as the L322. The first gen interiors and dash were always a 'bit cheap' Matt, I agree with you there, straight out of the Discovery's really. LR certainly improved them dramatically on the second gen RRS. In fact the interior on mine is bloody marvellous. Id agree wholeheartedly , keep them properly and regularly maintained by specialists that know them and they are very dependable. As a disco owner I always say to people owning a Landrover is a hobby. So long as you think of it like that, you’ll love them. There are so many other vehicles which are not only more reliable, but cheaper and simpler to fix

Has Jaguar ever produced an unreliable powerplant? Even the V12 is a dependable engine if it doesn't overheat. Jaguar V8 > BMW V8

1997-2000 Jaguar V8s weren't too clever - nikasil (or was it alusil?) coating in the cylinders and the notorious plastic timing chain guides.
@TheDavisDennisShow4 жыл бұрын
@@radiogorgie626 apart from a few preventable issues, they are actually extremely reliable. The nikasil linings were only an issue due to the high sulphur level in petrol at the time in the UK

I have a 2006 RRS with 200,000 kms on it. Apart from the small problems (mostly electrical) like headlight washer and windshield washers failing, I’ve had no major problems. Recently put on some steel rims and AT tires and it’s a beauty off-road. The reliability issue I feel only pops up when you don’t service the car when it has to be done. One reliable machine.

Excellent video as always matt. I love range rovers as well just something about them. Also I couldn't agree more maintenence and looking after them mechanically and servcing them regular will prevent future issues.

Always loves these. If I was a bit more well off I'd buy one in a heart beat. Just the repair stories I've heard puts me off. I had one once for a week V8 supercharged. Wow that V8 is addictive 😍 cost me a fortune in fuel but was worth every penny. Still look the part on road now.

If you hear a humming sound then it might be a bearing somewhere. I had a similar problem in my Disco...the humming had a tendency to get louder the faster I went. I took it to a mechanic to sort it out but he didn't think there was a problem...until I was driving along one day when it broke down. He eventually found that the bearings in the gearbox got mashed. Another possibility could be the wheel bearings. My Disco did about 60,000 miles at the time. Good luck...hope this helps.

I have a 61 plate HSE in Black with the 5.0 litre Supercharged V8 - 503hp/510ps. It feeds on Shell V-power and pulls like a train. Being a later model has much upgraded interior. Mine has now done 59k and always been very reliable, regularly serviced by JLR. The only issue has been a new suspension compressor a few months ago - no complaints for a 10year old car. Very comfortable, very practical and soothing to drive - a gem on long motorway journeys and as Mat suggests fuel consumption on such journeys a respectable mid-20s....and when you need to overtake....it absolutely flies with great V8 sound track and supercharger pulley whine....a little too addictive..😉 Highly recommended...
