Should you buy Nintendo Switch Lite? The Switch Lite does somewhat appeal to me, but I rather like having the choice to either play in handheld or play on my TV. Admittedly, I play handheld more often than I play docked, but I still play docked...especially when I play Smash with my coworkers in the break room

I would get the lite I may get one too but I only smash on tv mode for the lan play and GameCube controller I got a monitor a week before smash came out mosty for that cause I have no tv in my room I play tv mode for the lan play and to play while it’s charging but I may get the lite just as a handheld and use my og one docked and my ps4 for tv mode only

Short answer - for HARDCORE HANDHELD GAMERS such as myself The current switch is a bit too wide and the detachable joycons makes it feel a bit clunky and uncomfortable The vita was too small that my fingers has to bend in an unwell manner But the switch lite... the switch lite revives the HANDHELD GAMERS

It's my favourite console of all time. You could use the vita as a controller for games on ps3 or ps4. It was revolutionary. Great console, bad launch. I wish the 1st party games weren't canceled in 2015.

I really like handheld consoles, but idk about this.. one good thing is that it makes it easier for them to do limited/special edition versions, like they did with the (New) 2DS. I honestly would've preferred a price cut on the regular Switch. Tho I can see why they made this Lite version, it's simplified and cheaper to manufacture, and it's more portable for those people that prefer handheld only. I really wish they kept TV output, but with that feature removed they were able to cut corners on the hardware cuz it won't ever need the power to upscale on the TV. Heck, I'm still happy with my Vita!

I still think if it on sale like $150 it will be the perfect price. The Lite version is the perfect version for worker/college student that want a smaller switch that doesn't pack much space in their bag. I'm kinda thinking on buying the Lite version if the Cloud integration is seamless within two different Switch devices that has the same account. I can just use the regular one at home Docked/Handheld. Once I need to go to work or hanging out with my friends or family I'll bring the Lite version that is smaller and more compact to play when there is free time.

Honestly, what I like most in the products I buy is versatility. The Switch can be both a handheld AND home console with a controller that can divide into two controllers. I do think it's cool that the Lite allows people to play a cheaper version of the Switch, but these missing features are a turn off for me, especially for when I have people over who want to play too. The somewhat longer battery life isn't too great either.

I grew up with the psvita and that was heavily for me being able to play Minecraft everywhere like if my mom was taking long in the store I’d just whip my psvita out to pass the time so when the switch came out being like a portable home console i was really happy being able to relive that time but the switch was too big like for me to fully enjoy the portability so I ended up just leaving it at home whenever I’d go to school so I’m pretty excited to be actually able to carry it around without it being a hassle I’m pretty happy with a smaller more portable switch

I could see them making a switch pro dock that is essentially where all the upgraded power comes from that can dock a lite or a regular. It will give owners of both products incentive to buy the new dock to push their games to steady 60fps and steady 1080p and things of that nature’s business wise I feel like that would make them the most money.

The biggest advantage the Lite has over the regular switch in my opinion are the fixed Joy-Cons. The Joycons are not a bad idea and using the joycon grip is actually much better than I imagined it when I first got my hands on it, I found that I actually quite liked it despite looking a bit...unorthodox. They're really far from uncomfortable. But I found that I really don't care much for the detachable Joy-Cons. While it is a neat concept to have them work individually as standalone controllers, they are far too small to play anything other than Mario Party for example (although it might work much better for small kids hands. I am a big man, with big hands). And I've never went to my friend and said "hey man, let's play some smash bros on this 6.2" display with teeny tiny controllers and look totally goofy while doing so in public!". It just doesn't happen. And after starting to play Onimusha Warlords HD on the Switch, it pointed out the biggest flaw of the left Joy-Con: The "D-Pad". Since it also is supposed to work as a normal Controller, the D-Pad is seperated into 4 individual buttons. This really didn't matter for things like Diablo, Doom or BotW since they aren't actually used for controlling yourself but Onimusha makes fairly extensive use of the D-Pad due to the tank controls and it is so frustrating to use, I never thought that would be a problem but now it is. I would honestly rather have the normal Switch with fixed Joy-Cons but pay 30€-40€ more on the intial purchase to get a Pro-Controller with it right away. I really only detach them in the Grip, as I haven't bought a Pro-Controller yet. And jeez Joy-Cons are expensive. I'd rather buy 2 pro controllers than 1 set of Joy-Cons just because they work that much better as a controller.

The save data for Pokémon games for switch are stored on the switch, not the cartridge. A friend gave me a copy of Let’s Go Eevee, and I started playing for a couple hours with his physical copy. Weeks later, I bought a digital copy of LGE and my save data was just how I left it. It wouldn’t make sense for GameFreak to do it any other way.

That’s not how it works I’m sure there’s extra hardware in the original Switch (like an audio/video management chip) that allows it to output to a television through the docking station. It’s probably missing from this version so nothing you do will make it "dock" to a tv.

Nintendo games secondhand value in Malaysia is still expensive too, original price for BOTW and Odyssey is around RM240 and people can still sell it for RM170 or RM190 (especially Zelda) two years later.

I fail to see why people are thinking 'oh well if the Switch Lite can't be connected to a TV and it has no dock, it's no good'? It's MEANT to be a handheld device for people that either don't want to cart around a normal Switch when they go somewhere, they don't like the Dock because they're afraid to scratch the screen or don't play in TV mode at all because of space constraints for the dock. I mean what were people realistically expecting? You know this going into it. The main focus and reason for the Nintendo Switch original should not have been JUST to be able to play it on a TV. That wasn't the whole point of it.

I think if they make a Switch Pro it should be TV only, so we have a handheld only, TV only and mixed console. People who want a handheld can get it, people who want a home console can have one, and people who want a mixed experience can either get a normal switch or both. A switch pro that is TV only could possibly even be a little cheaper than a normal switch, since they don’t have to worry about a battery or making everything work so well on a console so small.

The PSP and PS Vita do fit pockets somewhat alright, however you would carry it around in a bag pretty much anyway. I did the same back in the old days with my Gameboy. Not fitting in a pocket is only relevant when you pit a console against a smartphone that can play more games than ever before. However, I think dedicated handheld gaming probably isn't dead. Not because of smartphones at least. Also, the Switch Lite is NOT actually the same hardware. It literally doesn't have the performance to do the TV screen console gaming, which is why that feature is removed (apart from obviously making a difference between the two).

There are still a lot of people gaming ACNL on their 3DS/2DS system(s). A lot of people with multiple 3DS/2DS systems, exclusively for ACNL purposes. Just a FYI for ya! :) I'm pretty sure there will be quite a number of people continuing to use their 3DS/2DS, even after New Horizons is released. Yes, ACNL is *that* good a video game.

I never bought a console before because I would like to classify myself as a PC gamer. When I was young we were given pre-owned GBA and PSP FAT to play games with. I even used a VGBA emulator on my smart phone just to visit those childhood games (Pokemon and Harvest Moon BTN & FOMT). Now that I've seen the Switch lite, I really thought that this is the Switch for me because I usually play on my desktop PC and if ever I would want to play Nintendo games like The legend of Zelda BOTW and the remake of Harvest moon FOMT, I would want to play them on a handheld console while lying on the bed. I have work so having the Lite version would really fit my need. It is cheaper too and can last a bit longer since it is meant as a dedicated handheld device.

To me, the Switch lite feels like the 2DS something which was a good idea for others (well, the 2nd version at least) but absolutely not for me. The cutbacks are too severe for my preference. I'm probably in the minority but I use handheld mode the least of the 3 modes. When I can, I either play on TV or tabletop mode. And regarding a switch Pro, I don't think we'll see something like the PS4 Pro or XboneX because that would split the playerbase into 3 levels instead of 2. The cuts to the lite already means that there are compatibility issues for some games and the last thing nintendo want to do is add even more separation between its devices. We'll likely get a boost mode where performance and load times are probably improved but you won't get as big a leap as a pro console compared to base.

2-3h battery is the reason i didnt got a Switch yet, altough hyped for new Pokemon, Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem, ill just wait for a Swtich Pro
