A note to my Varlets! Let's turn this comment section into a source of even more reviews for curious players looking to get Darktide! Share your experiences and fun moments about what you loved from the game! Share some troubles you had trying to play the game and how you overcame it, be it a technical (hardware/software problem), or advice on how you got better at the game! It's alright if its positive or negative so long as its genuine! I want this video to help make decision making, so let's get to it!

the only issue ive been having with the game lately is some connection issues, usually verifying files on steam or just a quick restart helps gameplay is addicting, build crafting is super fun, the voice acting is funny and just super top notch, and visually the games stunning the soundtrack is probably one of the best ive ever heard in any game, its up there with Bungie Halo for me and Jesper Kyd just never seems to miss with any game he works on (seriously, Skaven theme in Vermintide 2 is peak)

Same here with the connection issues... Though I really think my ISP is to blame (somehow) since it happens at more or less at the same times.. Jasper Kyd is brilliant... I watched that video of an interview of him and how he came about making the music for Darktide and it was just amazing how he pieced things together to arrive at the "feel" of the 40k setting. I can't imagine anything else outside of his work at this point!

Ever since the 2023 talent tree update I've been having fun trying out interesting builds. I thought I was playing the game casually a few missions at a time, and then out of nowhere I check my playtime and I'm at 800 hours. Melee combat is great, I especially enjoy having movesets with combo variations, the dodges, a stamina bar, and blocking/parrying/dodging. But I feel like darktide in particular does this bunch of systems really well. Sound design is really important too with all these features and it has really good, distinct audio cues to go along with everything.

Playing as an Ogryn is one of my favorite experiences in a FPS style game. There are some cons but the experience just feels very unique going past just being the "big man". Once I got my head wrapped around the core gameplay a lot more, I would notice my human allies struggle with certain things that come naturally for Ogryns, or are otherwise just kitted out better than humans for dealing with. A simple but good example is your size if you are playing a ranged build. Despite how some people complain about Ogryn's size, you have a great natural vantage point for picking out specific enemies from the group. You can also stand up behind barriers and stacks of crates and use them as a way to pick off ranged enemies while still providing cover if you crouch or select the correct height when you make an Ogryn. Due to their size Ogryns have a higher shot angle than their human allies, making it easier to pick off elites and specials in a tense situation or in certain areas with tricky level geometry. It takes some time to experiment and really feel what each class has to offer in terms of synergy and little micro advantages (and disadvantages) like that. But any class can be really good if you have good fundamentals and you understand things like game, weapon, class, stats, etc. modifiers.

Darktide is an ABSOLUTE BLAST. The 'Tide series (Vermintide II + Darktide) are the best Horde-Slashers/Shooters on the market. The intensity, the adrenaline, the crazy plays, the laughs, the clutch saves from almost certain death. Superb controls. Very fun gameplay and satisfying combat mechanics. High skill ceiling. The more you play, the better you get, for a looooooong time. Teamwork is at the very core of the game. The lone wolf dies, the pack survives. The visuals are awesome: the characters, the monsters, the ship, the maps, the fine details, the gore, everything. The sound cues are excellent and give you valuable information if you pay attention. The soundtrack is epic and inspiring. They really nailed the Warhammer 40k atmosphere for the Hive City. Life sure feels pretty hard in the 41st millennium. Ton of equipment to try (Melee Weapons/Guns/Psyker Staves/Curios) opening up many different playstyles. The classes talent trees have meaningful options, changing core abilities that completely change the gameplay. Between the crafting of your Weapons (Perks and Blessings), the weapon marks with different base properties and move-sets, and the many different paths you can try in the talent-trees, ... there are a LOT of builds to try in this game, and it's fun to test out new combinations and ideas. High replayability, not only because of the many combinations, but because every game is different. You never know what madness awaits you next. The most fun is at the higher difficulties (Auric missions) with a lot of added modifiers on the maps, with the crazy amount of enemies charging at you hard from every angle. Darktide is a great time with friends on voice-chat, but the public games are also quite enjoyable. There are a bunch of cosmetics to unlock just with completing objectives and progression on your account. You can buy cosmetics too, but I never did. The ones you unlock are plenty, look badass and tell other players your achievements. I'm closing in on 600 hours, and expect to play a lot more. 10/10

The thing that I really like about this game is that it's easy to diagnose what went wrong during a mission, and how to fix it. Sometimes it's the other players, sure, but there's A LOT that a single player can do, if they know their shit. That is to say, death is usually a skill issue. Not to be an ass about it, but every normal enemy has a counter, and enemy groups are priorization puzzles. Once you got that down, you're more than halfway there. As someone who plays a fair bit of games, too often combat just feels too random or unpredictable, and so death feels arbitrary and unavoidable. Darktide communicates pretty much everything it's doing through audio cues, so once you learn how to detect those cues, you're never truly surprised by anything. But I also like the fact that most of your "progression" happens on a personal level; you just become better at the game. Gear isn't THAT important, and getting the things you want is easier than ever, so mission rewards are kind of irrelevant. And this is one of its greatest strengths, because when failure has no real cost, you're always just playing for fun. You don't really get angry, and so there's little to no toxicity in the game, especially in the higher difficulties. It's kind of weird to me to hear people complain about "reasons" to play, because to me, *playing* the game is the reason. The gameplay is just fun and, certain mission objectives exempted, it's never the same, even in the same map, because enemy positioning and AI director add a lot of randomness to it. It just gives me a rush like nothing else. Still, all the complaints in the video are valid. I'd especially like to say that in a game like this, it should be very important that you can flaunt your accomplishments with associated cosmetic gear. Completing Penances should award more and cooler stuff.

At this point the only reason not to buy it is to avoid giving Fatshark more money, and if you don't jive with the stylistics. Personally I'm not big on spending hours looking like a hobo (yet miraculously taking las and tox fire and surviving), so I wouldn't feel good recommending the game to a new player just off of DT's obsession with the hive city hobo-core aesthetic.

I wish Darktide launched like this instead of being patched two years later; however, I am very familiar with Fatshark's unfortunate "need" to release first and then fix it later having been a fan of Vermintide 1 and 2 since their respective launches and seen the ups and downs of the studio before. Darktide should have been like it is today at its launch. The biggest pain point for me is not being able to select the level that I want to play with the modifiers I want. Quickplay has a habit of dumping me into the same levels again and again and it can get very monotonous when you're defending Aegis Station for the fourth time in a row. Additionally the new train level is 1. not always available as a consequence of the way they roll out the stages and 2. takes only half to a third of the time of a normal mission. I think they need to rethink the way they are doing these levels. Shorter missions, currently only the train, need to be in another playlist or become a unique special operation. The "campaign" is pretty terrible overall. You can get to the level 30 final cutscene without even really understanding what the heck is going on. For a game that parades itself as having been written at least in part by Dan Abnett, one of the many celebrated authors of much of the 40K books, the campaign is definitely not at any levels of being good. You don't learn much doing the random missions and arguably because the missions selectable are random, the bits of information you do pick up about the setting are effectively window dressing and do nothing to advance player knowledge about what is going on in the world around them, much less the miniscule bits of plot on the Morningstar. IMO, Mr. Abnett probably only had a hand in the ambient dialogue between the characters and fleshed out the world building of Tertium. There was a way they could have made our characters small and insignificant in the wider scheme of things but yet have our actions take a much larger role in the war against the forces of darkness on Tertium that they didn't take. Heck, Vermintide 2 was far better written in this regard compared to Darktide, but such is the issue when they wrote the characters as complete blank slates that had to be filled in with the character traits selected at character creation instead. I will say that the ambient dialogue is probably where the game is the strongest storywise, but at the same time reveals the weakness of the game by using it as a crutch to have it fill in space. Combat is definitely one of Darktide's strongest points and Fatshark revels in the fact that they are the masters at making melee combat feel extremely good. It has been their strength as a studio since Vermintide 1.

I have 350h into this game and there isnt a better horde coop game when your in game, with the grandaddy LFD2 the only real debate imo. The combat, music and setting being done so well makes it so mich fun and I love the map/modifier rotation it adds so much variety on even the same maps. The new update makes buildcraft alot more enjoyable and straightforward. There is 3 things i do find lacking that ill go over but the actual gameplay of the game is 10/10. 1) The cash shop, i get the darktide is a live service so additional income has to come from somewhere, but the fact that i can only think of 1 notable earnable cosmetic for each class is pretty bad. The shout chestplate for vet, the cape one for phyker, the candles chestplates for zelot, and the shirt with the little trophies for ogryn. I get that you have to incisive a purchase, but almost all of the flashier or funnier things is in the shop and its also not cheap. I think the current gas ww1 themed sets are like 30 bucks which is way to much. 2) the game dosnt tell you anywhere what most modifiers do, AND THERES AN INSPECT SCREEN! Whats the difference between rending and brittleness? Whats a specialist and whats an elite? The game wont tell you, which is such an easily solvable problem that idk why it hasnt been fixed. 3) The "story", it felt like a placeholder story since the start and it still feels that way. While all of the character interactions in missions are great, but there isnt a main connecting thoughline, yet. I suspect that maybe in the future we will have it but until then the character interactions in mission is pretty much all you gonna get for world building and an actual story. (i think vermintide 2 also had this problem but was fixed by the time i gave it a try) So yah in conclusion when you are in game going though the level, its one of if not the best coop horde shooter game on the market, however it is still held back by alot of the things when your on the mourning star. It has gotten better but we still aint there yet.

I think the best summary of it is "Finally, after almost 2 years, Darktide is out of early access". Yeah, it's a bit snarky, but damn if this most recent update didn't make that statement feel true. Between this, the recent update for Helldivers 2 and release of Space Marine 2, the co-op shooter itch is being very well taken care of nowadays. Here's hoping this update gets the sales numbers up to where it deserves at this point. Edit: Since other folks have mentioned their experience, I'm just shy of 600 hours. I really hope they improve their mod support. I have no issue (technically speaking) with manually installing and setting up mods, but it would make it so much easier if we could install mods directly through steam like in vermintide. Also they should give us a post game scoreboard, don't know why the game still doesnt have that lmao.
@leubzo1436

They intentionally didn't include a scoreboard because they noticed in vermintide it lead to some toxicity. As for mod support the flipside of having mods tied to the workshop is having the same situation as vermintide 2 workshop, where mods need dev approval before they can be used in official realm, and devs basically stopped approving new mods after a year and so you get a bunch of mods that you can't use because it prevents progression. I prefer the manual installation method, that way the devs leave it up to players whether they want scoreboard or true level... etc

It's also deep with tons of ways to customize your character etc. However, the game is poorly optimized, I have a ryzen 5600x and 6900xt, a pretty damn good system that typically doesn't struggle to play ANYTHING on highest settings, yet this game does, also experiencing some crashes not sure why.

I finally have Agreed like many that Darktide is finally in a good state with content and QoL stuff. My only really lasting complaint is a much needed Solo mode. When they finally add that I will sing their praises and give them a positive review.
@leubzo1436
@leubzo1436 10 күн бұрын
Solo mode is much trickier than people realize. It's not about the dev time it would take to make it, it's probably mostly made already. It probably comes from the fact that darktide uses dedicated servers for lobbies, instead of the peer-to-peer connections from vermintide. The upside is that connection quality is orders of magnitude better than p2p when playing, you don't have to rely on the host's internet speed. One of the downsides is that it's a lot more expensive to use, and so the less lobbies open at a time the better for their costs. If you could play solo, each solo player would be using a lobby, and at the same time taking a player away from the coop pool. Since there's a lot less people playing the game as a duo, requiring private lobbies to have 2 people is an easy and efficient solution to push solo players into the coop pool and save costs on private lobbies.

100% worth it. Only problem is ogryn severely lacking in weapons. Zealot gets more fun and interesting melee weapons than ogryn. EVERY other class has more melee weapons and guns compared to ogryn by about 2-3x. Ogryn feels very limited. the game is FANTASTIC. Music - 10/10 - gonna buy the vinyl set. Gameplay - 10/10 - tough but INCREDIBLY rewarding towards skill. (Master the audio cues) Weapons - tons of variety (Except ogryn), TONS of ways to combine and mix weapon perks, weapon blessings, and character talents to create crazy synergy. Probably the best horde game ever made.

Excellent video! Top notch narration and commentary covering nearly all relevant aspects of the game, a true gamers video. I agree Darktide is the best action game out, with all the cool and unique systems such as the death/respawn/rescue/wounds mechanic. I think it shits on Space Marines 2 combat systems which has quicktime events and constantly having to see huge armored space marines spamming roll dodges is just straight up retarded. Can you imagine seeing a bunch of Ogryns dodge rolling everywhere. If you really want to feel like you are in the 40k world Darktide is the way to go, and this video explains why very well, gj!

The new update to the gear & crafting is great for newer players; it's basically pointless for any returning players that already has their gear mostly min/max through RNG. Since the actual playable content added is pretty small, I'd say it's not a good time to return for experienced players. Now that Fatshark has mostly fixed the gear/crafting, they really need to focus hard on adding much more content. One map every 6 or so months is extremely slow to keep experienced players engaged.

YES. The answer is yes, full stop. the combat in this game, when you learn to utilize blocks dodges and shoves properly, is somewhere in the top 10 for best in the world. and the mechanics arent hard to learn, so the skill floor is low while the ceiling is the sky. some of the edge of your seat moments in this game will never be topped or even reached by anything else you ever play. its as if you took the horde and replayable mechanics of left 4 dead and mixed it with the frame specific timing and spacing brutal combat of soulslike combat and then slapped your favorite progression/loadout system on top of it all. Darktide is incredible and the developers at fatshark are some of the most respectable game devs out there. ever since vermintide 1 theyve done nothing but listen to the community and improve with EVERY. SINGLE. RELEASE. and on top of ALL OF THAT. new content for the game is always free. they dont split the playerbase with purchases (they learned not to after vermintide 2 died because of it) and the only way you can give them extra money is to buy skins from the store that only exists as a "donate to the devs" system. 100/10 play it just to support fatshark because I guarantee youll love what theyve made in the past and will make in the future.

The combat loop has been the best of all time in the co-op genre since the beta, they have been consistently adding maps and the skill tree has been in for a long time now. The only thing that was jank was the crafting and even that was serviceable. The devs have done a tremendous job for those of us who actually like to play games instead of whinge over min-maxing stat systems

@TLPWRlifter
@TLPWRlifter 9 күн бұрын
@@berengerchristy6256 Yes they have. The game shipped with 13 maps now there's nearly double that amount now (If I'm not mistaken I think there's 24 after rolling steel was added) and the quality of the maps being released continue to get better and/or more diverse. That's not even including all of the mission modifiers that dramatically change how each of those maps plays. I think most people just bought into the hate for darktide because it launched with performance issues(that luckily didn't impact my low-mid tier rig.) The gameplay has always been best in class, the stability has been solid for ages and the skill tree that added a ridiculous amount of build variety came out over a year ago. Oh yeah and on top of that the game launched at $40 which is ridiculously pro-consumer.

I got it last year on Xbox and was enjoying it until the Karnak update, after that update the game randomly crashes fairly frequently, every 3rd or 4th match it'll crash. Stopped playing the game for a few months because of it, came back to it last week and literally the second match i played i crashed, the match after was fine but the match after that it crashed and crashed again after reconnecting. I even reinstalled the game and cleared the game cache and it didn't make any difference. I'm not even sure what causes it to crash, it randomly happens regardless of what's happening on screen, horde or no horde.

I just bought the game specifically because of the update. I love it, but it's not perfect. Here are some nitpicks I have: Booting up the game takes FOREVER. There are no tool tips to explain what terms like Finesse or Stopping Power mean. Missions end kind of abruptly. There usually is a very brief cutscene and maybe a voice line. I can't put my finger on what it needs, exactly, but it feels underwhelming, currently. The game should probably have a more conventional level selection screen so you can choose what level you want to play. This isn't the worst thing in the world, but there's only one game mode. Left 4 Dead had tons of bonus game modes to keep things fresh for longer. It's cool that weapons have varying stats, but, since most of the them seem to have a max of about 80 for everything, that kind of ruins what could have been really awesome weapon variation (unless I'm misunderstanding how weapon stats work. I don't think it's explained in-game). Positives: Hitting enemies feels GOOD, in large part due to great sound design. Great weapon variety. Leveling up is fast. It doesn't feel like grinding. The tutorial is succinct and informative. Probably the best first-person melee combat I've ever seen, even better than more complicated systems, like Chivalry or Shadow Warrior.

On the topic of the launch of the game, and the premium cosmetics shop: noone really talks about Fatshark is owned by Tencent, and I would bet my 15 million ordo dockets on it Tencent pushed out the game in an unfinished state with the fomo cosmetic shop. I prefered the old, more simple way of selecting talents. i find the talents tree too much to comprehend with all the little 10% health or toughness etc etc. I also don't like how the enemies have been nerfed. Mutants and dogs are a piece of cake to dodge now. Bosses die way too fast because there's so many options to kill it with, grenades, thunder hammer, damage buffs, stuns, knock backs etc. The only enemies that are that much of a threat on there own are snipers and bombers, unless you're just overwhelmed by huge numbers of everything. Feels to me like they've had to cater to the casual players too much, as per usual. The combat is still good but diluted to make it a bit easier and just give you a power fantasy more than being hard.
